Project Life 2012 | Week Fifteen

Welcome to Project Life 2012 | Week Fifteen.

Loving how this comes together. No matter if it's rushed or well-thought out or I've had a chance to play with products, the end result is just such an awesome collection of life.

Continually thankful for this project.

I feel like I say that just about every week. And I do. Because it's true.

Here's a look at Week Fifteen:

The left side of the spread this week is pretty much photos + words. I added digital text onto one photo before printing and added stickers, pattern paper, or stapled on little tabs to the others using the Tiny Attacher.

The "hello routine" journal card is stamped using my Hello Routine stamp set for Technique Tuesday.

That face.

On the top right photo I combined a Cosmo Cricket 23 Collection Stickers + Lily Bee ABC Stickers + Studio Calico Kraft Butterfly stickers (on top of a foam dot).

Love these little tabs from Jenni Bowlin Hodge Podge Souvenir Stickers.

I started off doing something else along the bottom of this photo (hand-writing something) and didn't like how it was coming out. To cover it up I used a piece of pattern paper from My Mind's Eye Follow Your Happy Heart 6x6 paper pack, rounded the corners, and stitched it along the edge.

One insert this week to hold a fun photobooth strip from my dinner with Kelly Purkey in Portland. I used an 8.5 x 11 page protector, machine stitched along the edge to make it fit the photo strip, and then trimmed off the excess from the top and right side. In an awesome twist the business card from the restaurant was the same width.

On the back I made a graphic title combining stamps from Close To My Heart (Keepsake Alphabet) and American Crafts Rouge Pantry Foam Stickers.

The right side of the week includes some of Anna's artwork, a hilarious photo of George who seems to have no problems posing for the camera, a couple journal cards and something I hand-wrote that was added to my 52 Creative Lifts newsletter this week (a free newsletter I write each week that addresses ideas and concepts related to creativity).

I used my Silhouette to cut "love this life" from my Hello Life Boxes Vol.3 digital set and used the rest of that 6x6 pattern paper from the Follow Your Happy Heart paper pack.

Ali- What are the chances that your "Hello Routine" stamp set will be coming to a Digital Designer's store anytime soon? I love the set, but am not a stamper... And am dying to use that as part of my Week in the Life project next week!

Thanks for sharing your creativity and sparking creativity in me!

Ali - this week is gorgeous. I just have one question - i see this week there are a lot more pics of Anna than Simon. Now this is something I struggle with. My eldest daughter is away at boarding school and is only home for the weekend, so my PL is FULL of pics of my youngest, but less of my eldest. And i feel SO guilty about this that I hoard my eldest over the weekend and try and get as many shots of her as I can. A bit OTT i know, but oh the guilt!

oh ya..the mother guilt! i think we all have it!! maybe you could include a comment about thinking of your eldest during the week...maybe stop and jot down a memory of her at the age your youngest is...

My oldest is is the same age as Simon and it's the same situation. Some weeks he's up to a photo others he's not. I can only have so many candids of him playing the wii or on the computer. I try and get creative with him and most weeks my lil guy is in there more than my oldest. I like to photograph stuff of him, his laundry, his school bag, lunch, legos etc.

Hi Shayne - my first thought was let go of the guilt AND my second was to add in more when you can. Our books are representative of what "is" in our lives right now. Around here it's an ebb and flow. In my case I actually have albums full of photos + stories about Simon from when he was three (literally). I liked Laura's idea of including some words about your oldest as you are thinking about them. Also, think about the ways you communicate with your older child during the week - do you call, email or text? Maybe include some of those. Another idea would be to write your older daughter a note each week that you include in the album. Jennifer Meyerson does this to her kids each week and I love that addition to her album: http://www.jennymeyerson.com/project-life/

My boys are 10 years apart, so the oldest is away at college. I have him take pictures of the places he sees everyday.(I have to ask him "to take a picture for me this week of the library.") The study cubby at the the library, the sunset where he is (the sky is huge and their are no trees(West Texas) compared to the sunset here full of trees and we don't see the horizon. Also I take pictures of how we stay connected. My younger son talking to him on skype, the box of goodies we sent to him. I've even taking pictures off the internet that other people have taken of the town he lives in. Just some ideas!

Wow everyone, thanks so much for the input. I do include text messages that we send each other, and little things that have happened in the week (ie a hockey match played, achievements, outings etc that she has been on) but I like the idea of getting her to send me a photo she has taken. That I love. And Ali, yes, I think I'm going to write her a letter too. Perhaps not every week, but will aim for twice a month.

Your tips were great. Thanks everyone for taking the time to hear me!

Last year, during WITL, I did a full album and then realized my dad was not in any of the pictures {I live at home}. Granted, he was away that week, but I felt really stupid and dense for not recognizing that sooner. BUT ... he did send me a few emails and when he got back from his trip he brought some postcards ... so I added those to my album and wrote about how we was gone that week and how that was becoming a regular thing in our family {due to my grandmothers failing health.} I'm not upset that his photos not there, because it was life rigth then, and now I have a story {his travels} that I normally would not have had. :)
*I often put in emails of people not home
*Or pics of cards or letters ... one time, I took a pic of the phone. lol.
*You could put in mail and stuff from the school.
      *Updates she sends you.
*Any sort of "stuff" and then write more about what it's like with her gone.
*I love the idea of writing letters within the PL to your daughter.
      Hope this helps. :)

Great week again Ali, my favorite is the different hairstyles for Anna, she looks so cute no matter what you do with her hair. Love the insert of you and Kelly. The little scrap you did to cover up your writing came out great, love that idea!!

I always say how awesome PL is each week in my blog also, it really doesn't get old or not fun anymore. So thankful for this album each year I've done it.

Left you a comment on your other post about Anna and soocer. Forgot to mention an idea for you and her shirts. Since Sam has so many of his soocer/basketball shirts from playing all these years. In his senior year which is a long time off, there is a lady in our town who does quilting. She is going to use all his shirts to make a quilt and he will take this to college with him and just to keep as a reminder of all these years playing sports. Maybe you could do this with Anna if she ends up playing for years and has a pile of shirts to use.

Enjoy your week!! Can't wait till next Monday!

t-shirt quilts were a BIG tradition in the small town where i went to school. it was always a 'surprise' but because it's a tradition we always knew it was coming too, so we would compare notes with each other as various t-shirts started going missing from our closets and we would even torment our mums by saying 'mum have you seen ___ shirt? i haven't worn it in ages but i have to wear it for this school thing tomorrow!' just to see them twitch! how very mean we were! ;-)

anyway, the quilts were all made as very simple square patchworks and given as graduation presents so they served the dual purpose of representing all those years of activities and memories but also something useful to take with us as we all went out own way. we had a big summer picnic after graduation and compared shirts and told stories about all the memories the quilts brought back.

i know that is small-town silly in some ways, but it was one tradition that was really lovely, so i just wanted to throw in my words of support for that idea! :-)

Wow - super cool ideas! Love the cutting photo sleeve page smaller & sewing it to hold the little strip of pics; I think I need to learn how to sew on a sewing machine now! I'm pinning a few of these for sure!

Hi Ali - I love seeing the bits and pieces you add to your album. I know it's really about the words and photos, but my gratefulness about my week is amplified just a bit more when I find a great extra to add to a photo or journaling card.

I LOVE the pics of George - that one on his birthday in front of the food can is my fave. So great!

Looking forward to 31 and next week :)
