Christmas Project #5 : Button Trees (in progress)

This fantastic idea comes from the very talented Tia Bennett. She created one for Two Peas - I simply printed out the photo + instructions and went to work. Click her name to get to the sample + how to.

One of the coolest things about this project is that Simon was interested in playing along. One of the first things we did was sort buttons. I had been storing them all together in a big jar and found it easier to work with for this project once they were sorted by color.

After awhile they looked like this:

Simon worked and worked (such a good motor skills exercise) and declared his tree finished. Love it:

I went with red, brown, cream, and a bit of green. Mine is still in progress (and I started a second one with clear buttons):

And the best thing to do after a big craft project:

Thanks for sharing all the great Christmas ideas. Love the button tree, and I'm adapting the paper mache box idea to create a display of shadow boxes/shelves in my dining room. Now, if only I got to the execution part!

What a gorgeous photo Ali-and I bet those opportunities are rare-I know they are in my home! How do you find the time for all your travelling, projects, housework! Like most of us I guess we just manage and make the time. And all our comments on starting Christmas early- I realised today-it's not that early-just six weeks to go!

This is a genius idea! And, I just happen to have this giant jar of buttons from my Grandma ... some of them just aren't quite right for clothing or sewing or scrapbooking projects (or they are only singles, not sets or pairs) but I think it would be wonderful to use them in a project like this! Sentimental & adorable at the same time :-)
    Best Wishes!
