Three Things : Re-Use

Kco_2

1. Reusable packaging from K&Company in a line designed by Amy Butler called Lotus. On the back of each package (the photo above is the back) are these great little elements that can be used on projects (these products can be found currently at Michaels). K&Company also has a pretty cool thing going on with their Preserve Your Memories. Preserve Your Earth. campaign.

Ecobinder

2. I stopped in OfficeMax today to grab a couple of office binders and walked out with these Eco-Binders from TerraCycle. Here's the press release on that partnership. [ It doesn't look like they are available on the OfficeMax website yet. ]
Amazingly enough, when you are done with these binders you can send
them back to TerraCycle and they will recycle them all over again. I
could definitely see doing something crafty with these binders.

Erinzam

3. Itty Bitty Recycle Bin Book from etsy seller erinzam
: I continue to love when little bits of paper come together to create
something entirely new. These little books hold business card sized
pieces of paper (which would be perfect for lining up on a layout) and she has a bunch of these Itty Bitty Recycle Bin
books available in her shop. I love that the covers are old discarded
library books. Even cooler is that she posted the how-to for making
these on her blog (there are quite a few visual delights on her blog as well).

Wow, those are some really unique ideas! I especially like the recyclable binders because once the ones we have at work get dingy / dirty looking they just throw them away.
    Thanks!

Those are some great ideas! Thanks for the links, too! I'm not usually a K&Company fan, but this will make me reconsider for sure!

I think I might have to head over to Michaels today for those K&Co embellishments! What a great idea! More companies should do something creative with the packaging!

Shelley Burkett (on the design team at Scrap, Etc.) did a project in a class last year on re-using packing. I may have commented about this before; if so, forgive the repeat. She made a dry-erase/corkboard out of the plastic clamshell packaging for clear stamps - I can't remember whether it was KI stamps or Autumn Leaves. Ever since, I've looking at packaging with different eyes, but I haven't been as creative as she is.
I applaud K&Company for providing more bang for your buck as well as for their green efforts. The other companies as well. Thanks for sharing these, Ali. And I am the only one that immediately tried to think of a use for the Itty Bitty Recycle Bin Book? I bet not. It's TOO cute!

Wow, I love the recycled book idea...I made something with a similar concept not too long ago with all my little scrap pieces of paper...I have this thing about throwing little pieces of pp away. Can't do it...so I made a couple of these...

I kept one and listed the other. I use my scraps a lot more often now so it's a good thing...plus I like how it looks to use the pieces for journaling with the torn little tabs on the end.
    Sorry for rambling!

Oh my goodness Ali, I can't even take it sometimes! The amazing goodness of creative things that you put on your blog never ceases to amaze me. After spending an hour going through erinzam's etsy and blog, I've now spent another hour (or two, i've lost track at this point) reading about book binding and resisting every urge to buy books on it (which is kinda funny in itself...books....on bookbinding...HA!) and the tools to make my own! I see these purchases happening the very near future though, I'm absolutely fascinated that I could do some of this myself!
Thank you so much for sharing things that you find creative on your blog. My project list is ever growing! :)

PS~I also just started a little words + pictures project using the Bare Elements Paperboard Book Box. You can see the start of it here:

Ali, I just love your ideas - will try these for sure. Do you mind me asking, what do you search for when using Etsy - I love it but often get so overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things and know that I am missing so much. Hope you can help. Thanks.

Really cool post Ali! I would enjoy reading more of these ideas for "green" scrapping. I reuse a bunch of bits in my projects. I love to be inspired to take a shopping bag and create something new. I also create mini books out of old envelopes. Thanks for the links...AWESOME post.

Please pray for all those affected by flooding in Iowa. Especially Cedar Rapids and Vinton. Over 80 counties out of the 90 something have been declared diaster areas. My grandma lost her house that she has lived in for over 50 years. Thanks

Hi Ali -- I was just at Wal-Mart last night, and see that they were carrying products by K&Co. that are from recycled products. I instantly thought about a previous post you had about recycled products. It's great to see a scrapbooking company "going green" as well. Hopefully many others will follow, and we will be using recylced materials for our stories.

Love that new Amy Butler (KI) line so much. I have bought nearly every piece it over the past several weeks. I even wrote to Amy Butler to let her/them know much i love it! The Amy Butler (KI) clear stamps are the most used so far. The packaging is pretty great.
