Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

Well right now, I'm growing a baby, which considering what it took to get to this point is a pretty stinking awesome super power if you ask me. :)
I'm also known as the finder of all lost things in our house.

I'm a superhero Mum; I'm supermum. No, I'm not perfect at what I do but I love what I do. I juggle Mummy'ing, homemaking, scrapbooking, sewing, photography, wife'ing and (as my son calls it) therapizing (Physical therapist). Though the occasional ball drops, I put on a decent show!

Hmmm...I think getting all 4 kids out the door in the morning, 3 dogs and 2 cats fed, etc. could be my superpower? Actually, I like to think I know just when to call my friends that may need my help/encouragement. I love that! Awesome giveaway :)

my superhero powers may not mean much to most people, but to me it means my boys don't go to school and work all wrinkly! i love that my dad taught me how to fold t-shirts so they don't get a wrinkle up the back (crazy, i know!). just by holding from the bottom and folding back-to-back, it solves the problem! my other power, says my 10-year old son, is i give great hugs!
(i wouldn't share these powers, but i just fell in love with Andrea's necklace!

Ali--you're really making us work for this giveaway!?! In asking my kids what I am awesome at they replied "Everything" and when I pushed for specifics they gave me a long list which included one of my favorites "Snuggling". I know I am awesome at keeping the household running, helping my family to have what they need when they need it. Above and beyond that...hmmmm I'll have to really think about it.

    Hi Ali
I'm a super woman at organizing. I think every mom who runs a family is super organized. Running a household is like being the President of a small company!!
Loved your "yellow" layout yesterday--so fresh and happy.

My super power is, Super Crafter. I am even in the midst of making a cape to wear. (ok so its a challenge from my lss) Look at what we do, take paper, some ink and glue and capture a wonderful memory, or some paint and wood and we have art. I can tell you, I am not the only Super Crafter! There are many of us! Happy Day Super Crafters!

You're right, at first I don't consider I have a superpower but thinking about it... I'm quite a good listener. I love it when people share their thoughts even if it's about going through a difficult time/challenge. Sometimes I feel helpless coz I just don't know what to say... but in the end, all they need is just someone to listen and the funny thing is, they usually figure out something once they say it out loud. Guess talking about it gets the problem out there and they can step back and look at it from a different perspective. :-)

Hi Ali! I keep checking in everyday to see if maybe you've had your baby, yet...I'm due in 5 weeks so I have an extra keen eye on the subject!
Anyway, my superpower is that I can manage two energetic, strong willed toddlers, two not-so-obedient dogs, my soap making business, my enormous belly (see above), my messy house, getting a minimum of three meals on the table each day, keeping everyone {mostly} happy & healthy...and (here's the superpower part) not freaking out every moment of the day!

I love Andrea's jewelry and would love to win a beautiful piece of her art! My superpower is that I am rather crafty and thrifty. I can usually think of something quick to entertain the kids when we need to be somewhere they don't want to be like the grocery store or one of my OB appts.

I really enjoy her blog as well. She just has an energy about her that is so inspiring. I believe my superhero power is my ability to persevere. I take the challenges life has presented me and somehow I just keep going and going.

I love that necklace. My superpower--I'm a superb multi-tasker. I'm always doing three things at once it seems and I can handle it (unlike the men in my family).

I teach technical writing at the local university. It is a hard job. Students don't want to take the class I teach, until they get there.
I have realized that I am a good teacher. I love my job because I can use the creativity from the other aspects of my life in my everyday job.
I care about my students and try as hard as I can to ensure they are successful, even when it means extra work for me. I don't set unreal expectations for what they can accomplish, and I am explicit with them about my purpose for them and my mistakes. Bottom line is that I treat them like people, like adults.
Thank you for helping me remember this!

Last Friday my 1st grade son was part of a reading demonstration at the Texas State Board of Education's general meeting. He and 12 of his other classmates were the only school invited. They wore tuxedos, and all of them were super good. After the demonstration, the principal of his school told my husband privately that of all the kids in the school, she wanted the Board to hear my son. She said, "I don't know what you're doing at home, but whatever it is, keep doing it!" I felt so happy and proud -- I'm doing something right!
