December Daily 2010 | Day Eight

Welcome to Day Eight!

A day without photos for me. I did take some (including one I just took tonight of Simon in his Santa hat that I'll likely use tomorrow), but decided to use my journaling from this post. Behind the journaling I added one of the words from my Painted Christmas Words package. That story, along with a note Simon wrote me, is my Day Eight.

Here's a look at that first page:

In Photoshop I opened the Remember Template from the 6×8 December Daily Layered Template package, made the background white, drew a new text box with the Type tool and then copied and pasted my journaling from my Loving post. I made the "Loving" at the beginning of each sentence bold and red. I also changed the color of the frame to a light brown.

Next I opened the Joy.png file from my Painted Christmas Words package and enlarged it by dragging it from the corner (I work in Photoshop CS4 so I need to hold down the shift key while doing this to maintain the correct proportions). Edit/Fill to recolor and then I adjusted the opacity to about 20% by moving the slider at the top of the layers palette. I moved it down in the layer palette to just above the background.

Printed the whole thing on cardstock. I'm using the same Cream Puff cardstock from Bazzill throughout my album.

Along the edge I trimmed a tag from this set and added a little metal key. Here's a close-up look at that part of the page:

I used adhesive and just a bit of stitching along the bottom of the tag.

And page two:

Lately Simon's been reaching for my 12x12 white cardstock when he wants to write me a note (which usually takes up just a bit of the page). That was the case with this note. Since I couldn't fit it onto the page as he had written it (straight across the top of the 12x12) I decided to cut out each word and paste it back together.

After adhering I ran it through the sewing machine to create the lines.

I definitely could have left out the "th" that he crossed out, but I liked it.

Finished off the page with a strip of pattern paper, a couple little gold gems (I think these came from Micheal's - they were in a little strip and I trimmed off individual ones), and a 7gypsies label sticker with Simon's name and age.

Love your layout today! Thank you for the idea of using the templates for journaling as well! (it didn't occur to me even though I have been using these almost every day now... :-)
I also like the creative lines, makes me definitely want to bring out my sewing machine a lot more.
But most, I like your story. It makes me reflect a bit of my own DD project. That I need to take a step back to look at it, and not get too focused on certain things (always easier said than done). Thanks for the inspiration!

Just remembered I had a question regarding the recoloring on CS4, but I'll have to check it when I get back home after work.

I love that you included these thoughts in your journal. Such a neat idea to save Simon's note also. That's so sweet that he wrote it. We haven't watched any holiday movies yet, need to plan a movie night soon.

I'm loving this project so much, every day I keep going back to page one and reading and looking at all the pictures again. This is going to be a favorite and makes me wish my mom had one of these for me from my childhood. Thanks so much Ali.

I like writing on things, too. Some details which seems no important, but those we won't remember later. That's grateful !

I love the way you sewed the note in, really great effect. It's also really good to see a day without a photo, because there are those days when there isn't any great photos to use. In my mind I have a back-up photo to take if I'm without a story for the day; my kids hot water bottles. I bought them each a hot water bottle in November and sewed a cute cow print fleece cover for them. Everynight so far in December they have gone to bed with those hot water bottles to keep them warm.
Thanks for sharing your days Ali.

wow! day8! and I'm exactly where you were...no pictures! I made banana bread so maybe I'll still take a picture of that but I really like what you did with your "loving" journaling. I'm going to "borrow" the idea and make my day 8 super simple! Thanks Ali for showing us that no pictures is just fine! (My printer ink will thank me for a break!)

i don't remember seeing the answer to this -- Do you glue the pages together? I mean this journaled page, is it glued to yesterdays last page? And the one with Simon's writing, is it glued to the first page of day nine?? Don't know why I totally missed this.
