A Week In The Life Update

Week

One week. Seven days. Capturing daily life right now

I started doing a big project called A Week In The Life back in 2004.

Since then I have done it three more times and those four albums are some of my favorites of my whole collection (skipped 2005 for some reason). Three of them are 12x12, created for my class at Creating Keepsakes University, and the fourth (2008) is 8.5x11. A portion of the project was also featured in my book Life Artist.

2008 was done right around this time last year and many of your played along. I have heard from a few of you that you are doing it again and enjoying the process of having it be the same time each year. I love that!

It's not likely that I will document a week before the end of the year as my class goes through the end of December. Part of my Big Picture class will address some of the same things towards the end of class - but it won't be a whole week.

I hope to do another week in either January or February.

If you are interested in embarking on this project right now I put together a page that documents my process from last year with links to specific posts, products, etc.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

I just finished my second time doing this and I am so glad I did! I'm getting all the pictures developed now but it has been such a wonderful walk down memory lane to look at last year's album. Of course my kids have grown and changed so much but little things too, the dog I thought we'd always have was in last year's album and has since died, my closet pictures are fun because I've organized differently...little things.
Thanks for all of your inspiration!

Hi! Thanks for this response to my e-mail inquiry. I did find some great things here in the supplies section that will work. I put off starting until Sunday so I'm in good shape. I want to document this week as am on maternity leave and in interesting adjustment period, but would love to do it again in late winter or spring as I think we'll see lots of changes this year!

Hi Ali, I had so much fun with this project last year. Knowing it was just for a week made it seem a lot less stressful and it was so much fun! I did another week this past July and think doing one again in Jan/Feb will be fun in fact I'm looking forward to it!

I was just looking at my day/weekend in the life 5 X 5 digital pages from last year (couldn't commit to a week! :o) and thinking I should start again this year.
Here's my blog post and the photos from each page,

too funny! Just this morning I got out my notes/journaling about this project from Oct. last year. I haven't actually printed my photos or created a book yet but.... I have good intentions-all my memoribilia from that week AND all my notes. It was really fun to read detailed notes of an entire week. I was already planning to document next week...

    Ali,
I took this class with you in 2005 and loved it so much. I did the album again two years later and would never have imagined the changes in my life that are now documented. Thank you for mentoring us through this great project. I feel like I have done something that really documented a part of my life for my kids.

    Hi Ali,
Can you recommend a version of Adobe Photoshop that would be good for beginners? I'd love to use your 8 1/2 x 11 templates but I've never used Adobe. When looking on Adobe.com, I'm not sure which one I need for basic digital scrapbooking. Help!
    Thanks,
    Amy

Thanks for this post Ali! I can't wait to start on this project. Hubby got me a new camera for our anniversary so this sounds like a perfect way to give it a work out :) I'm also using an 8 1/2 x 11 American Crafts album....do you find that a week fills up the whole album, or could you fit in more than one week? I'm thinking about doing it seasonally.

I had made a note on my calendar to do this again this week. Have been enjoying gathering my info--can't wait to complete my pages and see what is different and what stayed the same from last year.

I did it last year, and was thinking it was about time to do it again. But I want to choose a different month, move it around a bit to keep things interesting.

Good question - I just looked at mine and I think you could probably fit 2 weeks in there. It might be a little crowded, but would work.

Thanks for the reminder. I journaled/shot photos for this project last year but never go them into an album. (Our home was actually broken into several days before I started the project, so it wasn't really a "typical" week, but one I'm glad I captured. The writing definitely helped the healing process and gave me perspective.)
Anyway, I going to go back and look though my writing from last year and wanted to thank you for the small projects that help capture moments in our lives...big and small.

I spent a fabulous day with family taking our annual fall photos in the mountains and then coming back home to rock out with Beatles Rockband. It's been a great day! Thanks for the chance to win such great products!
