I Want To Tell You | Traditional Scrapbook Layout

I wanted to share a layout I put together for Big Picture Classes Creative Crop celebrating National Scrapbook Day last weekend.

My challenge was to create a layout that included a photo from a few years ago and one from today and tell a story about how things are different or the same.

Here's a look at my completed layout:

For my layout I decided to use two photos of Anna. One from April 2009 and one from April 2012. She’s been quite a handful lately as she navigates her own independence and I wanted to write some journaling that was written directly to her. My journaling became less about how things were the same or different, and more simply about things I want her to know right now.

I used two 4x6 photos for my page and paired them with two 3.5 x 4 pieces of pattern paper. On top of those pattern paper pieces I added more embellishments including stamps, cards, word stickers, etc. I used foam dots to pop up some of the accents.

Underneath the main content area I used a single sticker to start out my journaling. After placing the sticker I hand-drew lines with a black pen and wrote my journaling on those lines.

I made sure to date both photos. To finish off the page I added a hand-drawn border around the whole 12x12 layout.

JOURNALING | I want to tell you that the time has just flown by. I want to tell you how amazingly independent you are and how much I love that. I want to tell you that even though I get frustrated with you, I still love you so much. I want to tell you how much I am learning from you as we navigate these early years. I want to tell you thank you for your smile and enthusiasm and love. Love you Anna.

I saw this at the crop and loved it. She has grown up so fast and is such a girlie and cutie. I can see how much fun you have with her being your only girl. She will always keep you on your toes, you need to be a few steps ahead of her. LOVE THE LAYOUT and your handwriting is always cool to see.

I scrapped this weekend too, got 5 layouts done, hooray!! I left you a scrapbook comment on your other post. Thanks for inspiring me to start scrapping again.
    Enjoy your day!

WOW - amazing page Ali, that little Anna sure does have a cheeky smile, how beautiful, even though times can be testing at any age really, enjoy them while they are still young and , l remember scraping a page about my 22 year old son not so long ago, the pic of him was when he was 4, and all l wanted was to turn back the cogs of time and hold him tight in my arms again, they grow up so quick , right before our eyes, so lm sure you will get through those everyday hiccups, with lots of love for your children, just like your stamp says-- love always wins

I love documenting pages like this. It was one of the challenges I completed for the Creative Crop. I'm turning 35 this year, so I compared my years at 14, 24, and 34. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love how the notches in the index cards look like a puzzle. And love how that means it joins together.

I need to do something like this. My girls are 16 & 17 now, and I often think back even 2 years ago and marvel at how they have changed so much. Thanks for the inspiration.

hi susan, i just read your comment and wanted to add something that i just read on Stacy Julian's blog - EVERYTHING COUNTS.... so you said you weren't scrapbooking but completing PL pages in any way that pairs photos with your memories is SCRAPBOOKING - so you've probably been doing loads - congrats!

I love how honest you are, Ali...."Even though I get frustrated with you...." It is a good reminder for me to write about the challenging times as well when I document our life stories. Thank you for the inspiration!

I love this layout! I just wanted to comment on your participation in the Creative Crop on Saturday. My daughter and I spent the day together intending to enjoy all of the BPC presentations. We were disappointed that there were only 2 live video chats and actually left to go scrapbook shopping once we realized the rest were just chats. Thank you so much for opting to make your segment a live video chat. We enjoyed it immensely and learned lots from you that day, but the highlight for us was your little Anna. She had us in stitches and we were amazed that she was so well behaved when her mom was so busy right then answering our questions. Anna's antics were so precious and funny and we are still talking about how much we enjoyed the whole half hour presentation. Thank you so much for a most enjoyable time!

Thanks for the feedback! Normally I would not have had her with me because it becomes distracting, but it was the best I could do this time :).

Love this layout! I really enjoy looking at layouts where the journalling is written specifically to the person the layout is about, and I'm sure in a few years time, Anna is going to love looking back at these layouts too! I love the girly colours too... It adds such a playful element to a page about a little girl!
