Week In The Life 2012 | Wednesday

NUMBER OF PHOTOS FOR WEDNESDAY | around 50

My Wednesday started off with a nice hot shower after getting Simon up and on his way.

Everything shifted around 8:20 am when I got a call that Simon's neurologist appointment was cancelled (we've been waiting over a month) and then as I was getting Anna dressed I realized she felt warm so I took her temperature and it was 102.

Time to go with the flow.

I actually put my PJ's back on to settle in for a different sort of day.

One of my biggest observations today, especially as I look back over the photos tonight, is that there's something to be said for sameness.

Some people may see taking the same shots on different days as boring (or feel bored by it). I see it simply as repetition - repetition in design, in routine, in life. It's those things, those repeated actions and events, that build our days.

I also feel acutely aware, through the photos I've taken so far, of the way we live in this house. The rooms we inhabit most, the way I move through the house from one place to the next. Again, lots of emphasis on the rhythms of days.

Here's a look at some of my day:

Hi Ali, love the picture of Anna stamping, and the three of you sitting round the table. I have become more aware of our routines since starting Week in the Life too.

    Hi Ali,

Love that you put your pj's back on showing your ready to just go with the flow. Hope Anna feels better today! Love the ones of you again, mine aren't working well for me this time around?? Your pictures had a relaxed way for the day, like that idea!!

I agree with what you said about the sameness and routine of everyday, I crave this way of life. Today I did my photos and words about what I'm thankful for and it makes me that much more happier to have this project.

One of the things I'm showing everyday is my front yard each morning while waiting for the bus, each morning is the same yet different, LOVE THIS!! I'm also taking one of the sky each day around noon, different everyday so far. The last one is always the sunset and I always love seeing the different ones each night, my favorite of the day. It's my way of saying good night to our day!

Thanks Ali again for all you do and share with us!

I love seeing your kiddos look through a scrapbook! I am trying to take photos of the same things from different perspectives. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much.

OH goodness I've come to a conclusion my Week in the Life is going to be lots more journaling then pictures, but I'm OK w/that as I hardly do get to writing. Today is a new day. Let's see if I can actually get a few more pictures (hmm didn't I say that yesterday?)

I'm actually trying something new this year. I'm doing PL but I wanted something different {but still using the basic spread}. So, I am taking ONE photo a day that will fit the 3x4 slot and journaling in the 4x6 slot. I'm looking for more of a schedule and more of an acurate list of things we do each day {I've noticed that some of the things we do are falling in the cracks of PL. Not bad -- just noticing that you can only fit so much from one day in a 4x6 photo! lol.} Anyway, I'm focusing on journaling too!

I think that there is something homely about sameness too. Hope Anna is feeling better soon.

Ali I can relate to that...... my two kids (James 8 and Sienna 6) also had to stay home sick today so my day changed as well. It didn't help that I felt unwell either.

Thanks for the reminder to look at the things we do every day and try to capture them again, yet differently. Routine gives such wonderful security, to children and adults alike. I love the picture of Simon and Anna looking through scrapbooks! I am working on some so my children can have that same pleasure. Thanks for being such an inspiration!

i see the lego death star. in my house, there would be a resounding musical crescendo of the star wars theme hummed for days on end if it ever happened to appear! i think that death star deserves its very own page!

This rang very true ... documenting the days makes me very aware of how routine life is during the week. Oh and it needs to be! We all depend on the routine. I've been enjoying the week so far. Not too overwhelmed ... just taking photos and jotting things down. It will be interesting to see what I captured next week when I sit down to pull this all together. As always, thank you Ali!

Speaking of the value in everyday life - have you ever seen the magazine "Seeing the Everyday"? Becky Higgins recommended it on her site and I've recently subscribe, anxiously awaiting my first issue.

Also, love the stamping -that could be my girls except I'm not brave enough (or maybe it's too Type A) to let them do it on the carpet - hardwood floors only please!

    Ali,
I have been dealing with a sick little one and I have been quite sick myself. We have been doing a lot of pajama days here lately.

I have been documenting my daily life lately and I am amazed at the routine we have. It is most definitely almost exactly the same every day. I love seeing how we do things.

Yes, I guess my contribution today would be to enjoy the age every chance you get. No, it is not fun to be home with a sick child, and it disrupts your day, but you graciously went with it and that is so important. Having a 15 and 16 year old who went to lunch with me yesterday (they had the afternoon off from school because of testing), they quietly said, "Mom, please don't take pictures in public! We know half the people in here!!!" So I agreed and was made aware again of how fast it goes and the "age thing" with teenagers! Sometimes they are OK with all the pics but not in public I guess. Hope Anna is feeling better today and that they get Simon in quickly. It is so frustrating.

I love that I've picked up on some new routines that I didn't realize exsisted. LIke the way my youngest goes straight to his room when we walk in the door and pulls out the same 5 or 6 cars to play with. At least these week he's been playing with the same ones everyday. He has a lot too but it's always the same cast of characters. I realized that usually when we get home everyone just sort of goes about their business for a little bit and then we come back together for dinner. I never realize what my boys really did until this week! I knew they were playing but I never realized with what or how.

    Hi Ali,
Just to let you know you inspire me a lot!. There's a number of revelations I am getting from WITL project. You see we are childfree {not by choice} and there's a bit of longing in my heart everytime I look at children's photos in almost everbody's posts including Simon's refusal to look at the camera and oh Ann's bright-as-a-sunshine smile! At the end of every day, the longing is replaced by deep gratitude for the woderful life that I am blessed with. And most of all the gratitude that these wonderful children are loved and cared for unconditionally by their equally wonderful parents. God bless your family.
    Cheers,
    Mei Ann

Love your pics again today, Ali. I hope little Anna is feeling better now as well! And hopefully you won't have to wait to long to get Simon to a neurologist. Even though your pics are repetitive based on daily activities, I love that it really reflects how your life is right now. There's nothing wrong with routines and flow at all!

Poor Anna Banana! Thanks for your insight on sameness. I was just thinking about how I was going t title my Wednesday post "press repeat" because it has so many of the same things as Monday & Tuesday. But I know that when I assemble my album these things will all fit together.
