December Daily™ 2010 | Day Twenty-Four & Day Twenty-Five

Welcome to Day Twenty-Four and Day Twenty-Five!

I am really one of those people that is DONE with Christmas on Christmas Day. Even putting these last two pages together was a challenge for me as I'm just ready to move on to the next thing. I think, actually I know, that's a big reason why I put a lot of effort into keeping up throughout the month - I know that I am so over-it by December 26.

It's time to clean off my desk, put away the Christmas stuff, and get ready for One Little Word, Yesterday & Today, and I really want to work on 2010 Project Life before starting 2011.

Still left to do is the intro page, a closing page, and figure out if there's a different option other than the rings. I'll be back in a few days with those.

SALE NOTE : Designer Digitals currently has all Christmas products on sale for 30% off through January 1. This is a great time to stock up for next year or for working on/finishing up 2010. Click here to check out all my Christmas products.

DAY 24

DAY 25

Merry, merry Christmas morning. It already feels like a huge blur.

I love this shot because it's got a bit of everything: tree, kids, jammies, presents, lights, etc.

The ISO on my photos, especially for Christmas morning, was way, way to high. Trying to work with them in photoshop/aperture and not getting very far. Embracing, embracing, embracing...and just getting over it.

For page two I decided to just go with a photo of the family and journaling.

JOURNALING : We had a really nice, really simple Christmas here. It was filled with the voices of two kids: one age eight and one almost-two. They were both excited. Simon was full of anticipation and could not wait to go to bed on Christmas Eve. Chris and I stayed up way too late watching The Cove (all presents were wrapped) and then when we headed to bed around 1am in walks Simon saying, "Merry Christmas!" and wanting to know if Santa had visited yet? He crawled into bed with us and went back to sleep before waking at 5am ready to celebrate. Mommy + Daddy were tired (note to self: get in bed earlier next year). We were able to hold him off a bit longer and then we made our way downstairs after hearing Anna's wake-up yell of "Mama!!!" If Simon could have dived into the pile of presents I think he would have - he was seriously so, so excited. It was chaos and magic and delight and fun. Simon danced around the room after finding that Santa brought him the Lego Hogwarts Castle. Anna's favorite was a new baby doll. Chris' parents and Grandparents came over for dinner. They actually brought dinner over which was a very special treat for me! I really, really missed my parents, siblings and their families.

Ali, I agree! I'm so over Christmas! Usually I will leave my decorations up a while but I think I'm taking them down tonight! I really need to finish days 16-25 but I have my pictures and I'm ready to just stick, glue, write and be done too. Thank you so much for walking us through this project every year! With this being my first, I've learned so much for next years album already.

    Love your work!

I think because I live in the south (it was 87 degrees here last week) I'm not so ready to be done with my December Daily. I still have my stuff all out and as I'm celebrating my youngest's birthday today, I'm still taking pics and putting them in my album and will finish up on Dec. 31. But having said that, I'm REALLY excited about seeing your Project Life for both 2010 and 2011. I recieved it for Christmas and I'm so so so excited to start.

Thanks Ali, for all your hard work: sharing your life, your stories, your "embraceable moments"....all of it. You live a truly inspirational/simple/ordinary life. I love being able to read all about it.

    Happy New Year!!

I think I need to start taking a different approach to Christmas in the coming years. I'm really quite tired of...well, being so tired (as in physically & mentally exhausted) for Christmas.

I only mention it because it seems to go hand in hand with scrapping Christmas. I've wanted to do the December Dailies the last two years, but haven't...........because I didn't get things together early enough. And before I had my second kidlet, I was starting to get a handle on getting Christmas preparations done ahead of time, so that the month of December was so much more enjoyable (& less exhausting). I'd like to get back on that track. So, among many other goals & ideas for 2011, I want to find that path again and include gathering supplies and prepping a December Daily album & its pages waaaay ahead of time...like over the summer!

I so enjoy visiting and seeing how your pages evolve for you, Ali. And I'm looking forward to seeing what 2011 has in store for you and all of us! :>

Christmas was amazing this year--the whole month was full of exciting photo opportunities and I did get carried away. I don't usually count, but I did check to see how many photos I took from December 1 through December 25 (and I shouldn't have as it astounded even me). I am dealing with 1106 pictures taken! An addiction? Yes. I just wanted to save the moments. I got to day 15 in the December Daily, but bogged down with wanting to "record it all" and now I'm stuck! Too many pieces of life and stories to tell that I'm overwhelmed. I really really want to do them ALL, but how can I manage that? ooooooooooooooooo

    Ali,
Thanks for doing the DD. This is my first time, and definitely not my last, but it's been a huge learning experience. I'm on day 19 and have 'til the 31st to go and I'm a little burned out but 100% determined to finish! I'm loving what's done so far and I know my family will too (especially in years to come). Thank you so much -- you're a great inspiration, not just now, but throughout the year :)
Happy New Year to you and your lovely family!
P.S. I miss your articles in CK mag ---will you be writing for anyone else in the near future ---SE Maybe?

I love that picture of your husband and daughter Ali! What a great capture! How high was your ISO? I have a 5d as well, and I had mine at 4000 at one point Christmas Day (I hate flash and never use it) and my pictures were grainy, but I ran some noiseware and converted some of the really bad ones to b/w (I love grain on b/w pics) and they were useable. I get sad when my pictures don't come out the way they want them to (and when since I don't use flash that happens alot inside) but like you I try to just embrace it..it's still a memory no matter what. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

      Hi Ali,

Here is a link to the Imagenomic site for Noiseware, there is a free version if you want to just try it out. I had that for awhile but bought the $50 one because you can use that as a PS plug in, you can't use the free version directly with PS so it was a pain for me to import them all the time. I always lower it a little (even on default) because I don't want my pictures to be overly smooth, but it's saved quite a few pictures for me! I have a MAC and have to use it in 32 bit mode, but that's easy enough to do, there is a tutorial on switching it over on their site (not sure if you have a MAC but just in case you do..I didn't realize it at first and it was driving me crazy trying to figure out what was wrong). I hope if helps you!

I had my ISO at 800 all day on Christmas but we have a decent amount of light in our house---but on my Canon XSi, even ISO 800 has a decent amount of grain. Getting over it too...I'm also curious how high your ISO was. At least on the web, your photos all look great!

Really high - like over 4000. My camera goes to 6400.

I was debating when to wrap up, though the course of events decided it for me. My father had been a bit sick, and was formallu diagnosed with the flu on Dec. 24, which meant postponing family festivities. Dec. 25 has double significance for us. It's my mom's birthday too! So I'm going to end my book at the end of the month once we've finished celebrating.
