Simon's First Stop-Motion Video

Simon Edwards | Obi-wan vs. Anakin from Ali Edwards on Vimeo.

Last week while I attended his IEP meeting Simon got to hang out with his friend Ben. Ben and his Dad had just been perfecting the art of stop-motion and taught Simon the basics. We left there with the name of a small camera and the software (Frame By Frame) Simon needed to make some of his own videos here at home.

The camera arrived over the weekend and he's been making little videos daily since then. This first one is about 9 seconds long - you might have to push play twice (for some reason I did). So cool.

Simon seems to be a natural film maker. I was hooked as soon as they switched on their light sabers! I am amazed at the advance techniques of the changing camera angle. I really enjoyed his story line also. Very dramatic ending!

That is AWESOME!! My 7 year old is taking a class at school on stop-motion animation and he LOVES it. I just showed him Simon's movie and he said, "That is soo cool! Is he taking a class like me?" I've now agreed that a video camera is top gift for my 7 year old's birthday..God help us all!

Hi Josie, I'd love to hear more about the materials of this class. Do they perhaps do their own drawings? And is there refernce material. Have noticed that my son's art is rather more stories than "still life" and am keen to encourage... tx

My favorite part was the very beginning when the lightsabers appear and the very end with the headless villain! Great job, Simon!

On Becky Higgins site she showed a PL idea. There is a site that makes the URL into the "square scannable" thing. Then they printed it out and put it in PL. Then when you flip the book you can scan with your phone and view the video away from the computer.

Incredible!!!! So cool that this technology is available for kids. When I was young this would have been way out of a normal person's price range to purchase. Go Simon Go!
