Simon's First Stop-Motion Video

Simon Edwards | Obi-wan vs. Anakin from Ali Edwards on Vimeo.

Last week while I attended his IEP meeting Simon got to hang out with his friend Ben. Ben and his Dad had just been perfecting the art of stop-motion and taught Simon the basics. We left there with the name of a small camera and the software (Frame By Frame) Simon needed to make some of his own videos here at home.

The camera arrived over the weekend and he's been making little videos daily since then. This first one is about 9 seconds long - you might have to push play twice (for some reason I did). So cool.

Love it! Those are fun little videos. Aren't kids these days so much smarter than we give them credit for?

OK my boy is addicted and wants DETAILS! Perhaps Simon could post some details about what sort of camera and what those basic steps are? Very, very clever Simon Edwards, very clever :)

Hi Melinda - the camera is actually linked in the post above. I asked Simon if he'd like me to record him giving a tutorial and he said yes - hoping to do that this weekend.

Congratulations Simon!!! Ali I remember when you first started talking about Simon wanting to do this. It reminds me when my son Sam (who is in technical training in the Air Force now) made his own video stop motions with our web camera back in early 2004 or so. They were so "cute" I mean creative and technically challenging...this is an awesome hobby for any child! Kudos to you Ali....great Mamma-ing! You are an amazing example for your children and really the rest of us too! Thank you for sharing your family life with us.

Awesome! Way to go Simon! Your video brought back memories of Willis O' Brien, Eliot Noyes Jr. and the stop motion movies I recall watching as a child, such as the original black and white Godzilla and King Kong movies. Every Sunday we would watch Gumby and Pokey. David and Goliath, Pinocchio, they were made this way too. I would love to see, and hope to see, more of your stop motion videos, Simon. Thanks for sharing.
