December Daily 2009 : Day 14

DAY FOURTEEN

14_DD_1

SUPPLIES : Tim Holtz Seasonal Grungeboard Tree & Letter E; Claudine Hellmuth Studio Dash of Red paint; Jenni Bowlin Journal Circle (trimmed to fit in pocket); Teresa Collins Red Ruler Transparency; UTEE; Paper Source Santa Tag; Felt Snowflake is an older product from K&Company

Things have been pretty mellow around here this past week - not a lot happening besides the regular stuff of life: work, school, etc. December 14th was Monday and I felt like playing around a bit with some grungeboard, paint, and my heat gun.

I painted a couple coats of paint onto the tree and the letter E. When it was dry I stamped this foam dot stamp (an old stamp not manufactured anymore) into Versamark and sprinkled the Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) over the top. This is what it looks like before using the heat-gun to melt the UTEE.

After using heating the UTEE you get this great clear pattern:

For the letter E I skipped the stamp and just covered the letter with UTEE and heated it up. I stapled the E to the tree and used a bit of adhesive to stick it to the ruler transparency.

Here's the page opposite Day 14 (the back of Day 13). Flocked pattern paper from Art Warehouse. Chipboard piece from K&Company.

I've never used a heat gun, the UTEE, or done any type of heat embossing. I am going to venture into that a little in the New Year, using my Hobby Lobby discount coupons! Regarding the paint, did you use that particular brand because it is thicker/thinner than regular craft paint? Does it matter when you use this technique what the consistency of the paint is? Also, do you prefer clear embossing powder or the colored powders? Just wonderin'!

i love it! you can make the most simple things look so beautiful-i so admire your talent!
seeing this page reminded me: i was wondering if you would mind showing us what you did with the back of day 2, since it was another pocket page. curious to see if you used more photos or patterned papers.

I love, love, love the clear UTEE Monika - it's pretty much the only one I use. The paint was just what I had here - it is thicker than other paints I have used but I don't think it really matters what you end up using (just use as many coats as you want to get the color you like best).

Hi Beth - still have not done anything with the back yet of day two. I may just end up leaving it as it is. Not sure yet :).

    Beautiful page, Ali.
Do you use matte or glossy photos or a combination of both?
    Merry Christmas!

I remember you saying in Yesterday & Today that you could see yourself starting to get more into embellishments because you have been spending so much time with words + photos in the class. It's fun to see those words in action! But I still like the photos in this layout the best : )

this inspired me that after the 10 batches of carmel corn I have to make tonight :O (baking exchange -- such a great idea but then you know how time flies in this season...!), I might play with my UTEE. I've had it for a while and never played. Seems like it's time!!!
    Thanks for the inspiration, Ali.
(And I'm not doing this year DD unless I do it in January -- I've been keeping notes -- but I am actually doing a December Daily from last year (2008). Long story on its derailment but it's more than legit so part of my healing process is completing 2008's Dec Daily.

Hello! Just a tip about the "no longer manufactured stamp".....the same dotted pattern can be made with a lego sheet the same size.....I use them with paint all the time and it will most likely work with this process! Happy Holidays!
