AEzine Challenge: Stamp Goodness
This week the challenge is to embrace that wonderful imperfection inherent in using stamps. Sound like a big challenge? It is. If you are like me, sometimes it has to be laid out right in front of you for it to have any impact.
Here's a little more direction: create a layout that uses at least three different stamps - one geometric, one text, and one organic (swirl, artsy, etc.). If you make a mistake, work with it or leave it. Chances are, no one will ever notice except you - everyone else will see it as a totally cool artsy use of stamps. Embrace that!
Here's what I came up with:
I also wanted to show a little step by step on how I created the stamp clusters.
1. Select a couple stamps to play with for this project. Lines are from Fontwerks. Priceless and "A fun time was had by all" are from River City Rubber Works. You Are Here (which I didn't end up using this time) is from Stampers Anonymous. Siwrls are from Autumn Leaves. "What Made You Laugh Today" (not used)and the circle "Notes from Today" are all from Catslife Press.
2. Grab a scrap piece of thick patterned paper from your scrap box and use a large square punch to create three areas for your stamping.
3. Place the stencil you made with the square punch down onto your cardstock. Play with creating clusters of color and stamps within the squares. Inks used here are all Colorbox Fluid Chalk Cat's Eye Queues (love how these are stacked on top of one another).
Looking forward to seeing your creations with stamps!
Ok, really genius idea make the square stamp stencil!

Stamps by Paper Studio (circle), Purple Onion (flourish, but a BG rub on is over it b/c it did not look great alone) and Cats Life Press (notebook lines).

Thanks for the great challenge! This is the first one I have had a chance to do. It was so much fun to just "play" and make mistakes (which I did make quite a few, but covered up or didn't worry about). And it was ok!!

Hi, Ali:
I love using stamps and yup, there are many times when I find myself creating a new element to cover up a glitch. I did a page with the banner I created for my newly created blog: I create...therefore I am. Tons of fun! Love, love, love your stuff. You are such an ispiration to me. I am an "Ali Wanna Be!"

I have done this before...Totally stumbled on by accident when an inked stamp fell onto my LO through a templatae. I thought
"well that's cool..." but it didn't look anything like yours.
Let me just say that it's hard to say which I envy more: your creativity or your HANDWRITING.
BTW, congrats on the win the other day. Although I am a sad Republican in NoVa, I think it's always good if the right person wins. So congrats to you and yours!

I have a slight fear of stamps, and therefore, don't buy many, but I used what I had to make this work! I actually really like how it turned out!

Ali,
This was the perfect challenge for me because I always shy away from stamps. The result doesn't really convince me 100%, but like you say:..It's OK!Thanks for the great ideas ALWAYS!

Thanks for posting the process photos. I'm hopeless with stamps, and I always appreciate new ideas for how to work with them so I don't get so frustrated!

I am one that needed this spelled out for me! I use stamps a lot, especially my alpha's, but I have never layered them this way! I love the square punch technique as an easy way to get the stamped images in line.
And what I especially love about your layout is the giant square that the whole thing makes with your journaling all around it. It's amazing how different minds think! Did you see that somewhere or come up with it yourself?

I had such fun playing with my stamps for this challenge...I simply don't do it enough!!
What's even more fun is I finally did the "life artist" layout that has been building up in my mind (complete with my Capture Life. Create Art shirt =) )
