Just a peek.

[ Edited : That great bird print was a gift from Carrie - she found it at The giraffe print is a 2009 calendar from a wonderful etsy shop called Story By Mia  ]

Just a little peek into what I have been working on in the baby's room (my old office). I am getting closer to being done organizing + moving things around and will post more photos soon.

And yes, she will have an "A" name.

As my due date draws near I've been doing a lot of thinking about how different things are in my life now compared to when Simon was born almost 7 years ago. At that point in my life scrapbooking had not even entered the picture. I was working as a graphic designer and didn't plan to work after Simon was born.

I knew nothing of what life was going to be like as a mama, nor the challenges we would face, nor the changes that would come, nor how much more fulfilling my life would be.

I have been comparing and contrasting the two pregnancies and they are different in so many ways. Being my second time around I am overall less anxious and more relaxed even though our lives are much crazier than in the past. This baby is head down; Simon was feet first. I was much sicker this time around in those first three months than with Simon. I feel like she moves a bunch more than he did. Simon came on his own at 37 weeks…will she be early too?

Here's to life. And to twists & turns and anticipation and changes and possibility and being open.

I am still working on compiliing the list of words for 2009. Look for them to be posted later today.

Isn’t the anticipation fun? I had many of the same feelings when I was pregnant with my second child.
Just curious, did you find a new place for your office?

very cute stuff…you have a ton of a’s to fill her room with, i’m sure! (and i just heard yesterday that orange is the “it” color of 2009 – ha!)
it is all so exciting. i’m sure that simon will be a wonderful big brother. i wish you a wonderful delivery and healthy baby. can’t wait to hear the news…happy new year.

Love the “peek” you gave us of the room. I wasn’t sure if I should try the word thing this year…I’ve followed your word “quest” in the past but wasn’t sure if it was for me. I’ve decided to give it a try. Mostly because I am trying to have more FAITH this year. Not just in the traditional religious way but faith that everything will work out the way it’s suppose to, faith that my children will be ok, faith that I am making the right decisions for my family and myself. You see, I am a worrier. I know everyone worries but my worrying has gotten pretty bad over the years…especially since I’ve been a mom and I need to relax and remember that there are so many things I can not control. I need to have FAITH that everything will happen as it should and most of all I need to take comfort in that FAITH and stop stressing myself out over things I can not control. So, here’s to 2009′s word…FAITH. I hope in some small way this helps me calm down and remember to enjoy life and stop worrying!

It’s funny. I had the same thing with my two pregnancies, boy first, girl second 5 years apart. She (Addie) is the total opposite as my son. I think how they sleep in the womb is how the sleep in the crib, she was always all over the crib and to this day all over the bed. We had to skip a twin bed in fear of her falling off. LOL.
Hope the rest of your pregnancy is well.
Are you going to start the announcements (so that you only have to put down the vitals down)and pre-address envelopes. I can’t wait to see her’s. Hope you share her’s and Simon’s. Fun to compare.

My pregnancies were different also, just my my girls are. I treasured the experiences so much and enjoyed havign the 5 1/2 year space between them. My favorite color has been orange forever and it’s nice to see the splash of vibrant warmth in a baby’s space. I’m sure your “design” of her room will be special. A, huh? ;) Thanks for the peek. I’ve had my hunches on your name choice. Now I can narrow my guesses. Tee hee. It’s fun to see all the bits, pieces & glimpses that you’ve chosen to share. I enjoy your blog so much. Have a delightful Friday!

I love the art- it’s perfect! I totally agree about pregnancy being so different the second time around. My second pregnancy was very stressful, but the birth was awesome. I was so much more relaxed and I would do it again in an instant. Happy New Year!

So I finally decided on my word: Dynamic
as I looked for a more clever word, this one kept coming back to me and I loved the definition because it so described what I want for this year.
Dynamic: full of energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of purpose and able both to get things going and to get things done; characterized by vigorous activity and producing or undergoing change and development; a driving or energizing force, especially one involved in a process of social or psychological change
Other words: energetic, lively, self motivated, vibrant, forceful, full of life, vigorous
    Goals for 2009
    •Get fit
    •Eat healthy
    •Make things happen
    •Live Big
    •Enjoy every the everyday
    •Live with grace/generosity of spirit
I ordered two pendants from Liz. One as my word and the other to honor my friend who passed away this year.
Thank you Ali and many blessings to you and your family on this next transition.

God blessed me with 4 very different and unique children. I’ve decided it doesn’t matter how many you have – they will all be their own little selves. Mine are almost all grown (youngest 17 and a senior) and I am already getting that panicky empty nest feeling. Enjoy them every moment – they grow up way too fast.

I don’t just have one word for the year… I am going to have a word a month to focus on… (maybe focus should be my word for the year…)
Here are my 12 words that I am going to Focus on this year… Grateful, Build, Celebrate, Favorite, Appreciate, Capture, Rejuvination, Adventure, Learn, Momentum, Organize, Be
I plan on creating artwork to go with each one, add to my blog, maybe a special scrapbook … not sure the possibilities are endless… I want to go start creating… thanks for the inspiration

Ali, how true that each pregnancy is different. I have three kids and each pregnancy, like each child, was very different. I wish you the best and will pray that all goes well with the delivery and that baby is healthy. Ali you are an inspiration and I thank you for sharing so much of yourself and your family. I can’t wait to see more the nursery and the baby. By the way, I think it would be cool to start a log of all the guesses for baby’s name. My guess is Ava. Happy New Year!

As a young widow of almost two years, I am ready once again to engage in life, to renew myself among its wonders…
I have an “A name” girl who’s about to graduate from college in May with a 4.0 and an amzing artistic streak-may your lil “A name” be as wonderful as ours!

Looking forward to hearing about your new baby girl…I am an “A” too, so can’t wait to see what you will name her.
Love your site, inspiration and the idea for the one little word…mine is REVITALIZE. For the most part I’m very happy with life, just want to put a little more “umph” into everything – activities we do as a family, meals I make, projects for work, working out at the gym, sprucing up the house, etc etc.
Thanks for everything and all the best with your family and for 2009!

What an exciting beginning to a fabulous New Year!!! I missed out on the ‘One Word’ post, trying to spend less time on the computer and more being productive. My word for 2009 is BELIEVE. After a 2 1/2 year divorce/custody court case; my daughter and I are starting anew.
I believe love and truth will show us the way
I believe in my self and the goodness of others
I believe in love for your family, friends, and faith.

This was a great post…so reflective. I am pregnant with #5 (our last) and I am always amazed at how different each pregnancy is. And every day I am in awe of how distinctly unique each of my children is–they are amazing little people with quirks all their own.
So many cute “A” names come to mind that I can’t wait to see what your little one will be called :) Congratulations again!

Love the bird print. My word is “perspective”. Every day I gain more growth living in a new place learning about the perspective of those folks here. Makes me turn around and look at my own perspective and those I left behind in Oregon. Blessings to you and your family at such an exciting time!

My son came @ 37 weeks as well. And Miss Meg waited until the middle of the 42nd week… Taking her slow sweet time. On her own term. And she’s just like that today. Happy Nesting Ali.
