Project Life 2013 | Week Six

Welcome to Project Life | Week Six.

Lots of Anna celebrations this week and a concert in Portland.

Some of you might notice that I didn't include all the photos that I included in my blog post about Anna's birthday. I've got plans to create a layout for the rest of those images.

The large chipboard 4 stitched onto the top left photo is from October Afternoon. Usually I use 4x6 cards from the Seafoam kit in that location but decided to mix it up with a photo this week.

The childhood Project Life mini-kit editions are not just for stories about kids. I used a card from the Wellington set this week ("good memory").

And yes, I have a new friend.

IDEA | Use a pocket within the pockets. These stitched vellum pockets from Studio Calico are a great fit for the 3x4 pockets. The package includes both kraft and vellum stitched pockets.

Chipboard banner is from My Mind's Eye.

IDEA | Print directly onto Seafoam journal cards. This week I chose to print a quote directly onto a journal card that included word art from my Quote This set. In photoshop I set up a new file sized to 3x4 at 300dpi. I added the words and the quotation word art. Before printing I added I temporarily adhered the Seafoam journal card onto a 4x6 sheet of photo paper and ran it through my Epson PictureMate printer. I usually recommend doing a test print first and then adding the journal card and re-running it through the printer.

The 8.5x11 insert included this week is the Conversation With Anna I did right around her birthday.

On the back I included a collage of four photos of Anna from each of her birthdays.

The Hello My Heart 3x4 card was printed on photo paper.

The pink "today" on the photo of Anna at her party is from Elle's Studio's new Day To Day line and the layered circle sticker is from My Mind's Eye.

Word stickers on the top right photo are also from My Mind's Eye.

IDEA | To partially cover up an image I used a piece of vellum cut to 3x4. I also stapled a banner from the top of a layered My Mind's Eye sticker to the vellum cover.

What do I use for my corner rounder? The Corner Chomper from We R Memory Keepers set at the 1/4 inch corner.

TY Ali for still posting layouts vs project life. I love PL but it seems that every one of my beloved blogs are only focused on PL and have all but abandoned layouts. Me thinks way too much PL and not enough L/O from my favs. BTW, you looked awesome with your blowout and your new friend is mucho photo-worthy! XO

I definitely haven't abandoned them (my 12-week Big Picture class this summer will include all new layouts) but I do find this a really great way to document our lives.

Love Ali's PL pages. Printing Journals - Love the idea of printing quotation word art right on the 3x4 cards. Found an awesome website to print journal made so simple (no tapes or adhesives). I bought some of the templates and they work wonderfully with PL journaling cards. Print Ali's digital brushes right on the PL cards or textured cards.

Lovely pages. I especially love the photo of Simon and Anna together, and the one of you and Anna in the bathroom together. You included some really fun angles with your pictures, which gives me some great ideas for making the same old things look interesting again. Thank you! Congratulations on your beautiful daughter turning 4...and on your new friend :)

Love that last photo of Anna and a little bit of you, and also that the photo's of your new friend are just glimpses at this stage. Beautiful moment btw. And the quote is AWESOME.

Oh Ali i forgot to ask you on your 'A conversation with Anna' page how did you 'stretch' the top photo of Anna over the 2 boxes in Photoshop? I did purchase that template but it originally comes with 4 photo layers and would like to sometimes just have 3 photos for variety.

    Thanks a million!

You can simply grab the bottom of the box (when that layer is selected) and drag it down to resize. I usually do this before I mask the photo into the shape.

      Hi Ali

I did try what you said but i cannot seem to get it to work. I did resize the photo to fit over 2 of the layers(photo boxes) and saved it but the minute i ctrl+G it goes back to the first layer.Do i need to select the 2 layers at the same time perhaps?

      Hehehe............guess i am having a blonde moment:-)

I remember you did do a video tutorial on it but for the life of me i cannot remember which tutorial it came from.

    Ali

Printing on different paper really didn't cause any problems with your PictureMate Show? I was thinking of doing that, but the manual had this big warning about not printing on anything other than Epson paper, so I was rather leery. Have you done it very often? Thanks for any additional insight!

I didn't have any issues - I don't do it all the time (this was the first time in awhile) and it definitely worked to have the journal card (from the kit) temporarily adhered to a piece of Epson photo paper.

    Ali,
I have a question for you. How do you reconcile the fact that you have a "family" PL album but 2 children? Perhaps you live in the now and don't worry about how the kids will choose to be the "keepers" of your creations in the future. I really don't want to be a digital scrapbooker but folks say that it's easier AND they simply print multiple copies of what they create for each of their children. What do you think about this?

I don't know why I addressed that question to Ali specifically. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts.

      02/21/2013

Hi Nena - I really don't think about it. I figure they will figure it out (just like how my parents had bunches of photo albums that live at my house vs. my siblings homes). I also have done a variety of mini-books and other scrapbook albums over the years that are specific to Simon or Anna or me. I know it will all be okay down the road.

Digital is a great option for being able to print the same thing for multiple family members but I don't have any plans to go all digital just for that reason alone - I like the mixture of textures too much (even though most of my work tends to be flat).

Wow. You are quick!!! THANKS!!! Your response really does validate my inclination towards enjoying the process and letting the future just happen a la "Don't worry, Be HAPPY."

Just chipping in with my thoughts - we have 2 daughters but I only ever do layouts for family albums. I figure they can sort it out between themselves! Copies could always be made later if they really wanted to.
