Project Life 2013 | Intro Page

Hello Project Life 2013. So excited to be embarking on this project again.

I'm a couple weeks behind so if you haven't started yet and you're still thinking about it there's definitely time. In reality you can begin anytime, but I get the desire to start at the beginning of the year. I'll be sharing the spreads for my first couple of weeks throughout this week.

I love putting together the intro page.

Here's a look at my last three years (click on the photo to go to the actual post for supplies and my thoughts on the process at each of the different points in time):

Project Life 2010

Project Life 2011

Project Life 2012

And here's my intro page for 2013:

This year I'm using the Seafoam kit as the base of my project. As I've done in past years, I combine a lot of different elements - some from the kit, some that are my own digital/printable designs available from Designer Digitals, some from the Studio Calico Project Life kit, and other goodies from my stash.

I use Design A page protectors as the base spread for each week.

For my 2013 intro page I included three photo: one of me, one of Simon, and one of Anna. I added one wood veneer star to each photo.

For printing at home I use the Epson PictureMate Show for the vast majority of my Project Life photos and Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy. Highly recommended.

The "Hello Life 2013" design is available here and was cut with the Silhouette. Learn how to trace my digital PNG files in the Silhouette Studio software here.

In addition to the photos I create four, 4x6 cards.

Here's a closer look at the design formula for each card:

Seafoam Kit 4x6 Card + gold American Crafts Hardcover Chipboard alphabet + October Afternoon Make It Merry chipboard #3 + gold Zing glitter embossing + Orange Stitching.

I use a Brother XL2600 sewing machine. Love it.

Gold Dot Paper (from JoAnn's) + My Mind's Eye Be Amazing Chipboard Banner + Heidi Swapp Sentiment Sticker + Tiny Attacher Staple

Heidi Swapp Disco Stars + Teresa Collins Word Labels Pattern Paper + Gold Stitching

KI Memories Blackboard 12X12 Flashback Paper (available in the Studio Calico Penn Station Kit) + Celebrate Circle from Seafoam Kit (punched out from a journal card with a Marvy 3-inch Circle Punch) + gold glitter embossing Zing + Technique Tuesday Good Day stamp (punched with a 2-inch punch)

Using the 3-inch Circle Punch to cut the circle from the Seafoam 3x4 Card.

Bring on 2013!

Thank you for sharing all of your intro page versions. I loved the people you used in your 2010 version. SO fabulous. And you have such a knack and mixing and matching pieces from all over into something cohesive. LOVE.

Ali, your intro page is beautiful, thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you would share how you started and ended each volume of last year's PL. Thanks again.

Love this title page!! I was wondering about this printer-I noticed on the Amazon site there are packages of ink and photo paper. Do you buy your ultra glossy paper separate from the ink? Where do you purchase the ink and could you link that. Thanks-I have been looking for a printer and this one seems easy. Just want to figure in all the expenses and don't want to purchase their combo pack if the ultra paper is so well worth it.

Love your title page! Your posts always provide me with such creative fuel to get crafting again. I have been putting off my title page for fear of not making it perfect. Time to jsut go for it I think! Thanks Ali.

I agree that you should go ahead and start an album any time. My PL albums currently run October to September, as I began my first one after a huge change in our lives; so even though my albums don't quite fit a school year or a calendar year, they do mark the anniversarys of the "after" picture of our lives, and I like that.

You can purchase through Craft House in NZ, I believe they cover the NZ and Australia markets - and very nice people to deal with too!

Great title page! Love seeing your progression through the years.

I have the same printer you used to have, the HP B85000, and was wondering would you still use the Epson photo paper or are you just using it, because you are also using an Epson printer? I'm trying to find some good photo paper and was just wondering what your opinion is. Thanks, Ali!

My opinion has usually been to stick with the same manufacturer (with an epson printer use epson paper). That said, when I was using the HP I also used Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl photo paper (I believe it's what Cathy Zielske uses as well) - it's a really great paper.

      Heather,
I don't have the same printer as you and Ali (I have the Canon MG5320) but I do really love the Ilford Galerie smooth pearl paper (purchased on Amazon). It is a matte finish although they probably also make a glossy. FWIW. Another option perhaps? :)

Ali, I love looking at your pages and 'borrowing' ideas for my own PL. Last night I sorted our three individual photos, found stickers for the date and started putting things together - using your inspiration. Thank you!

I'm doing PL again . . . 5th year for me . . . digital as usual and loving it. I'm going with Anna Aspnes art palette kits and pushing myself to embrace the artsy style! So far just LOVING IT!

I'm going to give PL a go this year. Not sure how long I'll make it. I'm planning to do my intro page last - thinking it will be more of a summary page. I love your self portrait. I need to get a few of those in there.
    Thanks for always being inspiring!

Hi Ally, looking forward to following your PL progress through the year again. What I would really like to know is how you deal with expanding to more than one album, in particular what you do with the last page of vol 1 (and vol 2 if applicable) and the first page of vol 2 (and vol 3 if applicable). Suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Great question. I was trying to decide what to do about this myself as I am currently dividing up my 2012 album - mine is currently OVERSTUFFED. Would love to hear your ideas.

Hi Karen - this is something I actually haven't dealt with yet. It's on my list! In my 2011 and 2012 albums those pages are currently blank. Once I decide on a course of action I'll be sure to share.

Thanks Ali (sorry I misspelt your name to start with - I must have been on auto-pilot). Would love to see what you come up with. I keep feeling that I can't "let go" of last year's albums until I have those pages filled!

Thanks also for your great inspiration. Following your progess in 2011 inspired me to try PL last year and I am so glad I did. My 2 kids, esp the 10 year old, loves looking through it and we've now got a record of lots of little stories about every day, and sometimes not so every day, things that I had forgotten about even just one year on. I love how you have shown it does not have to be a photo and a story a day; how some weeks you will have a lot to record and other weeks, it will not; and how while its good to focus on the good things, to keep it "real" its good to acknowledge some of the tough moments as well, because that is all part of life!

An option would be to do what Stacy Julian sometimes does . . . use the last page for a pocket page to put misc. memorabilia or for a collage page of extra photos that didn't get used that year. Can't wait to see what you all come up with :)

Love the handwriting font that you use on your Project Life layouts. Just got a Silhouette Cameo which I am trying to figure out. Wondering which font you're using and whether it's the same one as your CK handwriting font that you used to cut out on your Silhouette?

Hi Shelley - most of the things I cut with the Silhouette are word art vs. a font. All my hand-drawn word art is available through Designer Digitals: http://bit.ly/99ColI. Here's a tutorial for working with my word art and the Silhouette (you trace the files before cutting): http://bit.ly/rKN4NQ

Hi Debbie - you can print it onto cardstock, onto a photo (via Photoshop), or onto an ink jet transparency. You can read more about working with digital files here: http://aliedwards.com/2010/01/getting-started-digital-scrapbooking.html
