Wednesday Sponsor Giveaways: Elise Blaha, ReVa, Studio Calico, & SheyB
One person will receive a spot in Elise Blaha's Get Crafty workshop.
Get
Crafty
is an online workshop led by Elise Blaha. Over two weeks, this class will explore
techniques on how to build mini books and layouts from the ground up.
We will break away from the traditional scrapbooking products and
design our own paper and embellishments. Each weekday, there will be a
lecture, a project, an idea to try that day and an idea to save for
future use. In addition, there will be photos, journaling prompts and
giveaways. Class starts on June 1st.
One person will receive the June kit from ReVa (click to see the full list of supplies). Read more about Rebecca on her personal blog here.
One person will receive the June Studio Calico kit called Soda Fountain.
One person will receive a camera strap and a lens bag in their choice of the fabric from *Shey*[B].

My advice--stay true to yourself. Scrap for yourself...do what makes you happy. Don't get caught up in thinking that you have to "keep up with the scrapping Jones'!"

My best advice for a new scrapbooker-don't try to do it all at once and most importantly, there is no such thing as BEING CAUGHT UP!

Oh wow! I could be the first poster? The early bird gets the worm? I would tell a first time scrapper, you do not need to scrap EVERY single picture and you need not scrap in order! If you can wrap your brain around that, it helps free you of all the getting behind that seems to happen.

Words that I still live by - if you like it, others will LOVE it! We are so critical of what we do (obsessing over our "mistakes" - awful word!) - step back and be excited about what you've put together!

my advice is that there is no "right way to scrapbook" whatever looks perfect to you is perfect for you.

something i wish someone had told me before i began scrapping?! organization is key! there are so many goodies and things that are neat, but unless you have a way to keep it all together and so that you know what you have and what you don't...you'll lose track. another key piece of advice. it may take awhile to find your style or technique, so keep trying new things.

My advice is don't worry about trends or competitive scrapping. Do what you want with the supplies you like and you will be happy. This is about sharing your memories and stories with your family and loved ones, not about competition.

My advice for a new scrapbooker is that use others for inspiration but don't get caught up in what others do too much. You have to find your own style and it takes work and bad layouts, it's not a perfect art, but it's about the memories, not the pages!

Great giveaways! The one thing I would tell a new scrapooker is "Be yourself. On your pages, be yourself. Don't try to copy someone else's style. Find inspiration from others, but create your own style. You'll enjoy the process and end results far more if it's truly yourself coming through the pages."

These are some AWESOME giveaways...I think that I would HAVE to finally buy my dream camera to go with that gorgeous strap. Seriously beautiful!
My advice would be to NOT hoard product! I have soooooooo much stuff that I wished that I had used when I "loved" it. It would have been not only fun to use at the time and mark who I was and what I liked at the time (I always date my LOs on the back so I know when and where I scrapped them, eg May 08 on retreat with sister) but it also wouldn't be bogging me down now as I purge A LOT of stuff. I would continue to keep a stock of the things that I really use but for now, it isn't the same stuff that I bought a ton of in 2005.

Don't be overwhelmed with paper choices. Sometimes less is more.

My advice: don't feel like you need to buy every single item you see. Start simple with cardstock, photos and words! Invest in a good paper trimmer and remember that nothing is perfect. In 100 years nobody is going to look at your layouts and say "I can't believe she didn't perfectly match that red in the photo to the paper" They are going to look at your layout and say "I am so glad my grandmother took the time to document her life"

My best advice is don't worry about keeping up or chronology. It's meant to be fun, so do what you feel like doing. Tell the stories you want to tell not the next ones in line.

Reading and learning everyday... all those pages that you visit bring us something to learn and improve our hobby, and cultivate an important word 'patience' is a beautiful way to walk in your life like scrapper =)

My advice? Think about what kinds of projects you are doing BEFORE you shop. Buy fewer themed things, more "classics," -- your supplies will go farther, and you might actually get closer to using them up!

Pictures and journaling are what make your page. They are the most important things and help you to tell your story for generations to come. Don't get caught up in all the product and techniques. Stay true to the events.

Don't buy everything you see. I don't care how cute it is or how sure you are that you'll use it "someday". Only buy products that you will use on layouts for the stories you want to tell right now. You'll be using stuff you love and on the flip side you won't have such a struggle to find the perfect storage system for all your stuff!

My advice for new scrapbookers is to start where you are! Don't feel like you have to go back and begin when your children were born. It's a lot more fun to start working with pictures that you took last week, than pictures that you took 5 years ago. If you start with old pictures, you will always feel like you are behind, so start where you are and enjoy!

Start BASIC !! Basic tools, basic paper and remember there is no wrong way. You don't have to spend 5 hours on a layout. Just tell your story if you get overwhelmed.

Don't find that you have to be prefect like all the layouts in the books and your friends. Just be yourself and dont stress out about it - the hobby is to enjoy. So just enjoy it.

My advice is that there is no right way to scrap. There is also no wrong way to scrap. As long as you are pairing pictures and memories you are on the right track. I would also tell her that what every she does with her pictures and memories is perfect.

I wish someone had told me not to go crazy buying supplies! To figure out what I needed/liked and then to make wise purchases! Sher B.

I would tell a new scrapper that you do not need to buy every product available. When it all comes down to it, all you need are your photos and words. I really wish someone would have told me this.

My best advice for new scrapbookers is that every page doesn't have to be perfect. Don't think too hard about it. In the end, it's not about the paper and the embellishments, it's about the photos, the story you want to tell and the memories. Spend more time making the memories rather than spending all of your time making perfect pages.
