A Cool Idea + CK Houston
Ami B had a clever idea for working with type cases that have skinny vertical spaces (similar to the one empty one I posted last Friday ). She printed the "B" onto cardstock and cut it to fit into the sections. I completely love the idea of doing this sort of thing in some of those spots and playing around with the idea of "pieces of a whole."
If you end up playing along with the weekend creative project I would love to see what you create.
Made it safe + sound to Houston yesterday for Creating Keepsakes University. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones as people come together to create and share their stories.
Have a great rest of the week + weekend! Be back on Monday.
I'm so excited -- I got a type case for free! Let me tell you the story ... A couple of weekends ago our neighborhood had a community garage sale. I wondered over to my neighbors and saw the type case with some odds 'n ends stuff in it. I remembered your creation from your book, but --- can you believe this --- I didn't buy it, and it was only $4!!! I was kicking myself for the next couple of weeks. And low and behold you have your Weekend Creative post and I'm really kicking myself. So, I bit the bullet and went over to my neighbors and asked if she still had it. She said "Oh that old thing. Yeah it is sitting in my pile for Good Will. You can have it." That was my lucky day!!! Now, I just need the motivation to get the hose off, clean it, and start getting to work!!! I can't wait. THANK YOU for the awesome inspiration.
Safe Travels. TriciaH.

gah! I just commented on the other post, but I was wondering if MiniCards would be the right size for this - they're 28x70mm - do you know what size those compartments are?
(You can get MiniCards from moo.com)

this has nothing to do with the typecases, which I think look incredibly awesome with the pictures and the big initial too. (I'm going to have to look for mine and get started!)
Just an article I saw this morning:

Hi, was searching on the internet and looking at the globe and mail and discovered this link and thought you might be interested. It's a program that helps autistic children navigate the internet by not only protecting them from objectional content but helping them make choices.

Hi -
I have a typecase and have wanted to do something different with it for a long time. It has been on my wall with trinkets that I have had forever. Last year I went to the Home D..... and got some of their free paint chips. They are the perfect size for the squares in my case and I could choose any color I wanted. It was so much fun to just fill random spaces with these chips, and then put things in front of them. You can see the trinkets better. Now I am going to find pictures of my kids (all grown & gone now) and others to put in some of the squares. Thanks for the idea!
By the way - Those paint chips make awesome bookmarks, and kids LOVE to play with them!

Tx Ali for your latest newsletter.
The longer I'm around, the more I think that creativity brings resilience, compassion & flexibility. Then, if you're lucky, you may even find yourself at peace!
Bottom-line: parents, are the most in need of creativity, it really makes the hardest job a lot easier.
yay Ali!!!!!

Fabulous timing with the typecases posts. I just inherited a typecase from one of my in-laws (she didn't know what to do with it)...I knew there was _something_ creative to do...thanks for the great ideas!

I went back to the antique store the next day after your post. Some one else around here reads your blog!

Ok, now I had to email my father (thank goodness he is an antiques dealer...lol) because one thing that Hawaii is gonna be short on is American antiques! LOL! I REALLY need one of those cases, for sure, so here's hoping that the he can find one (and not ask me what I am going to do with it ;) ). Thanks for the awesome ideas! :D

I have a typecase I got at a childrens' consignment store of all places. I was shopping for a gift for a baby shower! too cool.
Right now I'm just enjoying looking at it as I had some cases from my years in England that I ended up giving away. I hope the person/people who have them now are enjoying them.

I thought this looked like a cool project and wanted to try this. I just got back from my neighborhood antique mall and was incredibly lucky. In the first aisle I found one exactly like the one you completed but it was a little rough looking for $14.00. Down the aisle about 3 booths down I found one exactly like your empty second one for $25.00. How lucky is that, less than 5 min. in the store, a half an aisle and I found a treasure. I can't wait to get busy on this project. Thanks for the inspiration.

I just finished reading the Oprah home decorating magazine "O at Home" Summer 2008 edition and on pg. 54/55 there is a two page spread of someones inspiration wall at home that has SEASHELLS, SNAPSHOTS, MAGAZINE CLIPPINGS-with the seashells in a type case!! Pick the mag up your next trio to the market and check it out. I thought of you as soon as I turned to that page!! Have a great weekend!

The quote is fantastic. For the past 6 months I have been intrigued by the psychological/sociological ramifications of our "hobby". It is a phenomenon and it keeps on growing-crossing races, cultures, ages, gender, religions. I came up with the same idea-we don't scrap/craft to preserve our memories-we do it to preserve ourselves, our existence here on this planet. But-I'm still stymied by the "why". Maybe the larger our world gets, the smaller the importance of the individual becomes and the greater the need to shout I was here.
I don't know-it would take a more educated mind than mine to figure this out.
Love your blog!
