How Do You Read Blogs?

Have you read the news that Google Reader is going away?

Which leads me to my next question...

How do you read blogs these days?

Via a reader? Via email? Via bookmarks?

I've been using Feedly for a bit now and love the clean streamlined design plus it looks great on my ipad which is where I tend to read blogs the most (thanks to Peppermint for the tip on that one a few months back). I also just have a set of bookmarks in Firefox toolbar that includes blogs I like to visit from time to time. I do have a couple blogs I subscribe to via email that I really don't want to miss.

I've used Reader for a while now and sad it is going away. I love it because it was connected to my Gmail account allowing for easy access anywhere without having to download software on my computers. Also, it allowed me to read blog updates directly in the Reader w/o having to load the blog on my computer. I usually only go over to the actual blog only when I want to leave a comment. This is useful especially when I'm at work, and don't want to click on too many websites. Does anyone know of a similar set up? Thank you.

I've been all over the place and am still trying to figure out the best way to follow blogs. Previously, I used Google Reader, then I figured out how to get e-mail updates (from some blogs), then iGoogle came along (but that'll be ending in November) and lots of bloggers have suggested Bloglovin' which I'm trying and is pretty good, but I'm still not crazy about it...After what you had to say and other's comments, I'm thinking about trying Feedly - my biggest desire is that it show an image (since I'm so visual) and it looks like it does that. If I could get all the blogs that I follow in one place that would be awesome!

I've used Google Reader for years. I loved to cruise through the titles of the blogs that were in there while standing in some line or waiting at a kids sports practice. I would bookmark anything I thought I wanted to read more in depth and then "mark all as read" keeping it cleaned out. I had a small panic panick moment ofterafter Googles announcement until I did some research and found Feedly. Its been a little rocky switching over over, mostly trying to figure out their format so I could continue to be a creature of habit, but I think I'm finally getting it and will like Feedly better then Google in the long run.

I use Outlook - when I click on Bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox, it has an option "Subscribe to this page". When that comes up, Outlook is an option. So it downloads it right into Outlook. It's been the easiest way for me so far. It's not really Email, it's under "RSS Feeds" in Outlook.

I love to get blog updates sent to my email, basically because I just don't have the time to blog-hop. Please don't stop sending them!!

I use bloglovin - its free = sucks in all the blogs you're following from ireader/igoogle. And like ireader - shows up when an update is made. I miss the other stuff from igoogle, but this is convenient and so far so good.

I was a longtime Bloglines user until they tricked us into thinking it was going away (but then it didn't) and I had already jumped ship to what I felt like was the inferior Google Reader... but now I really depend on Reader, so, ugh. I have been playing with Feedly too--and read through Flipboard on my iPad. Apparently Flipboard has the demise of Google Reader handled (right now they work together) so I've not been worrying about it too much.

feel silly asking this but is google reader the same as the blogger dashboard?? I have a reading list at the home page to blogger (google product) and I go there for seeing snippets of the blogs I follow... I have seen several bloggers I follow comment about this change but never got a notification from google about it.

Or, I add blogs to FlipBoard - an app I love on my iPad that I use for reading articles/news.

no worries... we'll still find/follow you Ali!

Put me in the category of "how do readers save time?" Don't have any tech that starts w/ "I" and I prefer reading on a bigger monitor, so bookmarks work just fine for me. (Also I use firefox and open in tabs so if a blog is old news, I quickly close that one.)

I use bookmarks. just like knowing which ones I want to go to. I have subscribed to emails too recently, but tend to forget to go and check.

I too use Google Reader. LifeHacker.com had a post in March in which they listed their top 5 favorite alternatives to Reader: http://lifehacker.com/5990456/google-reader-is-getting-shut-down-here-are-the-best-alternatives I've tried BlogLovin and don't like it that much but that's my personal opinion. I know several people that really like it. I've been meaning to check out the suggestions from LifeHacker but I have yet to do so. I have some blogs bookmarked - they're ones I like to check on now & then but not daily. I also follow some blogs, like yours, on Twitter, and know when a new post is up.

I haven't found a good way to read my faves other than typing in the address (usually after typing in a few letters the entire thing fills in). I've tried bookmarks with my iPad but that doesn't work well for me. I'm going to give feedly a try!

I don't think I know exactly what Google Reader does or if I use it! All of mine are set up as RSS feeds that are linked into my inbox on my Mac under RSS and I can see when any of the blogs are updated. I can then click over to that blog and read whenever I like. Are RSS feeds part of Google Reader?

You use a Mac I believe. You can add RSS Feeds under the Mail tab. It is the last thing before Print in the drop down menu. They are organized by blog and waiting for you to read them. No worries about it or other blog readers going away. It is part of your Mac mail system. Let me know if you have any questions.

I just follow a few blogs and have them bookmarked reading them on my computer. I guess that is the old way. :)

I use the RSS feed feature in my Mail program on my MacBookPro (no iPad yet, but my laptop is surgically attached to me anyway!). I also have some bookmarked in Safari for occasional reads.

I tried to use a RSS reader at one point but didn't hang with it. I use Flipboard on my iPad as I can see blog posts, instagrams, & twitter posts on it from each blogger or website I follow. It may not be the best bet but it works for me.

I'm using Bloglovin and I am pretty happy with that. I also tried Feedly but I didn't like the iPhone app. But since I am reading blogs mostly on my iPhone the mobile app is very important to me. So I tried Bloglovin, which has a very nice app.
I also subscribed to a few blogs via e-mail but I will change those to bloglovin too.
