Thinking about this today...

Had a chance to read Rebecca's blog today and found this post from the end of May that really moved me. Be sure to read the comments too. Many of these thoughts have been on my heart lately. Both Rebecca's and the commenter's observations and suggestions made me grab my journal and jot down some really good life stuff.

Purpose and mindfulness and comfort.

I love the three basic, underlying themes you drew from all those comments. I loved that post too (enough to comment on it and not be the lurker than I seem to have slowly devolved into!) and think these may be my 3 little words as I get ready for an exciting move and major life change at the end of the summer. Words that are sometimes difficult to put into practice, sometimes elusive, sometimes confusing, but they are deeply happy words in my book.
If CKU Anaheim is in the convention center again, there is great sushi next door to the last gas station you'll see before you get to the hotel/convention center! (I stayed there for a conf a few years ago and it was fabulous, not to mention the only food within walking distance!)

Just read Rebecca's post and it was thought provoking. It is funny because Heidi had a post just the other day on the flip side of change.

Hi, Ali. Just wanna say that I love your blog and find inspiration often not only from your art but from your insights as well. The words from Rebecca were stirring. It prompted thought and led me to your post from Monday. About Creating ourselves. I think that in all things we create ourselves and our surroundings are a reflection of our insides (kinda). The constancy and change go hand in hand with who we are. I love the wreath in my entry that has been there forever. But I'm also loving the newly changed scrap area. I think the constants in our lives give us the security to embrace the changes. Just my take on the whole thing. Love the insights shared by all. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for the redirect to Rebecca's blog; incredible food for thought. I think about what defines my home as I read her post, but I also think about what this means for me as I learn about paper crafts (card making and scrapbooking). I come back to this interest after an eight year break and am overwhelmed at all the "must haves". I have felt that my work is not meant to share (too simple, not enought design, etc.) because I yearn and gain pleasure from the simpler time (no primas, no brads, no paint...just the challenge of creating form and shape with pictures and paper, color and design, memories and imagination). After reading her post, I smile and allow myself just to enjoy the process and be delighted with my simplistic work. It defines who I am.

Thanks for sharing that post, it really makes me think a lot about myself and my own life...
But still love changes... small ones that spice up my day-to-day life... moving stuff around my apartment, changing the color of my hair from time to time or even having it cut,...
    Thanks again from Spain!!

How incredible that I too have just had these thoughts! Actually, like Rebecca, I think them over and over again -- again, the familiar? What prompted my most recent thinking was that I finally printed Christmas pictures from this past Christmas. I have the same pictures every year! Why? Because the boys love wrestling on my mom's fancy sofa in the living room -- EVERY YEAR -- my son is now 21 and he'll still wrestle with the younger male cousins and my husband will sometimes get "jumped" -- I get that pic EVERY YEAR! How do I scrap the same photos each holiday and make them seem fresh? Should I be taking different photos? Why? This is what we enjoy -- year after year! It's a family tradition! --- Christmas wrestle on the fancy couch! We all sit in the same seats every year at my mom's house too, the youngest always hands out presents from under the tree -- whether he/she can read very well or not -- now the youngest is 11 and hates the task but grudgingly does it; we all know he loves it! Now when I scrap these same old boring photos from Christmas, I can write more -- about the traditions these same old boring photos represent. And I wish I could find the felt elf with jingle bells that my mom ALWAYS put on the door knob on the back door. It's gone now. Now she hires someone to decorate her tree in white and gold......
