December Daily 2010 | Day Ten

Welcome to Day Ten!

Today I'm going very simple with just a couple photos printed here at home and a small piece of art from one of Anna's paintings.

Page one:

A 6x8 photo of ornaments that Anna made drying on newspaper.

Page two:

A photo of one of the ornaments in the tree with a photo of Anna from today layered on top. I used the same opacity technique under the journaling and the photo of Anna as I did a couple days ago (draw a new white box and adjust the opacity of the layer down to around 20% or so - the opacity slider is at the top of the Layers pallette).

Here's a close up of the bottom:

The paper along the bottom was trimmed from one of Anna's recent paintings.

I love the art projects from Anna! I wish my little girl would try the finger paint...she seems to not like to get dirty. LOL. She does like to color with crayons and markers though.
I'm behind on my December Daily due to a few issues, but I hope to post some stuff this weekend. :) Happy December~!

A Mater artist in the works - great idea! I'm planning to do a snowflake making day with my 2 1/2 year old. And then put the decorations around the house and maybe even in her room! What a great way to make memories - finger painted ornaments. So inspiring!

I love this layout and the ornaments.

I have a question for you and your readers. My sister in law passed away this week after a long illness with cancer. I would like to include a recognition of this in our DD but just not sure how to without making it really stand out but still be respectful of her passing. Some thoughts I have had are including a photo of an angel ornament and writing about her and how much we miss her. I would love to hear any suggestions people may have.

Hope you're able to take some deep breaths this weekend Ali and have fun with your family. The other one, not us! Ditto the TYs for the opacity tip! Always something good to learn here.

Wondering... what kind of paint do you use with Anna?

I have an 18-month old little boy who LOVES pens and crayons right now. I had never considered paint until I saw Anna's beautiful work. The thought of it sounds messy, but SUPER FUN!

Love this layout, Ali! It's BEAUTIFUL... and I really like the photo of the ornaments drying on the newspaper. Did you happen to capture the date on the top of the newspaper, too?

Hi Ali - spent today working on my album. I purchased the 6x8 layered templates and can't get the photos to mask in. I'm using the ctrl G (with new layer selected). Has anyone else had trouble with the templates? I tried a few different ones and had same result. Any ideas I could do to check what is wrong?

    Thanks...

Anna's ornaments are great - and I love the paper strip on the bottom of the page, too. Great idea! My page today is also about ornaments - the ones my granddaughter is making for Christmas gifts. She's been working on them when she comes up to visit. We're almost ready to mail them! I'll definitely be posting a photo of the completely finished product...

    Dear Ali!

I really like your technique of white boxes with some text and photos layered on top of them... I really struggle to do it myself on PSE though!

May be you could help with some more details?

    1. How do you draw that white box (I found way around it but it very complicated, can't be right)

    2. How do you crop the photo to be the right size? (i.e. to fit exactly onto the white box)

    THANKS!!!

This is so awesome Ali, you are so so cool to have her paint at such a young age. These look so great and she will love them.

Question, did you have the circles already cut out for her and how did you get her to only do a little paint on each one and what kind of paper did you use.

I have finally caught up! I am loving how my album is coming together and the eclectic mix of memories it has of this month - I have everything from buying Christmas PJs to the 50th anniversary of my favourite soap on tv!! I'm hand writing my journaling which I NEVER do on my scrapbook pages for some unknown reason and the album feels totally me and very free. Thanks for giving us the inspiration!

    ali,

I just wanted to ask...your photos look amazing. Though I don't yet have a digital slr or anything like that, i really try to get the best I can from mine. (digital) I just wanted to ask, one day if you have time, if you please check out some of my photos on my blog and offer any tips or thoughts at all.....its a massive ask (you probably get thousands), but i thought id give it a go. (and anyone out there if they can)

Also, i get my photos printed up in BigW (store) I don't understand why some photos turn out really lovely (esp when printed in these 6x8) and look more than just amature photograghy while some are so pixalated or the out lines of everything are not clear/detailed even though i havent changed the zoom or anything like that? i dont know, i just get dissapointed sometimes when i picked up my photos. Sometimes its like the colour and darkness has been changed on me. Anyway, i hope you can share some thoughts on this.

    Thanks beke

I just love your pages Ali. We have no children left at home and our grandchildren live 3 hours away. I won't get to see them until Christmas but I'm still thrilled with taking photos and journaling MY December.
Thanks so much for sharing your time and talent!!

love this and I love how bright your photo's are! I have tried everything but mine look so dark! I shot all the pages to post by thee window with all the over head lights on - do you have a big bright white light over your table flooding it with light? Any tips would be greatful. I have a canon rebel slr 10 mega pixels.
