On Tuesday | Creative Field Trip
On Tuesday I embarked on a creative field trip to Portland to visit my friends Kelly Rae and Andrea.
On Tuesday I took my camera along as I usually do, filled with the possibility of images and captures that would say all that I wanted them to say and maybe even more.
On Tuesday I was lucky.
On Tuesday I took just two photos. This one sums it all up for me. I was there. I was at that table and saw and felt and laughed and smiled and listened and was filled up with the amazing abundance of friendship.
On Tuesday I received the gift of companionship, of a leisurely breakfast, of trying on two rounds of clothes at Anthropologie, of animated talk between good friends about life and marriage and kids and babies and sickness and photos and work and best laid plans and ideas and possibilities.
On Tuesday I felt light.
Ali - great photo! Glad to hear to hear you are living in the moment and enjoying life as it goes by. Sometimes we need to really just stop and enjoy (rather than document). Glad you had one of those days - and thanks for the reminder that sometimes we have to just let go and be engaged in the day and the moment.

This makes me miss my special far-away friends. I was surprised to hear that a good friend of mine reads Kelly Rae's blog. She found her via a completely different route than me, but knew about the love bomb weekends. Small world.

And on Thursday- you spread that light to me. Thanks!

Love the photo! What a wonderful idea to make the time for a creative field trip. I know just the person I want to do this with - my mom! She has always been my creative and spiritual inspiration, and as a mom to three kids myself now, we haven't made the time lately to spend time being together like we did in previous years. Side note - she always signs her cards love, light, and laughter . . . thank you!

Gosh I SO get that. There is nothing in this world like best friends. They have got me through miles and miles of "stuff". So glad you had a nice day!!! Did you buy any new clothes?:) Hope so!!!

Such a great reminder. I am totally wrapping my life around not needing a photo to remember something. I want to remember it in my mind, not because I have a photo.
On another note, we're on day 4 of no school and I haven't left my neighborhood since church Sunday morning. Seeing you have a relaxing meal out with girlfriends...jealous!

Ooh, I wish there was an Anthropologie close enough to me! That would be put in a good mood anyday!

There is no better way to spread or feel light I think than when one is in the company of girlfriends :)
cheers,

Why can't we remember that it takes so little for this kind of refreshment and renewal??? Good for you Ali!

I love the colors in this photo!!! Soft and subtle but light and happy.
I've been developing a theory about what makes your photography so unique and full of life. You don't just use lines to create the sense of movement that is so prevalent in your photos, but you use entire planes to create that sense.
I'm so curious to know if that was a conscious choice when you started doing it, or if you just fell into that by putting the camera on the floors and tables, and whether you're aware of it now. ???
I want to try it out.

Great shot. Did you chose that point of focus, or did you just set the camera down and leave it to chance?
