Video Tutorial | Printing Two 3x4 Images On A 4x6
I've had some requests over the last couple of weeks for help with how to print 3x4 photos (specially for use in the smaller Project Life page protector pockets). I put together a quick video tutorial that walks you through the steps to put 2, 3x4 images on a 4x6 canvas in Photoshop Elements.
You could definitely adapt these steps to put more 3x4 photos onto a larger background canvas (such as an 8x10).

Thanks, I've been trying to figure out exactly that! Oh, and am I first? 13:10 here in South Africa.

I don't have PSE, so I'm pretty impressed with how user friendly it is. Loving those great smiles in the photos too!

Thank you SO much for taking the time to explain this! I am sure it's so simple, but I was so overwhelmed that even the simplest task seems hard at this point! thank you!!!

Your tutorials are always so clear and helpful. Thanks, too, for the newsletter in my inbox this morning. It was very timely, as I have two daily practices I hope to work on in 2012. One of them I've already begun, but the other has to wait until the end of the month after a two week visit with my new grandson.

Thanks Ali!! I have tried this before but never could get the photos to print at the correct size. Now thanks to you, it won't be a problem.

Thanks Ali! I have another question about printing. I do not print at home. I send out normally to Shutterfly. For Project Life, I have cropped some pictures to 8x8 and I had planned to have them developed at an online lab you had recommended goodness probably well over a year ago but when I went to their website this week they had gone out of business. If I have the 8x8's ptinted out at Shutterfly as an 8x10 will they be printed out with white surrounding them and then I can just cut that off? I know I am probably trying to make this more difficult then it is! Thanks for any help you can give me!
Sincerely,
Robin Greene
Thank you very much Jamie! Ali recommended about three different printing companies in the blog I am thinking of and I had forgotten about Persnickety. I will definitely try them. I could not think of any of the other names. I am finally printing my pictures for last years Project Life. I took almost a picture for everyday and journaled everything for the year so I am getting busy!
I don't know who Ali uses, but I print my 8X8s through Persnickety prints. I think she recommended them for printing in general. Anyway, there 8X8s are only $.99 each and the shipping in the U.S is a flat $5.00. Their quality is remarkable, in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Ali! I was wondering how you did that and now I can't wait to try it for myself.

Awesome. I was just wondering how to do this as I was going to bed last night. Perfect timing as this is my first week doing Project Life. Thank you!

Hi Ali,
Thanks for the tutorial! I created a template that I use for doing this that makes it super easy and quick, too. Am happy to share it with your readers if you like!
Thank you for all of your wonderful posts and for sharing your inspiration with us :)
I should probably also add that I print my photos slightly smaller than 3x4 because the journalling pockets aren't quite that large and I got frustrated cutting off too much of my photo.
Hi Karen and dawny dee,
I posted my template on 4shared, you should be able to click on the link and download it. I'm not a designer by any stretch so I hope the template works for you :)

Hi Chris, I am a new PSE user and to tell you the truth very frustrated one!so any kind of template that would help me create with more ease would be very welcomed. Thanks. Where would you post a link?
oh yes please. please share a link

This will be so helpful. Thank you for taking the time to explain. I just got Photoshop Elements for Christmas and have not tried using it yet.
A question - what brand/type printer do you use for pictures? Mine is an Epson Stylus NX420.
Thanks for your help!!
Sandie,
Here is the link to Ali's FAQs. I have referred back to it often, and one of the questions responds to various products/supplies that she uses, including the type of printer.

Thanks Ali! I use a free program called from photo utitlity called photo sheet. It is great for those of you who are not familiar with photoshop. Here is the link: http://www.photility.com/PhotoSheet/default.html
This software combines several separate images into a single image with a layout of your choosing. Once you download the free program you select your print size 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 12x12... There are many options. Then select the amount of photos you want to print on your sheet. Open your "folders" where you store your photos and drag them onto photosheet program. You will see a preview of the photos. Once you are happy with your collage at the botton of the screen you will see an output location. Click the "start" button and it will create your collage and save it.... "Just make note of the file name of where your collage is saved to... You will see the file name in the box". You can decide whether to print or upload to your favorite photo site. I have used Costco and they come out great.
This is my first year doing Project Life. Thanks you Ali for your inspiration. I have been reading your blog and really wanted to give it a try this year.
Melissa,
Thanks so much for the tip on PhotoSheet, just tried it and it works great, super easy!
I use PhotoSheet, too, and loveit! :)
Melissa, thank you SO much for posting this. I don't have PSE and used to use Photo Sheet all the time to make wallets, etc. Then my computer died and this file didn't get transferred to my new computer. By the time I wanted to use it again, it had been months and for the last month or two I keep wondering "what what that program called???" I'm so excited to be able to use it again!
OMG!! Melissa, I came to this blog post to see how Ali does her resizing after wasting 2 hours trying to write a Photoshop action to do this. GENIUS! I have wasted HOURS resizing photos, esp for Project Life. THANK YOU!!!!!

I know a lot of the fonts you use are commercial, but I was wondering if you have a list of your favorite free fonts, or free fonts that are close to some of your favorites? I always love your font choices and would love to be able to use some myself!

Fantastic, Ali - I really appreciate your tutorial. Thank you very much. Specifically, I appreciated your tip about the 2011 pages protector v. 2012 page protectors and sizing; I have a few left (and am waiting for the 2012 pages) so that sizing tip is very helpful. Have a good day.

I have tried to do this before, but somehow things get messed up when I am printing. I must have something checked wrong in the dialog box for the printer, because I never get exactly the 3x4 when I cut them apart after they are printed. You are always printing from inside of photoshop elements? Maybe that is what I am doing wrong?

Ali this is such a great tutorial, you never fail to impart knowledge on others efficiently. It's been a long since I visited you site (been busy the past months). Glad to find more interesting blogs here!

Very nice. I may have to watch this several times to totally get it, but I have my new photoshop 10 ready to put onto my computer. Just have to figure out how to use it.

Ali thank you so much for this. I know it is such an easy thing to resize photos, but sometimes these basic techniques are the most frustrating for me to figure out. Your tutorial is perfect and wonderful!! Thanks again for all you do!

Many many thanks. I feel like I have to relearn PSE every time I open the program.
I am exactly the same!

Like Melissa said - I have also used PhotoSheet by Photility and even better Zoner Photo Studio which allows you to create and save your own templates and then print any combination of sizes one any size paper. It allows you to upload an entire folder into the template and creates separate .jpgs for each finished collage sheet. It has changed the way I use Shutterfly and print my photos. Love it...
