365 : This Week In Photos & Words

AnnaLOW JANUARY 26 : Hello sweet, happy girl. You are a lover of life. Easy-going. You are just a few days shy of your first birthday. Almost-walking without any assistance (you actually ended up walking on your own on the 27th). Silly. Those blue eyes.

I am excited to watch life unfold for you.

JANUARY 28 : Thursday lunch. Turkey, avocado, and some cheese. Pineapples. Most days I try not to eat lunch at my computer. I go to the table. I spread out the paper...and read the news that I have already heard on NPR in the early AM.

JANUARY 29 : This morning I took three pairs of sweat pants (his pant of choice on no-school days) out of Simon's drawers because they are way past the point of being way too short.

We have this spot between our kitchen and dining room where we have been measuring him (and now Anna - who is also like a weed) since we moved in a few years back. He loves being measured. He loves seeing how tall he is getting. He often talks about being "as tall as Mom."

I think he thinks there will be a prize. I need to ask him what will happen when he is taller than me...

We do the same thing. It is next to our refrigerator. I am going to use that for today's Project Life photo. Thank you for the reminder! I love our little tick marks and seeing how much our kids have grown through the years (or weeks!)

love the stories! You've reminded me that I want to start measuring AJ in the doorway. When I was little, my father still lived in the house that he was born in, so I was measured in the doorway that he and his siblings had been measured in. I wish that house was still on our family and wonder how many layers of paint now cover our growth chart!

Anna is adorable...fabulous picture!! Congratulations to her on learning to walk -- watch out Ali, you are going to be running after her now! My almost 11 month old is trying to walk, I'm enjoying these crawling days when I can sort of keep him away from things....

The photo of little Anna is precious! I can't believe that she is almost one!
    Love the everyday photos, Ali.
I'm waiting for my Project life kit to arrive!! I'm in Canada so friend of mine is shipping it to me from US, I can't wait!!
I would like to use a corner punch to make curvy corners for my photos. Could you please recommend me a good one, Ali? I'm a hybrid/paper newbie :) Thank you so much!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

    Ali,
Just something to think about. We used to measure our kids in the doorframe. Then we moved and I cried serious tears that I could not take the door frame with me. Serious tears. When we moved into our new house, my husband bought a length of wood, just the standard 3 or 4 inches wide by one half inch thick by 6 feet long. He painted it white and then glued a soft measuring tape in the centre. We now have the piece of wood hanging in our doorframe and we measure the kids on the stick. If/when we move again, that stick is coming with me!
And yes, my wonderful husband copied down all of the measurements at our previous house and carefully marked them on the new stick. The left side markings are now for my son and the right side for my daughter.
And being the 'scrapbooker' that I am, I used stickers to decorate the stick in the spots where the kids grew so fast that there were spaces. Toy Story for our son and Ariel for our daughter.

What a cool way to document.
The Happiness Project is on my list for reading soon. Heard about it a couple days ago and knew I would have to check it out.

Love the pictures! Thanks for the book reviews-it's my month to make the selection for my book club and two of those three were on my "maybe" list. I think I'll do the Happiness Project.

The Book Thief - one of my Mum's favorites and funny enough she read it because I started my niece scrapbooking, who asked so many questions that she sent my Mum (and sister - her Mum) on the quest to find answers. In the journey they discovered so much about our family tree - some of whom are included in that book! Fascinating - telling the story is SOOOOO important. You are always inspiring that - whether you know it or not.
    Enjoy your weekend.

Oh my...it's so hard to believe that Anna is almost a year old...don't you just wish time would slow down...just a little :} I just saw "Food Rules" on Oprah and wanted to go see the movie "Eat This" when it was in the theaters...but my oldest son (now 30) went and he was so taken aback my it that he didn't eat any beef/chicken for over a month. He's a big meat eater so he tried to eat just fish and got tired of it...lol He needs a woman...real soon...he's a good catch and likes to cook...ha! I always tried to cook fresh for my kids when they were home and in school and now both boys eat just about everything and both are good cooks...I guess you could say I raised good husbands...my one daughter in-law loves me...and I do her. Have a great weekend Ali and tell Simon to not be in too much of a hurry to "grow taller than Mom"...cause he'll still be your baby forwever. Fondly, Roberta

My grandma did a doorway like yours where she measured all the grandkids. Now that we're all grown up and some of us have kids of their own, it's really cool to see. Simon and Anna will cherish those milestone markers just like we do!

Every single time I see Anna's sweet face...it makes me smile. You have two absolutely beautiful children.
I also have used a "doorway measure" for my great niece and great nephews for several years. They love to compare who is growing the fastest!

We use the spot between the kitchen and family room to do our measuring - and the kids, like Simon, love to see how much they've grown and how much further until they're as tall as Mommy (yes, I have a mark on the trim, too). I've never thought of taking a photo of it. Duh! Thanks for the inspiration, Ali!
