Thursday Layout.

May08

[ supplies: cardstock: Bazzill; supplies from Jenni Bowlin: trendy journal cards; patterned paper; die cut mini cards; felt letter stickers: American Crafts; stamps from Fontwerks: "check this out", polka arrow (discontinued) ]

A sneak peek at the month of May. I love this kind of page - a look at each of our experiences separately but still together. For my journaling I simply opened up my calendar on the computer and looked back at what we have done so far this month. How cool would it be to do one simple page like this each month?

Often we think scrapbooking has to be so complicated; that we have to get all our stuff out in order to create because we think we need all that stuff. Grab some paper, adhesive, photos, and something to write with and get to work.

 The basics:

1. Trim photos to 2.5 inches x 4 inches (same size as the Jenni Bowlin cards).

2. Align photos & journaling cards across the page. Place the die cut cards along the edges last (trim off excess that goes over the side of the page).

3. Pick three sections to pop up on foam squares. I think giving a couple elements a bit of dimension is one of my favorite simply techniques right now. I popped up "may," "us," and "08."

4. Do a bit of stamping (C, S, and A for each of our initials) + handwrite your journaling + put it in a page protector + move on to the next story.

Dottedline

For those of you looking for Photoshop tutorials, here is a good one from One Little Word on creating photo strips. It is pretty much the same process as I go through in creating a photo gathering.

[ Look for a new weekend creative project tomorrow. ]

I love this. I'm really liking how simple your pages have been lately. It's a great reminder that we don't need all that other stuff to tell the story. The embellishments are fun sometimes, but it's always refreshing to get back to the basics. Thanks for sharing with us.

I love the simplicity of your page. I like that each person has their own journaling space.
This is the second year that I've been doing pages every month. I enjoy going back and looking through them to remember what we have done.

Ali you are so right! So often we get so overwhelmed with products, products, products, that we don't even know how to start or even what to begin with! Honestly it's all about the fundamentals! Paper, glue, paper and a pen! That is what it is all about. I think that is what i love most about your style. You are so about the moments and not about being trendy in the least! Your stories, heartfelt expression and sentiment are your embellishments! I love it. So simple. So beautiful.

    Ali,
I love doing a month review. In fact, a couple years ago I started my "year albums" as a way to help me feel "caught up" while scrapbooking and jot down the day-to-day memories without feeling overwhelmed. I just use an 8x8 or 8.5x8.5 size album and do a similar 4-page format for each month. You can go here and scroll down to see a sample:

Some of the inspiration for this idea came from different things that I had seen you and Becky Higgins do. Thanks for all the great ideas! :)

Love this simple page. Thanks for sharing. I am doing something very similar to this layout for one of my twin girl's book. I have not cut the pictures to be the same size as the journaling. Love the idea of the foam...I think I am going to use it.
    Thanks again!

Each month in our store we run a class for just this layout theme, we call it the Year in review workshop, and at the end of the year we all have one album filled with snapshots of our life over the last 12 months, there is a strong emphasis on the everyday things that we do, the people we love and inludes the downs as well as the Ups. Thanks for your sharing your layout - Ruth

I love this, for me simplicity is elegance; I find it difficult to add over and over accents and embellies; and there are so many who find my pages "nude" or unfinished, where is the mid - way ?

Love this layout!! I've got to order some of those JB cards! I have begun to add journaling to every page that calls for it and I always struggle with how to place it as part of my lo (I don't print from computer). The cards are great. I love how you used them to also add interest and set your title. The color is great. I don't take enough pictures during the month to do this. For a year - yeah! I'll have to start a file for that lo at the end of the year. :)
