Deeper.

Artjournal_weektworiskThis is really good for me. This something different. This expression. This possibility.

Just a bit about how I put this together. I started off using oil
pastels on canvas paper for the background. Using Golden Matte Medium
(per Claudine Hellmuth’s book, Collage Discovery Workshop), I adhered
the canvas to my book and then brushed another coat on top. This mixed
up the colors on the background – making it muddier than was my
intention, but I went with it.

Next I added on some Texture
Magic dimensional paint with a black “thing” – I have no idea what it
is called – that comes in the Making Memories distressing kit. It is
what created the ridges in the yellow dimensional paint.

Everything else is pretty much either rub-ons (from Foofala)
or scraps of paper collaged on with the matte medium. It makes such a
great surface to write on once it is dry. For the pieces of paper I
brushed the medium on first, let it dry, and then wrote on top. Worked
like a charm. The numbers going down the side is ribbon from Rachel.

My
thoughts on the topic of risk center around the theme of going deeper in a variety
of aspects in my life…taking risks to take things to the next level. Living more. Getting off auto-.jpglot. Allowing myself to let go. And to feel. And to be healthy.

Not to late to join in on the Art Journal Challenge if you are feeling so inclined. Maybe it would be a risk for you...maybe it is your time...

Also, someone asked the other day about what photo program I am using - that would be Photoshop 7. Photoshop CS2 is the latest edition of the professional image editing program. If you are looking for a good general program, check out Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.

Smiling about the black thing, totally something I would say. Very cool this new journey for you. Taking risks, attempting something that you are not expert at (talking about the collective you here, or maybe me in particular), being bold. I'm doing that more too. And it feels good. Scary, but good.

I just signed up for the art journal challenge yesterday. It took me awhile to take the plunge... been thinking about it for weeks, now. I'm working on "letting go" and "being free." Sound familiar?
    Love your creation. ;)

I have gone to the journal site a hundred times...I look at it, look at it, look at it again...my stomach starts to churn, palms get clammy, beads of sweat break out across my hormone-deprived forehead...a little voice says "click the damn button, you can do it! you know you want to!"...
Today is the day. I'm gonna go click...I think...well maybe

    Man, I feel you Stephanie.
Ali, your post about wandering and being on the edge of something and then this are so timely for me. I know I have been standing at a cross roads for some time and yet I just can't seem to choose the one less travelled by - yet I know that will make all the difference. Maybe, like Stephanie, today is the day...maybe.

I'm loving the direction you're pushing yourself in---I've recently perused 3 of Sabrina Ward Harrison's books, and also the Collage Discovery Workshop and a nifty Art Journal book so I too am challanging myself to play with new mediums. Can't afford the online journal challange, but with visual stimulation from you and other books I'm attempting my own art journal.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

Love what you did with the canvas and the pastels. Does the matte medium seal the pastels so that they don't bleed further into each other? I think the black thingie if I remember right is called a paint comb. I have used it once or twice - I mixed acrylic paint with some molding paste to make a textured background. What type of pen did you use to write? A regular Zig?
Love your reference to the idea of auto-pilot. I liken it to watching a reel of the film of life instead of being the one starring in it.
Rather than the next level - how about the idea of no ceiling? - I mean there are always infinite possibilities out there. I guess we just need to take the time to explore and reach out for them.
Thanks for your thoughts and the art.

This is awesome! Reminds me of things we used to do in my fine art classes in college... MAN! I miss being in art school. Maybe I'll pick up doing some collage/mixed medium-type things like this soon. I miss it. Thanks for the inspiration. :-)
