Hello from Dublin, Ireland!
I’m traveling this week with Scrapmap and a wonderful group of like-minded memory keepers and photographers. We’ve spent the last couple days in Dublin and are getting ready to move on to other parts of this glorious country tomorrow.
Here’s a few photos from our adventure:
We spent today in Dublin, visiting the Guinness Storehouse and Trinity College (to see the Book Of Kells) among other adventures.
As you can imagine with our group there’s a lot of this:
Taking photos of stuff like this:
One of my favorite things so far was visiting The Mill at Avoca Village, Wicklow. Seriously, just take a look at these colors. We got to visit the working handweaving mill where they make their beautiful blankets, scarves, hats, etc, The colors are just so awesome. Loved learning about the process and seeing the looms in action.
They have an online shop if you want to check them out. Definitely bringing a few blankets home with me.

What a lovely trip-so far. Love “traveling” with you like this.
Thanks for posting the photos. I would have loved to have joined this group as Ireland is my Grandmother’s homeland.
Ali,
I SO would have gone on this adventure if I hadn’t just visited Ireland last spring! A girlfriend and I rented a car and I drove over 900 miles on the left side of the road without incident (sometimes on really narrow roads!) We had a great time, and wish you all the best of adventures. Everyone in Ireland was SO friendly, and we were there in the spring just as the lambs were being born, and it was all I could do not to scoop up one of those lambs and smuggle it home in my luggage!
Happy travels, and glad to see you so happy these days
Kathy Passmore
Love the pics so far! Would love to visit there one day
Big time jealous, Ireland is on the top of my to go to places

You are making me homesick….I miss Ireland terribly. Thanks for the photo essay.
Looks like a great trip, hope to make it there (and Europe!) one day!
Love the pictures. The Cross is awesome! I was there over 24 years ago with my father, uncle, cousin, and grandparents. I often wish that I would of been into memory keeping as I am today. Thank you for sharing!
Ooh, you’re making me want to go back again soon. We were just there in March and I was so so sick (pregnant + virus) so we didn’t do as much as I would have liked. But the Avoca stores are awesome.
Thanks for sharing. Your photos bring back so many wonderful memories. Ireland is such a special place to visit. I may have to start a return to Ireland vacation fund after this.
I can’t wait to see where else you will be visiting!
Wow, those blankets are awesome colours! Looks like you guys are having a great trip so far! So wish I could have gone!
Thanks for sharing, Ali, love your blog, so inspiring!..
Waving to you from just across the water in England! I love Ireland – my red hair and green eyes proclaim some distant Irish ancestry! So glad you’re having a good time – thanks for sharing your experience with us
I’ve been in Ireland 2 years ago, and I really loved this country, I felt kind of peaceful there (don’t know how to explain that). Thanks for sharing your pictures (love the colors of the weaving mill – and oh! the Book of Kells… waow!). Have a nice trip.
So great to see the places I’ve been. No OSHA there so you can walk around the mill on tour. Great!
Thank you for sharing your travels with us. Bon voyage!
Love your pictures, they are bringing back memories. Look forward to more updates.
Ireland is one of my favorite places in the world and home to some of the nicest people on the planet. Can’t wait to go back someday.
Have fun.
I would be so there for the Guiness flight. Not for me, but for my husband. I’ve taken many a pic of either a wine or beer flight tasting. Love the bright colors of the yarn. And, I love the perspective of your pics.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I am SO envious, in a wonderful happy great kind of way. Wanted to go so badly, another time in my life i hope!!! Be safe ALL of you and have a wonderful awesome trip!
The colours in the blankets are wonderful. We went to Dublin in April and loved it but I want to go back to Ireland to see Wicklow and Cork. Enjoy the rest of your trip – perhaps you should come to London next

You can never have too much of the British Isles or new textiles. Better-than-good stuff. Relax and enjoy~~ (the Guinness didn’t look too bad either!). @*
Love those colors – I hope you bought some for yourself
Ali,
So glad you are enjoying being this side of the Atlantic.
Ahh yes, Avoca is a gift for the senses!
Jane (Dublin).
On my one and only trip to Ireland I anxiously awaited the chance to see the Book of Kells…. Only to find it was out for restoration the week we were there………One day I will go back. Enjoy your time there and the lovely people of Ireland.
Oh, my heart jumps seeing your lovely pictures from the emerald isle. Thanks for sharing them with us. Slainte and go dté tú slán! ~ julia
Gorgeous colours and blankets. Glad you are all having a good time.
Particularly love the pics from the mill! The colors? Stunning. Love the composition of the pics too!
TFS. Enjoy!
Take care you,
Suz
Ahhhh, I was just at Avoca and Glendalough in June! St. Kevin’s was my favorite site in all of Ireland, followed closely by the Dingle Peninsula. If that is part of your trip, be prepared for major photo opps!
My all-time favorite actor is CURRENTLY filming a movie in Dublin… I would SOOOO be stalking.
LOL Seriously; have a great time and post a zillion photos & updates, please!!
Make sure and eat at the Avoca Pub! Heaven! Loving the photos!
Wow. Loving the little peek into Ireland through your lens. What a wonderful trip! Can’t wait to see more.
I love the group shot! In my area…seeing pictures just taking pictures is NOT a common thing so when I have my camera out, taking a picture of the street…I stand out. I wouldnt stand out in this group! Love it…
That Guinness looks soooooooooooo good. Toast James Joyce for me.
It looks like a great trip and can’t wait to see more as you move along on your travels.
Sigh. This is the trip I was supposed to go on. Had the funding all lined up. Then my husband deployed back to Afghanistan and mommy guilt kept me from being able to leave my son. Next time, Ali. Next time.
Oooh – I literally want to eat those colors. Or wrap myself completely in them. Or paint each room in my house a different combination of two of those colors. Or all three of the above.
Ali, I love your photo taken through the archway ~ what a great perspective! And the Avoca pictures…oh, what gorgeous colors! So glad you’re having a good trip ~ looking forward to more pictures!
Awesome! enjoy!
I am hoping that you will be designing some brushes after this trip…I just returned from two weeks hiking and visited some of these same spots…have been following you and your group’s journey. Loving all your updates. “Sláinte”
