December Daily : Day Six

December61

Today I am celebrating a great little tradition around here that Simon really loves: a Russian nesting doll. Here's the full view (just one page today):

December62

I started off with a 4x6 photo (includes a Holiday Title + Journal Photo Overlay added in Photoshop) that was printed here at home (for more information on working with digital overlays check out this link). I trimmed the page around the photo down to 6 inches x 9 inches because I knew I wanted the entire page to end up that size and I wanted that photo placed in the top right corner.

December63

I temporarily removed the circle #6 card (gently) and adhered the red felt piece on top of the printed photo (lining up the scalloped ribbon edge with the line on the overlay). I turned the entire thing over and trimmed off the excess red felt with a craft knife.

December64

I cut a piece of American Crafts patterned paper to size and adhered it in the bottom right corner. I added new foam squares to the back of the circle card and adhered it in place.

December66

I typed up and printed out my journaling onto white paper and cut into strips.

December67

Strips are adhered with Therm-O-Web's SuperTape.

December68

And here's a look at the before page:

I have really enjoyed making this project. It's been fun!!! It has forced me to look at my daily routine and think about the things I do that are taken for granted. Routine things that are important but we do automatically without thinking. Everyday I think about what is special that day and what I want to document.
I like the way you demonstrate your finished page and the before page in the same post. It's very helpful.
    Have a great day!!!!

It is so fun to come to your blog each day to see what you & your family have done and get inspired not just by your scrapbooking but by your photographs as well. I really like how you change things up and don't feel the need to stick with exactly what you had started off with your album. Its just great! Keep up the great work, I appreciate it.

I love this page! Okay, I've loved ALL of the pages, lol.
I like that you allowed yourself to fix the original design to meet your needs. It makes more visual sense for me to have the face card overlapping the different spaces like that in the final version.
I've been keeping track of what I'd do for each day if I were doing this project b/c I haven't been able to get to it yet. If I can do it at some point, I'll have what I need. If not, oh well.

I am so glad I found your blog and started this project. It is helping me to slow down and savor the moment this season. It also gave me the opportunity to do something special to commemorate our 25th anniversary.
I probably would not have even thought to have one of my daughters take our picture to put in my album. Before I 'met' you I might have thought I should/could do something, but I wouldn't have. Thanks Ali.

Ali--thanks for the detailed step-by-step instructions and photos of how you took the original page format and converted it to the final result. It really helped me to understand the transformation from 'before' to 'after'.

Cute page. I'll have to try and incorporate felt into my pages, too.
I laugh whenever I see those nesting dolls. My husband was terrified of them when he was little. There is some residual effects of that fear left, I think, because I always see him shudder at the thought of them. LOL! Good thing Simon is not scared of them :P

I'm having just so much fun with this project. It has coincided with me finally buying a copy of life artist and its changing the way i scrap, I love love love the whole process, even the mess on the kitchen bench as i create, coming back to it every so often for a couple of minutes or a couple of hours, thankfully I have a very understanding partner.

your photos of Simon are so fun.
I find it challenging somethings because we have a dog. Me, my hubby and our dog. He is our kid....but, it's still hard to capture some of the fun Christmas things that everyone else can photograph! but, I suppose that is what makes our lives so different from each other, right! I am having so much fun with this project either way, and appreciate your inspiration daily!
    Thanks again, Ali!

Having just finished Jessica Sprague's class 'Stories-in-Hand' I'm adding 'memories' that were sparked during the making of this album. I just use my Dymo to print it out. Quick and easy and not-to-be-forgotten.
    It's snowing... so pretty. Inspiring!

    this is a beautiful page.
I'm struggling today with a ton of events/photos from the weekend; striving edit/get to the core of things. the daily part is motivating me to push on and just get it done, rather than wait for tomorrow. that can be a good thing for me.
I'm so glad I'm doing this project and posting daily IS a huge motivator. Thank you, Ali.

I just wanted to thank you for being such an inspiration to me. Your day "5" page with the divided page protector really inspried me to play around with one that I had on hand. I've nevr worked with anything transparent, but I'm qickly learning how much fun it is! Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Ali, I just love the way that you are flexible in the pages you create; I love that you have a starting point for the page but are not afraid to alter the design to fit the photo you decide to use and the vision you have at that time.
I'm not doing a December album as I had planned this year (was going to use the Fa La La collection from MM) as I am recovering from surgery, but I think I might do the same thing at a different time of year...Maybe in May, for the end of school, or in August as we gear up again for school.
