Project Life | Week Forty-Nine

Welcome to Project Life | Week Forty-Nine.

Did you see that Cobalt and Clementine, the new designs for Project Life, are now available? I'm actually going to get both and mix them together. Want to see what else I ordered for 2012? Click here.

I'm getting a little giddy about starting out again for 2012. I'll probably do that during the final week of this year.

This week, as I was putting the finishing touches on my week, I was thinking about how I like to just grab things that are on my desk to add to my album. Sometimes it's things I've added to other projects I've recently worked on and other times it's just stuff that I haven't put away yet.

I usually add all the embellishment type stuff when I bring my album up to my office on Mondays. Since my routine is to post on Tuesday, Monday has become the day that I finish off the past week - filling in holes, printing additional photos, maybe adding in some longer journaling sections, etc.

Here's a look at the left side of this week's spread:

I used washi tape on a photo for the first time (not sure where that tape came from - thinking a Studio Calico kit). I love that I could stick it on the photo and then do a bit of journaling on top.

Chipboard letters stapled on to the photos - their initial and their age. The letters I used for Simon are American Crafts Hardcover Silver. Anna's are Cosmo Cricket Hello Yellow.

It's pretty rare that I have any vertical images. I had a few this week that worked well so I was able to try out the new Photo Pocket Pages Design G. I definitely altered it some, removing all the pockets except the two vertical.

On my work table this week were a couple things I'd tried with my Silhouette recently too - the one above is a Merry banner. I included a video tutorial on working with my digital files for the Silhouette in a December Daily post here.

And the back side of the insert:

I just used my trimmer to cut off the part I didn't want and punched new holes with the Crop A Dile.

Page two:

One of the things that was on my desk that I keep meaning to use are the fabric day of the week tags from Ormolu. They worked great stapled right onto a few of the photos.

The top left pocket includes a couple things: my Minted receipt for our Christmas cards, a grocery list, and a Christmas Quote Strip that I cut out with the Silhouette and added black zing on top (thought I was going to use it as a December Daily embellishment).

I did the Turquoise kit in 2011 have learned so much through the year and loved watching my project evolve, loved that I learned Photoshop and started doing some hybrid! You have been very inspirational to me and I appreciate it very much!! Hoping to do your 'One Little Word' class in 2012, it is on my Christmas wish list!!

What a fun week Ali! I'm getting giddy as well. I asked my fiancé for the Project Life kit for Christmas so I could start in 2012, and I'm pretty sure he got it! In fact, a few minutes ago there was a FedEx man at the door. I've been instructed not to answer or look, lol. I'm feeling so creative lately, I love it! I've been scrapbooking for years, but this past year, my hobby has been neglected because this was my son's first year. I kinda wish I knew about Project Life last year because it would've been a perfect way to document it. Oh well, I still got to do two albums for him and with PL for next year, I'll get to document all the fun moments yet to come. :) Do you have any tips for me, for starting my first PL journey. Anything you wish you knew/did before you started. Anything you do to prepare before the year begins? Thank you so much for all that you do, Ali. My first DD and now, PL. I'm loving life! Thanks for all your inspiration!

      Hi Mallory,

Hope you don't mind if I give you a couple tips. First Congrats on getting started on this fun adventure of PL and on your first year with a baby.
I found that the PL community at BPS is filled with ideas and tips and lots of sharing of everything PL related. IT is free and everyone is soooo helpful and fun over there.
The main thing is to HAVE FUN AND NOT STRESS OVER THIS!! Becky really explains this all the time on her blog and so does Ali. It can be whatever you want it to be.
My first two years of PL I did strictly daily and didn't add any extras to the album. They are wonderful and fun but for this year 2011 I changed it up and made mine a weekly one like Ali's. This is more fun and less stress. I have added tons of extra Page protectors and lots of paper stuff and school papers and such to it. This is what I plan on doing again for 2012.
My other tip would be to set it up as much ahead of time since you have a busy little baby on your hands. Leaving it out where it's easy to add quick notes and papers and thoughts is also the best plan.
If you do have some ideas or see some from Ali's blog maybe write them down now to remember to add it in. I do this sometimes and try to remember certain fun ideas others have.
One thing a lot of parents do is take a picture of their babies on the same date each month to show how big they've gotten over the year. Also I hope to take a family photo once a month to put in ours this year.
Hope these ideas help you and really just have fun with it and enjoy the process. If you miss a few days or don't know what to include, no worries. Just write busy day or a uneventful day and leave it.
      Good luck!!

Ali, I love your Project Life posts and I've bought the Cobalt and I'm starting it in 2012 for the first time. I'm super excited! I was wondering what kind of pens you use to do the journaling, or if there were any you could recommend? Thanks for all the inspiration!

There's a few different ones I like - American Crafts Precision Pens, the Multiliner series from Copic, and my general favorite pen is a Uniball Vision Elite.

I just bought those Multiliner Copic's that Ali uses and I am so so so happy with them! Just love all the different tips! They are worth every penny! I have been using them on so many projects including my Christmas cards and writing out To: and From: tags for presents!

I am finishing my first ever PL; mine is way more basic than yours, Ali, and I am always impressed, inspired and motivated by your creativity and style. I will definitely be doing PL again in 2012 - what a satisfying and easy to keep up with project to do! Love love love being able to look back over the year in the two binders I have. Thanks for sharing - that's what got me hooked on this project, as well as creating a DD (I'm on my 3rd season of that)!! Happy holidays to you!

I have loved watching your PL evolve this year. It has made me very excited to try it again next year (I did P365 in 2009, but stopped halfway through)
Question: I know you mentioned your purchased CObalt & Clementine....are you also going to {or thinking about} use the digi versions avail. @ JS?

    Hi Ali,
I ordered both kits and got them yesterday and already started putting all the cards in and playing with them. My plan was to mix them together also. While shuffling thru them all though I had hard time mixing dark with such light colors so I am keeping them apart for now. One week will be Cobalt and the next Clementine and so on, this works better for me.
I will be looking forward to seeing yours mixed and sure it will look AMAZING. The one thing I loved was that the journal cards have lines on the back for extra writing, love this. I might even use the little days/date stickers this year too I thought. All the other ones are still sitting here unused, feels sad not using them again.

This was a great week again, love love seeing your pages and stories and little special touches thru the week. Love you recorded the little sayings and doings this week of them.
Thanks for always inspiring and motivating us.

do you remember where it came from? I absolutely love it! Do you just bring it out at christmas or is it an everyday decoration? just curious...

    Hi Ali,

I will be doing my first Project Life albums in 2012 (I'm going to involve my girls in the process of creating their first albums - we'll see if theirs will be weekly or monthly).

I typically print my photos out once a month or every two months, but I am thinking that it might bother me to not "see" the complete pages coming together. Do you have any idea on about how much the price difference is to buy equipment/supplies to print at home as you do vs. printing through other services? I was thinking that you do both, so I was wondering if it works out in the long run to print at home or if it is much more expensive. Thanks for your feedback!

    Hi Ali,

I'm thinking of doing Project Life in 2012 and as part of it I want to incorporate my Project 365 photos. Do you know if it is possible to buy a 7 pocket photo insert? I've seen 8s and 9s but not a 7.

    love following your blog.

Well, I too have received my PL in the mail -- first time -- I'm curious to see how it goes with "just" two old fogies around the house! (Well, technically DD lives here but with work schedules we don't see her all that much.) I "need" one of those counter top printers I think....

PS. Ali, I LOVE Simon's prayer and I love your pictures of Anna from the back; and I really love that pensive shot of Simon.
