December Daily 2010 | Day One

WELCOME TO DECEMBER DAILY 2010.

Even with all the preparation leading up to today I still can't really believe we are underway again.

For the first page in this album, just like in 2009, I chose to write a bit about our Advent calendars. Simon and Anna were both super excited to find new Advent calendars on the table. This is one of the things I love seeing in my December Daily from year to year - the repetition of traditions.

With the addition of the cover page (free download offered yesterday - grab it here) I decided to include a new transparent page (the star page - you can see it in the before image at the bottom of this post - is still the first page in the album) using a silver script transparency from Hambly. The "1" on top of the transparency is from The Girl's Paperie.

Before printing the 6x8 photo page (2, 4x6 photos on a 6x8 canvas) I added a Christmas twill across the middle.

The second page features a piece of packaging I cut out from the Playmobil Advent Calendar. This one had extra packaging vs. the Lego package - I would have cut that one up too if I could!

Using a sheet of cardstock that was twice as tall as the Playmobile packaging I created a "lift-up" page to include more room for journaling by folding it in half and adhering the Playmobile packaging to the front.

Here's what it looked like after I added my journaling.

I stitched around the inside to give a bit more of a "home" for the words and stamped a simple title using the Basic Uppercase letter stamps from Hero Arts. The little image of the Lego Advent Calendar was printed from Lego.com.

Here's a look at the before image:

Almost forgot that December 1 had even come around, but I happened to go christmas wrapping paper shopping when I realised. I love wrapping our gifts, I think that I someimes go to more effort with the wrapping than picking the gift on the inside!

Question: What are your thoughts on taking photos, and keeping notes, and then going back and creating the album in January? Part of me likes the idea of creating the album day by day, but I worry about balance, and figuring out how to fill the slow days, if you know what I mean.

I think you can totally do that Maureen - it's really up to you, your schedule, etc. For me, I find that I'm most motivated to do it now (when I leave things to later they it tends to be WAY later). There's so many different ways this album can come together.

you may have addressed this before (sorry if you have) or this may end up to be a stupid question....but, do you ever add pics in your DD that have been taken by someone else, as in another family member?
My SIL sends me the most adorable photos of my nephews. Since, they live 1 1/2 hours away, I don't get to see them as much as I would like. I would love to add some of their photos in my DD. But, is that like...cheating?

A photo is a photo! Totally not cheating at all - I think it's totally fun to bring in different perspectives (either with words or photos) to your album!

We don't have many christmas plans until later this month, but I am finding that this has helped bring the holidays into our home earlier. Really fun!

Very cool. Trying to be relaxed. Find that this year I'm actually putting more of it together on each day. I printed out the journaling onto the overlays did the embellishing,etc... Everything but photos is there. Who knows if I'll keep it up, but feels better than having 10 -15 pages left to finish all at the end from an assembly perspective as happened last year...

    Hi, Ali & friends.
I am thrilled to be doing the DD this year, my first! Ali, I met you a few years back taking your Week in the Life Class I guess at a CKU, probably in Florida. I brought a little Hope boy for Simon..... you may remember. Anyway, I really am loving this album, I need this project this year. I made a Christmas album last year and took lots of pictures, but I never added the photo's. My sister had pancreatic & liver cancer and I knew it would be her last Christmas. I lost her in May. I will do that book one day, but for now I need this project to focus on today and not dwell on missing her so much.
Thanks so much for the inspiration. Bewtween your projects & taking a few Donna Downey classes (what a hoot!) I am covered in paint & paper scraps again!

I am so loving this project! Being my first time, it was alittle overwhelming (but life kept getting in the way! lol). I was finally able to work on day 1 and 2. Upload to flicker and get it on my blog. Whew. No matter, I am loving it and am excited to see what I come up with at the end of this :)

I had so much fun putting together my first page - I have also found that I really love the size of this project - I too stuck with the 6x8 and it's a great size and not too overwhelming to do each day. LOVE IT. Thanks for the inspiration!

I am loving your December Daily. I have question for you, what type of tab did you use for your "open" on the advent page? Is it just a typical tab from the office section?

    Thank you!
