December Daily : Day 11 + CKU Chicago

Merry Tuesday.

There have been a couple questions in the comments the last few days about how I set up this album in the beginning. Here's a look at my December 2007 Studio A column from Creating Keepsakes where the original was first shown:

Essentially I started out with the acrylic front and back cover (from D Reeves Design House) and then added in a bunch of different sized pages that I cut down (mostly thick transparencies from Hambly and Narratives and a Heidi Swapp clock) and envelopes. I numbered each from 1 through 25 using a combination of chipboard, stickers, and circle accents.

Here's my entry for today:

For today's entry I printed out a photo of Simon checking out his Thomas Christmas set and adhered it to the back of a lined card (which fits right into the envelope).

As I was figuring out what I wanted to put on the photo I was excited to see that Designer Digitals has Photoshop brushes from Art Warehouse - especially this Christmas one and this one. I also loved Katie Pertiet's Christmas postage stamps. Red circle number tags are from Every Jot And Tittle. Envelopes from Paper Source.

In other news...
Registration for CKU-Chicago starts tomorrow night at 8pm Eastern. Check out all the details here: CKU-Chicago. Look for a bunch of cool changes including three full days of classes, a meet & greet on Wednesday night, boxed lunches on Thursday, Friday, & Saturday, and all new album tracks/classes.

My new album track, Evolution, is based on an album concept presented in Life Artist on page 116-117. For this project you can choose to document your own story,  or that of a child, parent, spouse, friend, etc. - pretty much anyone you choose (even a group of people). My album tells the story of my family unit over three different time periods: 1970's, 1980's-90's, and today.

If you can't make it to Chicago, the class will also be offered at the other two CKU events: Houston or Provo.

I'm loving this album and wishing I had done one...This inspired me to create a 52 page album similar to be fill in 2008 & if I had a blog I could share it. Guess I need to get with the times. I also wish your album track classes were available outside of CKU...since I can't seem to make them, but sadly I understand why not.

    Hi Ali,
I'm a CKU virgin and I was lucky enough to get in on the registration and I will be taking your class in Chicago... I have a question though... I will be going alone, do lots of people go alon? and I will be driving home each day, does this present any problems? just don't want to feel like the "odd man out" or "woman" in this case...
    Thanks !!!

Love everything you do. Love the album, love Simon, LOVE seeing how much extra work you out into parenting. I have one like that too. My question...tell me more about the ceiling above the tree!!?? What a cool affect, is it paint or trim??? Can you show another more detailed picture? Thanks!

    Hey Ali~
Just received a cool link to print out a letter to the kids from Santa - with postage stamps as well - from AAA. Thought Simon might enjoy it too. http://www.aaasouth.com/newsletter/images/santa_letter.swf

Hi Ali, this is a bit unrelated, but ... I know you're trying to enjoy the season more than the STUFF this year (me too!) and I know you love movies, so I thought I'd mention ... Have you seen the "Arctic Tale" movie yet? It is a wonderful movie with a great message about global warming and how it affects the animals in the arctic (and all of us). It is rated G and it's very well done. It addresses issues of survival for the animals, but in a way that's not too scary or upsetting (there are a few sad parts, but they're not too bad on the kids). I laughed AND cried - my definition of a good movie. I watched it with my 3 and 5 year old boys and they loved it. I loved it too. Just thought you'd like to know. :)
    Happy holidays!
