One Little Word 2013

One Little Word necklace from Lisa Leonard.

My word for 2013 is open.

Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.

Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.

I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.

I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.

Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.

And what do you do with this one little word?

You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.

I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.

If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP

Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.

Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.

People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.

This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we  can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the  course of the year.

The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.

BALANCE...my word is balance. I want my life back in balance. I want it all to make sense. I don't want to be overwhelmed anymore. I want to be that ferocious, passionate girl I've always been. I want to do the things I love again.

It's funny how my One Little Word each year comes to me. It's more like a whisper instead of a yell. 2011 was ACHIEVE, and career wise I did. 2012 was FIND, which I thought was strange, but something told me to just go with it. I ended up finding answers to a nagging, small medical issue. And now, I'm leaning towards GET for 2013. Let's see what I "get" in the coming year!

My word choose me: SPARKLE...after a year of declutter (OLW of 2012) I need a light-hearted word with possibilities- one of the definitions of sparkle is something about 'be full of life'- I love that. I am looking forward to a new year with OLW at BPC!

My word for 2013 is STRONG, chosen especially since my husband will be deploying early next year and I need to be strong for myself, and my children while he's gone.

So many wonderful words and discussions! I haven't picked my final word. One has been floating around in my head for awhile but it doesn't really cover all that I hope for so several others are now roaming around - I'll take a few days to think some more about them. Checking definitions and synonyms too.

For 2012, I chose BELIEVE to encourage myself to believe that if I go in the direction of my dreams they will come true. This is really a 5 year word because it will be quite a journey to get there. However, I see that they are already materializing.

For 2013, I have chosen BALANCE because I spend too much time on too few areas of my life. I need to find balance to work on my health and fitness needs along with my career objectives.

This is my third year doing One Word! Past years have been devotion and deep. This year my word is NOURISH. I love the idea of choosing goals and a To Do list as way to nourish myself- self care. I also like to think of watering and caring for a seed that grows and blooms. Grown and action imbued with love and care.

I read all the comments, beautiful! I love them all! <3
Last year, 2012, it was a year of 'anything', and it sure was! The first weeks the energy of it was overwhelming, but then it brought me many different interesting experiences and had me jumping into things I probably never would have had the courage for.
This year my word came to me in September, very clearly, in an instance. 'Commit' it is. Do the work to reach my goals. I've been testdriving this word a little and it feels absolutely right for me. :)
I want to thank you for bringing this lovely adventure of One Little Word into the world! Thank you!

I was having a hard time coming up with my 2013 word but I was on a site today and I kept going to the word inspire so that is my word. I want to inspire people(especially my children) to do things this year and I want other things/people to inspire me in various ways(ex: losing weight/getting fit).

I could "think" and think of the best word...but this year I am going to go with the first word that spoke to me. My word is "CREATE" I have always simply loved the word, and you can create your own journey, create your own perspective, create a positive way of thinking, and the whole reason we mostly follow your blog is because we too LOVE to "create". Thanks Ali for this wonderful always inspiring blog!

This is my third year for one little word. I've been brainstorming my word over the last week or so, as well as considering going with last years word again since I don't feel I lived up to what I wanted to do with it during 2012 at all, but today a word popped into my head and I just new it was the way to go.

My word for 2013 is Happy.

    1. favored by luck or fortune

    2. notably fitting, effective, or well adapted

    3. enjoying or characterized by well-being and contentment

I also joined the workshop for the first time, I just thought that doing so would help me keep the word forefront, and would be able serve as a reminder for when I get of course during the year.

I absolutely love this idea. I'll have to think about a word though, hopefully I'll know it when it comes. P.S.- I LOVE the necklace you're wearing in the first photo, is it custom made? I went to the website, but obviously didn't see it there.

My word will be: "Maintenant" = "Now" in English.
I like the latin version: "Hic et Nunc".
    Thinking about it.
I'd like to enjoy the moment, here, right now. This is a little word for a big project, a new way of thinking.
Hope it will be the good word for me.

I have a few words floating around at the moment... Create, Do, Prioritise, Choose... I'm not certain which one it will be, but I know I need an action word. I got so far with my word Achieve throughout 2012, that I'm super excited for the year ahead as well.
