Week In The Life 2012 | Wednesday

NUMBER OF PHOTOS FOR WEDNESDAY | around 50

My Wednesday started off with a nice hot shower after getting Simon up and on his way.

Everything shifted around 8:20 am when I got a call that Simon's neurologist appointment was cancelled (we've been waiting over a month) and then as I was getting Anna dressed I realized she felt warm so I took her temperature and it was 102.

Time to go with the flow.

I actually put my PJ's back on to settle in for a different sort of day.

One of my biggest observations today, especially as I look back over the photos tonight, is that there's something to be said for sameness.

Some people may see taking the same shots on different days as boring (or feel bored by it). I see it simply as repetition - repetition in design, in routine, in life. It's those things, those repeated actions and events, that build our days.

I also feel acutely aware, through the photos I've taken so far, of the way we live in this house. The rooms we inhabit most, the way I move through the house from one place to the next. Again, lots of emphasis on the rhythms of days.

Here's a look at some of my day:

Spent some time this morning reading the other blogs and love what everyone's doing and sharing. So much fun knowing we are all doing the same project but from all around the world and different lives.

I'm jealous but thrilled for the ones who are doing this with little ones, mine are teens now and for the ones with no kids or single, would have loved to have those times of my life in albums.

Great job everyone!! KEEP CALM AND CLICK ON...

Loving your portrayal of life and missing this project for myself, but I just cannot manage it right now. Thanks for the links to others as they are providing lots of great ideas for this project.

I'm new to the project idea but I am really appreciating how it is teaching me so much on the beauty of my world and how many different things I See and Notice, this week more than last, every day.

Thank you Ali for doing this!

I absolutely love the photo of your kids looking at your scrapbook albums. It just reinforces why we do this thing called scrapbooking.

Ali, one of the things that has bugged me is that my life is so much the same from day to day. I don't mean that there aren't interruptions and days when I go out of the house for some reason but due to disability I have a more quiet life. I am single, I have no children, and my 84 year old mother lives with me. I never thought to look at the sameness the way you just mentioned. It has given me an entirely new way of looking at things. I don't mind my life, just didn't see a reason to document it over and over. Now I can see that the patterns say something about my life and who I am. Thank you.

    Another batch of great photos!

Sorry to hear about your sick baby girl and the neurologist canceling on you. That is so frustrating! As the mom of a 10-week early preemie, I understand how having Dr's cancel on you can be frustrating.

Ali, I am so grateful for your post today (though I am sorry Anna was not feeling well and Simon's appointment was cancelled). My routine is such that I really do pretty much the same thing every week day. And while I hate to bore visitors to my site with the sameness, I take comfort in the peaceful existence that is my life (currently). My sister was taken from us at an early age two years ago and that was a hard year. Routine - sameness - sometimes that's a good thing. Ah, but I ramble. Enjoy your day!

Ali- I am really enjoying your posts and am loving this project!! I'm so glad I decided to do WITL this year... I'm having so much fun using my shutter remote and self-timer to get 'in the action' shots. Even my husband is checking out what I've done at the end of each day- he might even snap a few photos of his time with our little one when I'm at work tomorrow. Can't wait to see what he comes up with :)

Ah yes routine. I agree that we do shy awayfrom it but I'm with you Ali and have taken the same old shots day after day. There is no point in pretending that routine isn't part of our lives because if wee look back at these albums we won't get the big picture and precious moments live both in and in-between routine. Hope Anna is all better and another appointment comes through soon.

    I hope Anna is better.
I think part of the interest in repetition (especially with something life Week in the Life) is to help show that these really are events that happen much the same each day and they really do help to shape what our days are like. What happens each morning, each day after school and each bedtime help us to remember that those were our routines, because someday they will change and those routines might be forgotten. What a wonderful reminder of what everyday life is like now for your future selves!

These pictures really made me smile. As my child gets closer to high school age..I am more and more aware that the sick mornings, when the pjs come back on and everyone ends up back in my bed..are the mornings I truly treasure. Of course nobody wants their little people to be sick. However, there is something so special about being at home together recovering away from everyone and eveything.

I'm not doing very well on this year's week in the life. Not many photos taken this week. I have thought about doing it later, my MIL passed away the day before WIL began and I have spent the days since scanning in some of her photo albums, all day every day! Not much else going on for me. That, plus I just can't seem to get with it this week, makes me want to wait. On the other hand, this week is a look at life as it sometimes is, not always happy. Maybe I'll do two weeks instead of one. Looking at your photos makes me want to keep on doing this week, thanks for the inspiration!
