For The Weekend | Almac Supremo Margarita

Part of my summer manifesto includes making three new drinks.

This one isn't new but it's my current favorite - made even more my favorite because it comes from my parents (and I love that when I read it I can hear my Dad's voice). I shared it last month on Facebook but wanted to include it here so I can easily access it again in the future.

Do you have a favorite summer drink I could add to my list to try? I just saw a watermelon mojito recipe in Everyday Food last night that would accomplish two things from my summer manifesto (three new drinks + lots of watermelon).

Hope you have a great weekend!

ALMAC SUPREMO MARGARITA

Basic Quantities to make one serving (one serving = one pitcher // two glasses):

  • 3 oz. good tequila

  • 2 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice - when you pick out the limes, go for the soft ones

  • 1 oz. simple syrup - to make simple syrup - mix 1 cup water and one cup of sugar in small sauce pan and bring to a boil until liquid is clear - then chill. Usually I do a couple of cups each and save left over in refrigerator for next event. After liquid turns clear then cool it - best to make ahead of time.

  • 1/4-1/2 oz. orange liquor (we used Cointreau)

Triple above ingredients and mix all in pitcher or blender 3/4 full of ice - shake and pour over ice for "on the rocks" or blend and put in a martini glass for "blended." Your Mama and I prefer "on the rocks."

Rim your glass with mixture of one tablespoon of kosher salt and one teaspoon of sugar by placing the mixture on a plate. Rim the glass with a wedge of lime and dip glass in mixture of salt/sugar (it helps to do this prior to pouring your potion in the glass).

My favourite summer drink is "Pimms O'clock"

Take a jug or glass and fill it with ice, mix one part Pimm's No. 1 with 3 parts chilled lemonade, add some mint, cucumber, orange and strawberries.

Its a long tall glass of summer !

Great for sharing and so very English.

I love mojitos but I don't know how to make them. I should add that to my summer bucket list!

Oh, I have a watermelon margarita recipe that is to die for! Involves squeezing the pulp, but it so worth it. I will unearth, and send it to you. Comes from the Highland Grille in Birmingham, Alabama.

We make something similar but use agave syrup (available in the sweetener aisle of Whole Food or some grocery stores) instead of simple syrup. It's easy, yummy, and doesn't separate when iced.

We made Limoncello Prosecco Coolers for a part a few weeks ago and they're our new fav summer drink!
1 part Limoncello (keep in the freezer so it's good and cold)
3 parts Prosecco (cheap champagne works great too, as does club soda)
Freeze raspberries to use as ice cubes, add a few sprigs of mint if desired.
    Enjoy!!

Oh that looks fabulous for a hot summer evening! My summer staple is a hopped up Arnold Palmer - ice tea and limoncello. This summer I'm determined to try a new "martini" I made up: godiva, roasted marshmallow vodka, and a crushed graham cracker rim. It's a s'more in a glass! I just can't seem to find the dang vodka local right now.

I have a yummy drink for you and the kids to enjoy - it's a treat I grew up on that was also considered a reward! (e.g. "Go clean your room and I'll make you an Egg Cream.)

    EGG CREAM

Fill a 12 or 16 oz glass 1/3 with milk on bottom
3-4 squirts of chocolate syrup next
Then simultaneously pour cream soda while you stir the mixture up!
Stop at about 2/3 full and keep stirring quickly, it will make a nice foamy top

I love this drink! And the neat part is, you may hate milk or cream soda as a stand alone, but mixed together it's a different story!

    Enjoy!

Our fave is an adaptation of one we saw on Semi-homemade with Sandra Lee.

One bag of frozen peach slices (reserve 4 slices)
    One cup of peach yogurt
One can (15 oz) sliced peaches
    One cup peach schnapps
Place all in blender and process until smooth. Serve in 4 tall glasses with a straw and one peach slice on the rim.

My favorite summer drink isn't really fancy, but perfect for summer evenings on our patio. I love Smirnoff Citrus Vodka with Lipton's Diet Citrus Green Tea. It's heavenly!!! And with no calories in the green tea... it's just the vodka! Light and refreshing.

I don't drink alcohol but I do love smoothies and mocktails. At the end of the week I used to whizz up a few fruits that I had left in the fridge and we would have a non-dairy smoothie with our dinner. My 3 year old loved that he was in on the good drink action too!
