Monday Layout.

Thisamazingplace

I've got a couple things on my mind this week as I create a layout a day.

The first is to try to incorporate at least one piece of paper per day from my collection of papers and junk that have come in the mail or I have picked up while out and about. Here's a peek at those in their glass planter:

Paper

The one I picked out for this page is a piece of vellum which came off a mailer from Oregon State University:

Amazing

"This amazing place" seemed a fitting title for a peek at what Simon is "into" these days.

In starting to create this page I browsed through my recent photos and came up with two that related to what he is into this month. I like the idea of picking a single word + coming up with content revolving around that theme. The journaling is simple: handwritten statements similar to what you would see in a list. For this sort of page I like to give myself enough room to write, but not too much that it becomes more than it needs to be.

When I am handwriting like I did above, I simply begin and keep coming up with statements about what Simon is into until I get to the end and then I stop. No pressure that I will forget something...if I do I can always do another page or add that memory into a different story.

This layout is a very simple design. Four, 4 inch x 4 inch squares. One for the title, two for photos, and the fourth is home to the journaling. I stitched around the outside to add some texture. There are lots of things I could have done along the bottom of the page (added stamping or patterned paper, or any number of embellishments) but I decided to be happy with it how it was and call it a night.

Into the page protector it goes & on to another layout tomorrow.

    Ali,
Could you tell me if your journaling is on a premade journaling card or did you make it? It appears to have dotted lines for you to write on. Thanks, I just love your work and blog.

Okay, Ali. I think I discovered that the journaling was done on the patterned paper! Thanks!

Such a simple, memorable page for Simon at this age. It states what's important to him, and that's what makes it so classic and simple. Perfect.

Love this simple, yet very eye-catching layout. Perfect for documenting those ever changing phases that kids go through. I'll have to try this, one page for each of my boys (ages 2 and 5).
Just one question: I also like to collect bits of this and that from the mail or wherever and incorporate them in to art journals or altered books, but for using it in a scrapbook layout do you spray it with that stuff to make it acid-free? Or don't you worry about it?
    Thanks!!!

    Ali,
How did the baby shower go? Was your SIL tickled with all her presents? Would love to see what was in your basket! And does your neice have a name yet?

Beautiful layout & concepts! I have a glass planter collecting dust in my garage, what a great idea you had for yours! I think I might use it for my paper scraps, I still never know what to do with those. My scrap space needs a makeover, big time! Yours is an inspiration, that is my next project. I liked Elizabeth Kartchners space in the new CK, too. Have fun today!

Perfect. Seems so 'easy' and real! I mean, no hours spent with lots of doo dads...
I have to do this also.. For 'May'. What happens at our place..
I also need a 'use this stuff' box! Like the active In-Box so things don't get forgotten (new goodies, old faves, etc.)
Thanks for a great kick start to the week...

I love the simpleness of this page. You have inspired me to create one today. Often I think I do not have time to make a page but if I were to try to get it simple I think I would get a lot more done. Enjoy your week!!

I have been cranking out layout after layout since I began reading your posts on words + photos! Each layout gets more inspiring as the weight of "needing to get photos scrapped" lifts. This process is liberating and fun - it's a paradox as I feel as though I'm getting more creative!

Simple and a nice snapshot of Simon right now. I like the graphic block design. Also, the idea of doing a layout a day this week. I may do the same - and try to keep the journaling just that - "everyday". Thanks!

Love it, Ali! And I love that you left the negative space at the bottom. Definitely doesn't need anything extra. I, too, have a 'found papers' file (some with scraps ripped from my art and architecture design schools pamphlets when I was applying to colleges...um...12 years ago...those definitely need to be used!)
Thanks for the inspiration! See you tomorrow ;o)

good job! I like that you didn't add any additional embellishment to the bottom. At times we as scrappers can get a little embelish CRAZY!
