AE Review : Persnickety Prints
In the mail yesterday I received a series of digital layouts and prints I'd uploaded to Persnickety Prints last week. I decided to try out Persnickety after hearing positive feedback around the internet from others who had used their services.
The results were great. I love having these layouts printed and now safely tucked into my albums. I don't usually print 12x12 pages here at home (even though I have an over-sized HP Photosmart B8550 Inkjet Photo Printer
that I like and use daily both for photos and general office-related printing needs). I find that the professional prints just turn out better overall.
I printed one 12x12 photo (as the second page to this layout shown above). I love having one whole page as a part of a two-page spread. Such a nice way to include photos in the mix.
As you can see, my digital layouts go right into my 12x12 albums along with my traditional paper layouts.
On my desktop I have a file called "Print." In that file I add digital layouts as I complete them and then when I have a bunch in there I'll upload them to be printed. I usually include any special photos I want to have enlarged.
These two layouts can be seen in more detail here and here.
In addition to the digital pages I also ordered five foam mounted 8x10's that I'll be using for an upcoming home photo project.
UPLOAD + ORDER PROCESS : The upload and order process was simple and didn't take too long (I uploaded 9, 12x12 images and 5, 8x10 images). I thought it was cool that their size options included 8x8, 6x6, and 8.5x11 - all great for digitally printed projects.
CUSTOMER SERVICE : Excellent. They emailed me and let me know that one of my files had been uploaded low-resolution and I was able to email them the full-resolution version before printing.
I'd definitely order from Persnickety again in the future.
And in case you are wondering, I've always been happy using Scrapbookpictures.com (one of the reasons I love them is that they are based here in Oregon) and Shutterfly,
but I find it's worth checking out others as a means of comparison and it's
always nice to find companies with great customer service.
WANT MORE REVIEWS? : Here's a really great post at The Daily Digi that reviews a bunch of different companies.
My friend Jen Lee is hosting a Voice & Story Retreat this coming November in Colorado called Integrate In The Rockies. It may be just the thing you are needing in your life right now.
Thanks for the heads up. Hadn't heard of them yet. DO they do 12x12 pages too?

love the page in the third photo...how did you manage that text box with the different size lettering (just below the photo)? I'm still trying to find the right methodology for htat.

This has nothing to do with your posting but I just had to tell you. Your Simon is such a doll. It's unbelievable, as you can tell in all the pictures, how much he loves his baby sister Anna. You are so blessed and I know you know that but I just had to share my thoughts with you. After all, I am a Grandma and you know how important these little ones are to us. I also enjoyed your Mom's posting of Anna's visit with Grandma and Grandpa and ofcourse the dog.

I'm not sure if this is the right post to ask this question but I'll give it a shot.
I know nothing about digital scrapbooking. What would be a good place to start?

love this post. my BFF wants copies of the scrapbook pages that we are in together and this would be a brilliant way to accomplish what I thought would be a nightmare task. thanks!

I wish i could print for 1.99 here in Germany :( that's the reason why I scrap 12x12 but print 8x8. Your albums look so pretty, I do also mix digital, hybrid and traditional layouts in my albums :)

Totally! Some of my favorite special prints have come from there (wood mount). They are great!

A mousepad is really good analogy - it's like that on the back but it's not floppy or bendable at all.

I'll have to check out these foam mounted prints. I want to do a picture wall over our fireplace with some different dimensions and textures. Does the foam mount change the texture at all, or is it literally a photo placed on foam, if that makes sense? Ahh... I could just go look for myself. :) Thanks for sharing. I have some 12x12 layouts I've been dreading needing to get printed.

Persnickety Prints actually ships internationally. You can order the prints for $1.99 for 12x12s or $0.99 for 8x8s. Their flat-rate international shipping is $10. (I don't work for them, I just love their prints!)

Mine do have a slight texture to them, but I don't know if they HAVE to have the texture. You could email their customer service and find out. I love these prints!

Thank for the info. I couldn't find them on their pricing chart or find an example, so I'm glad you responded. :)

How are these printing companies compare cost-wise? And process time?

Hey Chris, We use a heat seal vacume press and to join the print directly to foam board. At the same time we laminate the photo and add a texture on top of the product. It adds a pebbley surface which also acts as a UV protectant for a more archival picture.

Their turn around time is usually under 24 hours. I have never had to wait more than three days for one of my orders.

I am in Australia and print at Persnickety all the time (12x12 and 8.5x11). I usually upload Sunday night and they arrive by mail about 9-10 days later. Great results - love them.
