I spent this past weekend in Vegas with many of the design team members and designers who create products for Designer Digitals. It was a chance for us to come together and share laughter and stories and meet in person.
As you can imagine there were many cameras on hand and lots of talk about ISO, aperture, macro, night-shooting, photoshop, etc. It was awesome to see Vegas through the lens of each person’s camera.
Here’s a look at some of the things I captured over the weekend:
On Friday night a big group of us embarked on a photo-walk. It was cool to just walk around the strip with the intent of seeing it through the lens of my camera.
For me there was lots of looking up.
One of the highlights for me was getting a chance to get to know Jessica Hunt. She lives here locally and we’ve just not had the chance in the past to make time to get together.
I’m pretty sure this weekend sealed a new friendship.
I arrived home last night safe and sound, excited to be back with my family again.

welcome home
love these!! Glad your home safe and sound with the family.
AWESOME pictures Ali. Glad you had a nice weekend!
never been to vegas, but boy you make it look good. and that red coat. dang! perfect. glad you are tucked away back home safe and sound. happy monday!
beautiful pics, Ali! TFS!
those are great photos. it’s always fun to see others perspective through their lens.
thanks for sharing.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the pictures. It’s cool seeing a place I’ve been to a few times through the eyes of someone else.
glad you had such a great time, as your pictures show. thanks for sharing.
night time photos, such a challenge. Thanks
so fun to have a few “you-days”, even if they’re for work.
Love your view of Vegas. These are just so inspiring. Makes me want to go tomorrow.
Excellent photos. It was a very interesting perspective of Las Vegas which took into account more than just the money. Thanks for the experience.
I love so many of these photos. They seem so crip and clear. Do you mind sharing what kind of camera you took these with? My digital pics still don’t seem as good as my tried and true 35 mm camera, but maybe I am doing something wrong with digital.
p.s. woops, meant to say crisp not crip!
Beautifully composed photos. Intereting depth of field on the abstracts.
Glad you had a good time.
Beautiful photos Ali.
Excellent pics!
Never been to Vegas either. But loving your “view”. The sites and sounds and seeing it through your lens is awesome. Glad your home safely:)
I loved Vegas when I was there. AMAZING photo opportunities – it’s great to see yours.
Ohhh the patterns! So love it
I live in Las Vegas and I absolutely love seeing photos that people take while they’re here. Sometimes I forget all the cool potential of my own city.
Finding LIGHT – love it
I wish I had known you would be here! I’ve lived here for over 10 years and it’s always more fun when “newbies” are in town.
I had a blast! Love that we had to go to Vegas to finally get together….we’ll definitely have to make time to have some good local fun too
I used to think I was a pretty good photographer. Since becoming a blogger, I’ve realized there’s just so much more I want to find out and….I’m not quite at the level I’d like to be at.
I feel the exact same way
. There’s always more to learn…
so colorful! sounds like you had a wonderful time.
Wow! I live here and have never thought of doing anything like that. Makes this city and it’s surroundings look very cool!
Great photos. You’re always an inspiration with your particular “eye”. Love it.
Ahh…how nice to relive our weekend through your eyes Ali. Almost as enjoyable as actually spending time with you … but not quite! I’m still hearing your voice in my head and usually laughing at what it’s saying!
Las Vegas is my town.Glad you had fun here.
Awesome pix! My hubby and I are heading to Vegas next weekend for a long overdue anniversary weekend alone. After all your stunning pix, I am even more excited to go!
Ah, so that’s where you were! When I was in Vegas, I enjoyed “looking up” so much that I started a whole series on instagram of photos of all the beautiful chandeliers in the hotels and casinos. It’s always interesting to me how different the perspective can be when you look up.
Is that a winter coat you are wearing?! Next time I’m in Vegas I’m going to try and get some photos like yours. The first time, it was all about seeing everything but I’d love to get some really nice extreme close-ups!!
It is – it was cooler in the evening. Nice during the day but definitely not hot.
Love these close ups! Nice job! Thanks for sharring!
Loved your photos and am enjoying your blog.
I have always wanted to visit Las Vegas.
Great photos! I think I need a trip to warm Vegas about right now!
awesome look at vegas. We did the same when my inlaws visted, only we just took in the new City Center and Aria hotel. and it was my daughter and i taking the pictures mostly…
hi ali,
i love your photos, can i just say i love your perspective?! i’ve been following your blog, and i really do love all of what you have here… your photos are breathtaking! would you mind sharing some of the tips how you did those shots? i’ve been dabbling with my camera but nothing comes close with your shots! yours are just awesome! i would love to play with night shots and lights as well… good thing you have vegas there… but us here in asia, particularly in the philippines, there are just a few places to visit. thanks for sharing your passion ali… you are an inspiration!
Hi Anna – I wish I had some more specific tips for you other than just turn your camera to the sky. Actually, here’s something: one of the big things I try to do/keep in mind is look for “pieces of the whole.” You’ll notice here that most of these shots are off to the side (or to the top or bottom). When I look through the viewfinder I deliberately will move the subject to an edge – I especially love the shots with lots of “blank” space (also called white space).
thanks ali, that’s a wonderful insight… i will bear that in mind… that will help me improve my perspective. thanks so much ali!
What a beautiful perspective…
darn cute shoes, did they take the beatin’ with all of that walking?
Oh those shoes are great for walking! They are Earth brand: http://www.zappos.com/earth-solar-mahogany-premium-calf

Is it any surprise to you that you had a retreat weekend in a city known for it LIGHTs? You got a new friend out of it too. Glad you had a great time!
cute red jacket and jeans, Ali. would you be able to share where they came from?
thanks!
