Project Life 2012 | Week Twelve

Welcome to Project Life 2012 | Week Twelve.

Catching up today with a look back at Week Twelve (the week before we took off for spring break). Hoping to share Week Thirteen on Friday.

When I get behind - I did a couple times last year when I was traveling - the easiest way I've found to catch-up is to keep it super simple with the attitude that I just want to get it done. Stick some things in the pockets and call it good. I know that some weeks are going to have more details, more words and more photos and others will be less. I also know that I'm most interested in the album as a whole vs. any particular week. Onward!

Here's a look at Week Twelve:

I have to say that getting my hands back into this project again felt so good.

I've really got the itch to make stuff, tell more stories and play again. It's been a tough last six months for me and I'm really ready to lighten up and come out of the fog.

It snowed here during this week. And not just a dusting - more like 7-8 inches. Totally rare and random for this time of year (actually for any time of year). I used a Random Facts Journal Card to record some details about how rare it is (info collected online).

I loved being able to add a screenshot I'd taken with my phone on the day it snowed. To take a screenshot with your iphone hold down the top button (power button) and click the bottom circle button to take the photo. It will then show up in your camera roll.

"Hello Snow" and "Winter Wonderland" are both brushes from my Hello Winter set.

I'm often asked about how to (and/or should you) incorporate the more challenging stuff of life in this project. It's a very personal choice. For me, I've included things along the way that give a nod to the heartache and challenges of the last year. Sometimes it's been more obvious and sometimes more vague. During Week Twelve we signed divorce papers to complete the process. Rather than write a detailed account I decided to include photos of flowers I received from friends with a simple statement, "Papers signed. Tears shed. Friends treasured. Moving forward. Looking ahead."

The second half of the week signaled the beginning of spring break (and really so many beginnings): a concert (Lady Antebellum + Darius Rucker), a movie (The Hunger Games), packing for our trip, a mani/pedi, and a birthday celebration for George the cat.

"Bring On The Fun" and "Hello Spring Break" can be found in my Spring Break set at Designer Digitals. "Make A Wish" is part of the Birthday Hand-drawn set.

I loved taking a photo of the packing process for each of the kids. Fun to see the color themes. On top of each photo I added an American Crafts letter sticker (Rouge and Robin's Egg) and a button from this Ormolu set.

    Ali,
You are such a class act! Onward and UPward!
By the way, I am looking at iphones...I've got the bug! What model do you use? 3? 4? 4S?
    Thanks, carol

I have the 4 and it's great - but as soon as I'm able to upgrade to the 4S (or the next one if it's available in the fall) I will...just waiting on my contract to get to the point where it's less expensive. I know the photos with the 4S are that much better.

Just for the record, I think you do a wonderful job here, of acknowledging the pain, but keeping it dignified and private too. It sounds like you have that balance in this project as well.
That red nail polish photo seems like the perfect symbol of letting go and having some fun.

Ali, you are one of the strongest women I have had the pleasure of meeting. Being in your presence brings me peace and serenity, may you gain that peace and serenity from the people that you love and admire. A friend in Virginia, Barbara

Good stuff. I love the shot of your hand and I don't know if you did it intentionally but a shot of your left hand sans ring is so appropriate to the week too. I hope you have found comfort where ever and whenever you have needed it and know that you have one of the biggest cheerleading squads in the world rooting for you! Go Ali!

I noticed the fingers sans rings and thought what a great 'make over' for your hands/life. Been thinking of you as I listen to the OLW prompts, glad you got flowers and got to go to Disneyland.

Thinking about you all :) I love that photo of George on his birthday. Something about animals "posing" is hilarious to me. We know why they are doing this and they're probably thinking "what the heck is this all about anyway?"

I echo the other cheerleading posts. You have dealt with a heartbreaking time with positivity and grace. Hard things to find. I divorced a while ago before I found memory keeping and it has given me a measure of peace since I have found it. Also it has renewed my belief that my natural disposition of positivity isn't wrong or stupid but a way of avoiding depression, navel gazing and focussing on hurt which only zap you badly.
My children and I don't find it easy and no-one would hold us up as a model of family i'm sure, BUT we are happy or content most of the time and we find time to laugh together most days, even if I have to construe it. It's so important and i'm so pleased for you that you recognise it now. Good luck and God Bless you all whilst you go for the next chapter. x

Divorce is hard and you have handled it in a very classy way- but I know its hard sometimes. It is a grieving process you have to go through. I too noticed that your photo of your mani was the left hand- here's hoping that lots of good times are coming your way!!!

    Ali,
Love the layout. The pictures of the flowers immediately reminded me of the flowers I received after losing a baby years ago. They were so beautiful and I wanted to remember them forever. Anthuriums are my favorite flowers on the planet.
Stay strong because many people are rooting for you and the kids.
I'm grateful to have you in my life.
