AEzine Challenge: everyday beauty

Last week's AEzine featured four different challenges relating to everyday beauty. Go here (and scroll down) to read each challenge.

Also within the main text last week was a memory challenge:

As you go about this next week, be conscious
of activities that bring up memories. Grab a
notebook or set up a file on your computer
and start jotting them down. Go a bit deeper
to capture those moments that linger on the
fringe of your memories. Maybe you will
remember parts of yourself that you had lost
connection with, or pieces of your heart that
are willing to stand up and have their story
told.

Did anyone take up that challenge as well? Thoughts? Love to see what you came up with for any of the challenges.

I have an altered composition notebook (I bought 5 or 6 when they were 25 cents at Walmart). Anyway, I'm on my 3rd one. I divided it into sections. I have about 7 sections in this one. I have the general memory/things I want to scrap about section. One for quotes and title ideas. One for art ideas, or techniques I want to try. One for SB sketches and one for card sketches. Everthing I need for inspiration. It's amazing. My kids' favorite jokes. My grandparents ranch where I spent my summers (and played house with the neighbor and we had a baby Ewok). Everything I can think of. Sometimes I come to my computer and type up a bunch of journalling from my notebook, print it on nice white cardstock, and I have my journalling ready to go when I want to scrapbook. It's the best way- with the journalling first, rather than pictures or supplies starting me out. HTH!

I loved this challenge! I had some technical difficulties when I was making my page, but it turned out to be my favorite page page I've made in a long time:

I took up the challenge to scrap myself and why I am beautiful. At first I felt a bit awkward--how to describe myself as beautiful. But I had the photos that I had taken of myself and I loved them as they showed my personality. This helped me get over any awkwardness.
    Thanks for a great challenge.

    Hi Ali!
I did 2 of the 4 challenges. Thanks for the inspiration as I would never have thought of doing tyese type of layouts - especially with a layout about me calling myself "beautiful"!

I did the challenge on creating a layout listing things about myself that are beautiful. Here it is:

The NSD challenges prompted some photographing and blogging, which resulted in a couple layouts about things that were unfolding last week. The leaves and flowers were exploding in New England, so it was wonderful to be reminded to stop and admire spring as it was unfolding. Love your mom's peace blog by the way.

I didn't exactly do the beautiful me idea, but adapted the 1,2,3 concept.

I think everyday beauty starts every day with being real... especially being real with yourself. As the old saying goes, you can't genuinely love others till you love yourself. I'm a writer at heart. I write about my life. It's all for me.

so, I couldn't quite swing the "I am beautiful" page. But I took a step closer...this is my first layout about me. It wasn't as hard as I thought.

I started a notebook and one of the things that I jotted down was my daughter (she'll be 5 this Friday) asking me to tell her stories from when I was little as her bedtime stories. This started a while back, but your challenge made me take more note of it and the memories it has brought back. Now she knows some of the stories by heart and will request "the one about the time Auntie Heidi and Cousin Steve broke the pool and the whole backyard flooded." Now I have a mission to track down some photos that are reminiscent of some of these stories and do at least one layout about them. Going through all the stories she asks me to tell her I could do many, many layouts! Thank you Ali!!

Ali, I tried to combine the everday beauty challenge with memories that are brought back to me by the things I find in everyday beauty. I also incoporated the challenge of using a supply that i'm afraid to because it is so pretty, and I used the metal flower titles for that challenge. I hope im making sense. I had some technical difficulties and the page didn't turn out quite what I hoped for since I had four kids trying to help me too...but here is my blog spot in case you want to check it out. jackiedstone@typepad.com

Ali, thanks as always for your great challenges and inspiration. It's a really busy time for me with the school year winding down so I didn't have time to track but I spent time I did have (driving to and from work) thinking about memories I want to document and wrote them all down. I have to agree with another reader, it is also about being real. I took some time to self-reflect on life and have thought a lot about that list from Body and Soul you sent out last Friday. Trying to create more positive life memories for documenting, and that starts from looking inwards.

Hi Ali, I did the Beautiful Me challenge. My LO wasn't very original as I used your Fisk-A-teers design. I must say it wasn't an easy one.

Ali, I am studying teaching at the moment and feel like I am on a military schedule. I have been using the Azine as a reward after I complete the required amount o fstudy each week. But I don't have the spare time to devote to scrapping at the moment. I am going to a scrap weekend in August and intend to get stuck in then. Thankyou for inspiring me and making me work quicker through my uni work each week.

    Hi Ali,
I haven't had a chance to do any of the challenges except the one that involved remembering our childhood etc. Tonight while I was ironing and watching tv I had a strange realization - I want to be more like the little girl I was. And somehow I wonder if that is weird. But, she was ambitious, strong, smart, athletic, organized, kind, fun and full of love. I wonder if it's possible to bring all that back to my life now as a wife and stay-at-home-mom of twins. I'm certainly going to give it a try.
Thanks for making me really think about things and strive for better.

Loved this challenge! I'm making a circle journal about everyday beauty. This week I did the "I am beautiful" challenge. It's hanging in my scrapbook room (framed) just to remind me! Thanks for the great challenge!

PS. Just wanted to tell you about how I make sure I use my stash. I've been trying hard to use what I have and not buy all time. So every month I make my own "kit" I go through my stash and pick out stuff I think will challenge me, or that I love right now, or that I've been hoarding to use for the "perfect" layout. Then I use my "kit" for the projects I do that month. It's fun and I'm not feeling guilty anymore, because I'm actually using my stash.

    Hello, again!
My 2nd challenge (Finding beauty in Nature) is now complete! I did not think I could express 9 day trip Western beauty in one layout. Thanks, Ali. I love square punch!
