Project Life | Week Thirty-Three

project life | week thirty-three

Welcome to Project Life | Week Thirty-Three.

A couple people wondered in the comments last week about if this was "it" for me this year for a scrapbook.

Project Life will be the bulk of my memory keeping for 2011.

In looking back over this year, I've done about 15 layouts so far in addition to keeping up to date with Project Life. Most of those layouts can be seen in my portfolio and a couple will be published in magazines in the coming months. Those layouts will all go in my 2011 album as will any additional ones I make about this year in the coming years.

To me the important thing is that stories are being told. The form that takes, whether it's in an traditional scrapbook, Project Life, journal, blog, etc is less important than simply getting it done. And I've loved the experience of working in this format.

My vote is for whatever inspires you to tell your stories and celebrate the life you're living right now.

Here's a look at Week Thirty-Five:

project life | week thirty-three

The two main things from this past week: the county fair and time at the beach.

project life | week thirty-three

More photos than anything else - a couple tags and a couple journal cards. Sometimes that's just what feels good.

project life | week thirty-three

I want to frame the original photobooth pictures so I included a scan here with just a bit of writing along the side to give them context.

project life | week thirty-three

Simon finished up his last camp for the summer - Shrek camp.

On this page I added photos from the beach and also one my Mom emailed me of her and my sister and niece in Paris. I haven't included photos of others much in this album but I like the idea of including a photo or two of things that are going on for my family. I think I'll like to look back and see, "oh, that happened when they were doing such and such."

As I finished up this week I made sure to take the album downstairs so it's back to sitting on the counter again. I've been missing getting some of those little things (conversations, sayings, observations) jotted down as I pass through the kitchen. Hoping to see more of those again in the coming weeks.

Project Life is a product created by Becky Higgins. It can be anything you want it to be. The pieces of the album kit (similar to the one I’m using) are available here. If you live outside the US check Becky’s site for more information on sources. View all my posts about Project Life here.

Ali, are you still using your new Epson printer to print your photos at home? I am using the small Epson 4x6 Dash to print my photos and its working well printing from home. Don't think I could stay up to date if I had to wait to have them printed.

I'm using the Epson Stylus Photo R2000 - it's a new printer and it's working great.

Thanks for continuing to share PL with us. I just love your photography. I have been very relaxed about the project this summer and I too have missed many observations and conversations but am ready to get back on track.

Great photos this week. Love the layouts. My kids and I were down in your neck of the woods visiting Crater Lake. What an amazing place. Took several hundred photos. Many of these from the boat tour.

This is wonderful. I love seeing those little things in my album as well. I am LOVING my AE stamps - and finding was to incorporate them. I love getting my hands dirty, if you will in the crafting of it all, but I do hope to work up to the digital things someday. I love the idea - just not sure I am there yet. Thank you for sharing your lovely handwriting in the stamps - I like my own - but honestly, yours adds a little panache. Thanks for inspiring yet again.

I love that your concept of memory keeping is so broad. There's no right way or wrong way to go about this. Blogging, journaling, Project Life, layouts, they're all different ways of going about the same thing. If photos were taken, things were written down, then I call it done. I get sad when people have very rigid thinking about memory keeping and if you only did this or only did that, then it's not "good enough". Any avenue of memory keeping that helps us to appreciate the life we have is GOOD enough.

I have been doing my Project Life the boring way--just a photo and journaling card per day--just so I knew I would stay on top of it. But you are inspiring me to try something different next year, to branch out and save some more stuff to include...love your ideas.

Love your project life shares...I'm inspired to do it too. Waiting for the fall line to be available, and January 1, 2012....I can't convince myself to not start at the beginning of a new year :)

I had asked last week if this was it for you this year. I am not doing Project Life, but am considering it. I assumed that this would satisfy the majority of your stories.

It really does - and I think it's pretty safe to say that I've printed more photos this year than in a long time.

    Hi Ali,
thanks for sharing. I am glad to hear that again for myself to remember it is the story of the memory that is so important. Since my Mom (also a Anna) passed 4 yrs ago it is so sweet to remember the things she said and the funny times we all had together. I still miss her daily but know that we have those stories and time spent together to remember. thanks for reminding me again I can never hear it enough Your always so open and sharing and I am grateful for that quality of you!
    blessings and hugs

    Ali,
I saw that you have said that PL encompasses most of your stories for the year. I am a traditional scrapbooker with a bit of hybrid involved, but I love PL because I feel like it really gets a great snap shot of my overall life, the little and the big. I LOVE this project, and I truly enjoy looking at yours, so I was wondering, are you planning on doing it again next year?

    Hi Ali,
I enjoy seeing your project life each week, you are very inspiring. I also loved seeing your week in the life. I liked that it had a consistent look throughout, and I liked that it was 8.5 x 11 inches in size. As much as I love the project life core kit, I am considering creating something that would fit in an 8.5 x 11 inch binder. The 12 x 12 inch format is great, and it offers a lot of options, but I do not have a lot of storage, and the format that your week in the life was in seemed a bit more streamlined (Not the documentation, the overall look.) What are your thoughts? Do you think I would be missing out on something if I went with the smaller format?

I've been playing catch up. I got behind & then got overwhelmed by it all. So I sat down on the weekend & looked at what was overwhelming me & it was getting the photos in order, I had at least a month to sort out & a few packets of photos. I went backwards week by week & sorted the photos, some weeks I didn't have many photos so I combined weeks & now have some two week spreads & it is ok! I used Facebook & my calendar to make notes about things I had forgotten & even though the journaling isn't in I feel up to date.

What a fun and family filled week to look back on. Those kites are amazing, I showed my hubby and son them and Sam asked when we could go there?? Too bad we are far away. I am missing some little things and funny words in my album lately too. Need to slow down a little and write more.

p.s. my favorite picture is the one of Anna and Simon on the left side on the ride together. The joy and happiness in their faces is priceless. Way to go on capturing the moment.

Hi Ali, I am busy doing the Project Life for my second year. I find it very hard this year, as it seems as if a lot of the things in our life hasn't changed to much. I also keep on thinking that I did take such a picture last year. Do you think you will do it for another year?

I really am inspired by your Project Life this year, would love to do one myself next year. Are you planning to do Project Life next year? I can see that having you show your weeks would be really beneficial in helping me keep up with it! I also see that the 2012 kit should be available in the UK - very excited about the possibilites.
