A Year With George Washington Edwards
About this time last year we adopted a one-year-old cat from our local Humane Society (you can read that story here).
George has been the most awesome addition to our family. We had hoped for a cat that would be equal parts playful and cuddly and that's exactly George.
Simon was really the one who wanted a cat.
As he would tell you straight-out in his matter-of-fact manner, "I'm a fan of cats."
George and Simon definitely have a special relationship that's continued to grow over the year. I often find him sleeping on Simon's bed when he's at school and if he's inside when the bus drops Simon off he often runs downstairs to greet him.
He's indoor/outdoor just like a dog.
That was a total win as far as I'm concerned.
Yea, he's kinda like a person sometimes.
And other times he's just like a cat.
I'm also a pretty big cat fan so having this guy here has been therapeutic for all of us this past year.
He and Lily are definitely pals.
And for those of you who are bigger dog fans, Lily's been doing pretty good considering her age since being really sick two summers ago.
Super thankful for this little guy in our lives even when he brought us two snakes (once inside) last summer. As Simon likes to repeat (and I so agree) from Indiana Jones, "I hate snakes."
We love you George!
Snakes? Yikes! that;s a new one to me! We also adopted a one year old cat last year, but she only brings birds- always a trigger for a little chat about the circle of life and animals are different from humans etc! I think she is a little disappointed that I am not thrilled with the gifts she brings me!

He is such a beautiful cat! Unfortunately, we are not allowed to have pets where we live, and it's hard for me as I have always had cats around growing up and such. And the kids (4 and 3) are starting to ask why we can't have pets. I love the pic of him sitting at the table! So cute! Keep the cat pictures coming!

We love cats and have 2. Our newest cat, who belongs to our daughter, plays fetch like a dog. I am sure she is not the only one but we think it is kind of funny. They definitely have a mind of their own. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c86fdCUmzo8&feature=youtu.be Here is the link to see Dakota playing fetch with a milk carton ring.

Not much of a cat person...totally a dog person, but I know how much they can add to our lives. Hopefully, we do the same to theirs! Loved reading about George Washington Cat (Simon named him, didn't he?)
And, this is going to sound really lame, but I will often open one of Steffi's albums and talk to her as I look through it. Steffi is our VERY spoiled VERY pampered 13 and a quarter year old white mini schnauzer princess. I swear she likes to look at them too!

So sweet. I lost one of my kitties last summer and so many of these pictures reminded me of my cat, Skunk.

We have 3 small dogs, one inside cat and 3 outside cats. I love our dogs dearly but I am most definetly a cat person. Love them! So much fun to watch and cuddle with! And MoMo (the inside cat) is just so comforting to pet and snuggle when you have had a hard day!

"I'm a fan of cats..." I can just hear it, lol!! I'm a fan of cats- and dogs- myself, and think a home just isn't complete without one (or five, lol!) thanks for the fun story, and I'm glad to hear George Washington Edwards (great name, BTW!!) is such a good fit into your family.

Loved this post, so heartwarming. I have one cat who also brings home snakes! But he politely eats the entirety of the mice he catches. His mother on the other hand ... eats all but the heads and proudly leaves the HEADS at our back door! Gotta love em :)

You can almost hear that cat thinking thoughts like Garfield. Love those eyes!

I have a real soft spot for black with white, short haird cats. We had one growing up - Pitters (short for Pitter-patter) lived to be 18. Your George reminds me of her, except not sure she would have tollerated a dog :O) Glad he is such a good fit with all of you!

Seriously, he's the most regal looking cat! The one at the table w/the cat food still makes me laugh - and I'm not a cat person :)

He's got an adorable personality that you caught on camera. Cats are great medicine. My own Buddy (orange with white belly) loves his belly rub and wants to play several times a day.

Your posts are always fantastic, but this is one of my favorite favorites. I too have a tuxedo cat and then another nearly solid black cat and they bring me great joy and comfort. They sleep on top of me if I fall asleep on the sofa and just like in your picture, I find myself looking into large, green cat eyes when I wake up. And the picture of George Washington sitting at the table reminds me so of my "big girl - Sweetheart" cat who was only with me 10 short years. She often "sat at the table" just like that and I declared over and over that she was half human. My husband was not amused! And no one could sleep like her. She had perfected the "cat nap." Such good friends these creatures are - such an essential part of our lives.

He's gorgeous--and I love his name! Yep, I can't imagine life without a cat. Like having your own pet tiger! :)
