Week In The Life 2012 | Working With The Layered Template Set
My Week In The Life album is in progress and today I wanted to share with you a video tutorial on working with the layered templates.
I'm using these in 8.5x11: Week In The Life Layered Templates 8.5x11 Vol.4 (the 12x12 version is available here). You can read more about my initial design plan for 2012 here.

Thank you so much! Love the knockout effect and had no idea how to do that in PSE. Lifting that idea for my pages. :)

I too had no idea how to produce the 'knockout letters'. Many thanks for such good ideas and brilliantly clear instructions.

Thanks so much for showing us the knock out concept. That is new for me so I will be sure to put what I learned to use in this project. It will be my first ever digital project! I am adding in baseball card sized plastics in the middle of each template. I don't do Project Life, so I am excited to play with the little bits in each of those pockets for this project.

i don't know you came out with the 'week in the life 2012 template set' on 4/14/2012. i bought it from designer digitals on 4/21/2012. i got the older set and not the new set. so i just don't understand what happened.
Hi Marsha - there's actually 4 different Week In The Life template sets available. Each year I've created a new version (you can see them all here: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digital-scrapbooking/supplies/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=week+in+the+life+template&x=0&y=0). When you posted about the sentiment tabs I just figured that you had picked that template set because that was the design you liked best.

Hey Ali!
Always love watching your videos! The knockout thing is seriously revolutionary for me!! I would love to know what other products of yours will allow for that. I tried it on a few of your frames with words and it just fills it in with another color. I'm guessing that it will only work for certain things.
Thanks again so so much for sharing your knowledge!
Blessings,
Alicia
Hey Alicia - tell me more specifically which one you tried and I can see if I can help.
i think i may have just misunderstood how to use the knockout. it doesn't just work with everything. i was picturing using it with sentiment boxes and outline words that i have bought. thanks!

I remember you took over 100 photos the first day. Your templates look like they hold 7 photos. How many photos are you doing a day?
Maybe 10-20 depending on what I put in the middle. Some of my middle pages have room for 6 more photos and others have room for 12. Of those 100 (most days were less) there's a lot of repeats or trials or similar photos.

I watched the video and when you are doing the "knockout technique" of Monday letters - you said you clicked on tolerance - (I think that is what you said) what tab is that under? I couldn't find it in cs4? cool technique - your videos are always helpful
thank you :)
Hey Lori - it's not under a tab. Usually it's along the top of the window (actually in CS5 to see it you go to window/options and a new bar will come up that includes "feather", style, height, width, etc). It might say "feather" instead of tolerance in CS4 (just checked in CS5 and that's what it says).

I asked for Photoshop elements as an early birthday gift and just downloaded in today. This video was exactly what I needed, thank you. I cannot wait to start on my photos.

Hi Ali,
This is a great video, you explain things so well. Thank your for the sale on your classes, so cool. I'm still saving for the 31 days, I have to pinch pennies a little tighter right now due to us having two car payments now, that has never happened before. Still have these classes on my wish list!!
I just finished my PL for the WITL week and posted it. Still planning on doing a regular album with everything but it's nice to have my PL caught up also. Here's the link if you and your readers want to look, THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR THIS JOURNEY, it makes me so happy to have this week of our family docutmented. Have a great day!!

This is an inspirational video Ali. You are an exceptional instructor. Your style as an educator is impeccable. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this -- I plan to rewatch this again later, with pen, journal, and laptop in hand. After my day when I can proper take notes. Love this.

I'm so glad I watched the video ... and that I saved my files as PSD files, because I want to go knock out my letters :) I was just finishing the layouts up to send to Persnickety for printing during their weekend sale. Thanks for the video. It was great!

Ali,
I hope you are going to show us how you do each page in your book (with any added embellishments like you mentioned for this page). I purchased this digital kit and followed along with this tutorial and finished the first day of my WITL. I'd really like to see more of your book before I continue.
Thanks!
Oh I'll definitely be showing my whole album - it's in progress right now. I won't be doing a video tutorial for each day, but I will be showing what each page looks like in my complete album and providing additional details (which is what I've done each year prior).

Any chance the cool PDFs you are giving away withxyrin this week will be part of a digital package sometime soon? LOVE the arrows today and always looking for good arrows!
Yes :). The circles + tabs from the first day will be available today/this weekend. The arrows will be available next weekend (with additional sentiments too).

Hi, Ali - thank you so much for the video! It's been a while since I've been on PSE so this was a huge time/frustration savings! A question, in case you see it... on the Option 4 template, there doesn't seem to be a journal layer and I can't figure out how to add it :( I really like the picture layout I have and would love to learn how to do this simple function... help and Thank You So Much!!!
Hi Teri - just seeing this now. Use the T tool to click on an area and drag to create a box to add your text (you could also copy that layer from another template and move it over).

Hi Ali
Sorry, this might be a stupid question but I would like to know if it is possible to adapt these templates to A4 size? I can't get hold of US letter sized albums etc in Europe.
Thanks for everything you share and teach us!
You could change them up - sure - it would take some work but it's possible when working with the layered templates in photoshop. I would create a new canvas that is A4 size and then drag and drop the one's I've created and adjust the background to fit.
