We like to charge up all the kids battery powered cars, motorcycles and jeeps and let them drive all over the cul-de-sac while we watch them and barbeque for our dinner under the stars.

We plant giant sunflowers on the first day of summer (as soon as school lets out) and watch their amazing growth over the summer.

Sleeping in late is a big tradition. And the occasional ice cream from the ice cream man. Just hearing the jingle of his bells gets the family excited! Ridiculous really because you could buy 2 boxes of popsicles for the price of the 4 we buy from him. LOL!!

Summer means visits to the local farms for fresh fruit and vegetables. It is part of my Saturday morning routine, before the grocery (so I pack a cooler with ice packs). We eat fresh, real food, and help the local economy :)

4th of July parade. The kids decorate their bikes and ride down main street, just like I did when I was a kid. Fun!

My summer tradition is to celebrate the first day of summer: the solstice, no matter where I am. The longest day of the year was really great in Scotland, since it didn't get dark until 11 pm and the sun came up around 4. Also, I was in Hawaii on June 21, where the sun was almost directly overhead. I'll sometimes make a special dinner to eat outside. Just a little something to kick off the season.
