Project Life | Week Fifty

Welcome to Project Life | Week Fifty.

I've got a post in the works about my experience with Project Life this year. Hoping to share it in the next couple of weeks after Christmas.

Here's Week Fifty:

Left side:

Inserts:

Found this one in Simon's backpack. I've never seen him draw Lego guys before - a definite keeper.

And behind the snowman:

This was a homework chart Katie developed as a way to encourage Simon to have a better attitude during homework. Along with this chart she made a "happy face" card and a "frown face" card. When he would start making his super frustrated or complaining or other interesting facial distortions we'd flash the happy face card and it usually diffused the tension and helped him refocus back on the homework at hand.

And the second page:

Less photos this week as more of them found their way into my December Daily. Love that this is a place to capture all the other paper pieces.

I love the project life updates and am hoping to model my 2012 album like yours in that it's a glimpse of our week. But what really made my heart sing is the story about Katie and the happy face card. I'm a teacher with students on the spectrum and I can see my students responding to the visual just as Simon does. Way to go Simon!

I notice you use put a lot or random papers in your scrapbooks, which I love. But do you worry about them ruining your photos because they aren't acid free? What do you do to prevent that?

Good to know it isn't something I should worry to much about. I have tried the archival mist before but it leaves a strange coating and dulls the colors of the original paper, which I'm not a big fan of.

Hi Megan - it's not something I worry about (a personal decision I guess you could say). Especially in an album like this where most of the time the papers are not touching the photos (which is often the worry about the acid from the papers touching the photos). I figure some of it will last and some won't. You can purchase a spray called Archival Mist that it a de-acidification spray that says it will neutralize the acids that would cause a breakdown in the papers.

I think her and Audrey would have a blast together. Anna with her lipstick and Audrey with her nail polish and then they'd dance it up. One day, my friend!

Looking forward to your thoughts on Project Life. It's something I've been seriously thinking about the last couple months, but I worry whether we have enough going on/can I keep up/etc. I think I'm just looking for something to push me over the edge ;)

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hi Ali. I have a question, maybe something you can think about talking about in your Project Life overview post. It is NOT meant to be too personal or prying, generalities are fine. It sounds like you've faced some challenging times this year, I'm sorry to hear. Of course, life is like that, but it does seem like some years are rougher than others - for me, this past year has definitely presented some tough times, a sister being diagnosed with breast cancer, and various other challenges. I'm wondering if and how you choose to incorporate that into your Project Life specifically. I imagine that many times you choose to focus on the positive, which is a good thing; for me I also feel, though, that some of these things need acknowledgement at the very least, and I'm just wondering how you choose to do that, in a practical sense (hidden journaling perhaps, for example) and in a more general sense - how you decide what to include, etc. Thanks very much.

I just wanted to say that you're so stunningly beautiful Ali! I always think so but thought you might like a boost with the separation. You seem to be one of those people who are beautiful both inside and out. Would love to meet you one day to see if you are :P Take care.

I was thinking for quite some time about doing this in 2012. I love every single week, that you show - because it feels so much more "real" than the usual pages I normally do. I am somebody who is not good in incomplete projects or skipping things, so I was not sure, if I could handle this without feeling bad of not completing this or that.

But I want to dare: last week I bought myself something for christmas: a beautiful binder from "we r memory keepers" with 4x6 photo sleves (Beckys' kits will be available in Europe sometime throughout the year 2012, but they are not yet). And now I feel happy about getting started.

Ali, you are always such a big inspiration for me, thanks a million!

You can totally do it - keep it loose (vs. a photo a day) and just have fun sticking things in the pockets.

Love your project. I just found Project life and gave birth to my first baby girl on October 2011, and will do a first year of life Project Life album for her and see how that goes :)
On your first layout you have a mini polaroid (or at least it looks like a mini polaroid), can you tell me more about it?
    Thanks!
    Ursula.
