Thankful : November 19

Afternoonsun

Today I am thankful for the afternoon sun that sometimes finds its way in through the window in my office.

I am thankful for the ability to change my attitude...even when it feels really difficult.

I am thankful for the gift of sight and the opportunity to take in the blessings around me everyday (those seem to help most when I need that attitude adjustment).

I'm reading the beautiful words of gratitude, but really I've coveting the lush mac setup! And then remembering to be thoughtful and grateful again :-D

Changing ones attitude is definitely something to be grateful for. My daughter goes to a YWCA sleep-away camp in the Summers and one of their values (or pillars) is ATTITUDE (the others are RESPECT, COMPASSION, HONESTY, and LOVE)During Mom's weekend when all the Mom's camp out with their daughters I bought a pair of earings from the camp store with P.A.C.E written on it for "possitive attitude changes everything". I needed the reminder that weekend as we slept out in tents in the pouring rain and thunder. I wear them a lot still and the reminder is often needed. It's amazing what a difference ones attitude makes!

    love this as well.
Thanks for the little nugget of goodness to take with me as I enter the holiday season (and an anniversary of some very painful experiences in the past). I think I will approach that date and this season totally different after reading your post yesterday and today than I had intended (and thought about approaching it on the treadmill at the gym today). THANK YOU ALI!
Blessings to the entire Edwards clan :)

Ali,I have really enjoyed these posts. Your post yesterday helps to calm my fraying nerves as once again my three year old sweet but terribly absentminded son once again made a HUGE mess just because he was not paying attention I wanted to scream, did cry alittle, but was reminded myself to be thankful because I have a little boy to mess things up! I just treasure reading your musings each day!

I especially loved your comment about being thankful for sight. Made me stop and think about all the beautiful things (scenery, people...) I get the privilege to look at every day. Thanks!

some days are hard like that, aren't they. May God bless you and give you every bit of strength you need for the days the adjustment is necessary! Hugs for your two sweeties, tough moments and all.

Bonjour Ali. I am also fighting hard to change my attitude on a daily basis. I am not successful all the time, but I am working on it. At least now, I realize that I have the choice of changing my attitude. I do not recall who said that but this is my little mantra these days: "If you don't like a situation, change it. If you can't, change your attitude, don't complain."
Well, yes, I admit I am the complaining type. Silly that we want the other to think we are miserable. Not sure what we gain from this...
Anyway, may the Sun light make your day brighter. Une excellente journee pour toi et ta petite famille et un grand merci pour toute l'inspiration que tu nous offres.

I have a big front bay window that shines beautiful bright sun in the afternoon. I look forward everyday to sitting in the warmth of that sun during the cold winter days.
Thanks Ali for making us all stop and think about things to be grateful for. We can all loose perspective in lifes hussle.

Isn't a bit of afternoon sunshine just the BEST? I love that, too.
Wise words about the attitude thing. We talk with our children about cultivating a "happy heart"...every once in a while I stop and realize that my own heart really needs an adjustment and I need to heed my own words. My prayer is that the Lord would open my eyes when I have a need in that area so that at least I'm self-aware & can begin the adjustment!
    happy weekend,
    abbie

I love the sight of striped sun coming into the house...we're on the same wavelength as I just blogged about it yesterday in my sewing room! You're right about changing the attitude...I so often have to take a time out for myself, pray, recenter, breathe, and try again. Thanks for the inspiration today.

I am just loving your gratitude journal. I was JUST talking to my dad about humans unique ability to change our own reality and what a wonderful gift that is. He is going through a difficult time and is still very positive. I was giving him an example about how I have been applying for a full time position since mid 2008 and only recently found out that the online service I have been using has been holding my revised resumes in digital purgatory. I was so mad it made me nauseous. Then I decided Hey! This means I will probably get an interview soon. Now that they will get my last 3 years of employment history. lemons to lemonade baby.

I came across your post at just the right moment yesterday - at a point when I was having a particularly rough day and almost ready to break down into tears. Your post was uplifting and sparked a similar blog post of my own. I was able to give myself a much needed attitude adjustment and managed to enjoy the evening. Thanks so much for your touching honesty.
