December Daily : Days 23, 24, and 25

Decemberdaily_complete

So happy to be finishing this up. It’s a project that I definitely look forward to but man it is tough to finish up during those last few days leading up to Christmas.

In looking through the entire album for this year, one of the things I really love is that it is simple and the emphasis is really on the photos and the words. The more time goes by the more I really find that to be what I want to see most. Sometimes it is so easy to get swept up in all the extras (because there are so many cool things to use) but what I really care about are the pictures and the story.

I know that I talk about the simplicity of words and photos often, partly it is a reminder to myself and partly because I just get so excited about it.

Day Twenty-Three:

December231

And a close-up:

December232

Photos printed on photo paper with a bit of text in the middle.

And the backside:

December233

7gypsies Flocked Paper with a little bit of baker’s twine.

Day Twenty-Four:

December242

December251

I love this photo of Chris, his Dad, and Simon – probably my favorite of the season. Patterned paper is Love, Elsie from 2007. Foam stickers from American Crafts.

Day Twenty-Five:

A simple photo collage. I think I will also do a layout with photos from Christmas Day.

Thanks, Ali, for sharing your month and memories with us and also for reminding us that memories come from the pictures and the words – not from the latest embellishment. Even though I LOVE embellishments!
Best wishes for a wonderful 2009!

I’m so glad I participated this year. My goal was to put in something about Christmas every day, December 1-25. I wrote about my day, about past Christmases, anything that had to do with Christmas. I included photos and art when I had them. Making this book kept my Christmas spirit alive and energized throughout the season. Thank you for all your creative input. I’m considering an All About Me Daily as a countdown to my birthday in February.

    Hi Ali,
I’ve really enjoyed watching your December Daily grow before my eyes I’ll definitely have to try one next year.
I’m sure I’ve probably overlooked this somewhere along the way but I was wondering when your new baby is due?
I’m thinking 21st January, only cause that’s my DD’s birthday LOL

I just finished my album this weekend. I love it. It is full of different size pages, different textures, and the magic of the season. I can’t imagine going through the holidays again without capturing it all in an album like this. I’m already planning next year’s album!

Thanks Ali – loved participating this year – but trying to play catchup – we had 7 extra staying with us for the better part of the week – so house if almost empty of company, and hoping the new years weekend will give me the needed time to finish.
    Absolutely love it.
Thanks for sharing and helping along the way

Ali, I have absolutely LOVED doing this project. I hope you continue to do it every year. Yes, it’s hard to keep up during the crazy pace of the holidays, but oh, so rewarding when you make the effort. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

Love that Santa paper. I have that piece and the coordinating notebook style piece. I’m going to use those for my main Christmas scrapbook page in my son’s book. I’m a little behind in my daily album, but have the pictures on the camera ready to print. Almost there….I will get it done before 1.1.09 :)
I would love to see how the baby’s room is coming along….and the studio. What are your plans for the little one’s arrival? Less blogging? I know you will be doing less travels.

your book is wonderful. I really love the shaped pages.
I get what you mean about wanting to wrap it up. I love having done this, but now I just want to sequester myself upstairs with my photos and finish. That might be rude to my houseguests though ;)

I agree with everyone above – I looked forward to seeing your and everyone’s version.
My questions is the pages you had taken out, are you storing them for next year? How do you store them, grouped in a file?
    Thanks again.

Thank you Ali for introducing me to this type of Art Journal. I have so enjoyed the “rush” of it all. I will miss doing it.
So I may have to do some other mini type of thing this year. Even if it is just to record what art and knitting I do.
Now to wind handspun for socks.

Merry Christmas (we’re still in the Season) and Happy New Year, Ali! I’ve enjoyed reading your column in CK for years, but this year I’ve spent more time here on your blog and you’ve really changed the way I feel about scrapbooking. You’ve shown me how to let go of perfection, have fun telling my story, and to play with technique. Thank you for the gifts you share with all of us. Again, Happy New Year! -Heather

I just finished that book too…so depressing, but in a good way? Wally Lamb always makes his point, but not in a pretty way, lots to think about.. If you haven’t read I Know This Much Is True, put it on your list. It is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I think a bit better than the latest one…I did get a bit bored with the Quirk history stuff…
Hope you have a good new year:)

Your family Christmas looks amazing and the fact that Simon slept though a sheet change is amazing! Wow! I also love your Christmas album and am already collecting things so that I can do that this coming year!
I will finish my ‘Joy’ journal (my 2008 word) today! I can’t believe the year has flown by so quickly but I have a post from each day of the year and many pictures, news articles and other ‘momentos’ included in this journal.
Not sure if I’m going to have a word for 2009. Am planning to do a photo a day album and will probably include some words in that.
Happy, healthy 2009 to you and your expanding family!

I did this this year and am so happy i did… i posted a few pages online, but mostly i didnt, i gave myself freedom just to do, and if i made a mistake in my journaling i simply pasted something over it…. my 11 yo cut the pages for me and no one page looked like another, but now there is this record… i added recipes i discovered and tried and true ones… i added a list of songs that made it christmas…. every day had a photo, i am so in love with this little book. thanks
