Hello Story | 12-Week Online Workshop Now Open For Registration

I'm excited to announce that my brand new 12-week online workshop, Hello Story, is open for registration at Big Picture Classes.

This is a live-class meaning that it has a start and an end date. It will run from July 8th through September 25th.

From the registration page:

What's your story? This summer, say hello to a dozen fun strategies for sharing more of your words, and more of yourself, on your scrapbook pages.

In her new 12-week workshop, Hello Story, Ali Edwards will introduce you to 12 storytelling techniques—never-before-seen in her prior journaling workshops—that will bring both creativity and clarity to your writing.

Through in-depth videos, specific weekly topics, and 36+ exclusive layout examples from Ali (12" x 12" and 8 1/2" x 11" layouts, plus Project Life inserts), Hello Story will inspire you to take action and give you the tools you need to tell your own stories with confidence.

Are you ready to discover (or rediscover) the fun that comes from the interplay of design and words? By the end of class, you may even enjoy the writing process just as much as you love taking photos and playing with paint and paper!

Here's what I want you to know:

  • This is a layout class. I'll be showing all new layouts and talking about the place where design + words meet. Each week I will also include an example for taking the topic and using it in Project Life as an insert for those of you who are enjoying that memory keeping style at this time.

  • Each layout will include a how-to and ideas to note in the weekly handout. Most will include a video overview where I walk you through the creative process.

  • Each week there will be a printable or digital elements to go along with the theme for the week.

  • This workshop is not solely focused on writing. It will definitely be a part of what is addressed but I've decided to approach the layouts in this workshop by starting with a design idea/theme first as a way to create a storytelling foundation. I'm branching out beyond some of my tried and true techniques and playing with a different approach by starting with these fun design concepts.

I hope you'll consider joining me on this memory keeping adventure. I'm happy to answer questions if you have them in the comments below or you can email me.

Yes. All Big Picture Classes have "forever" access - even once the class has ended you still have access to the materials and content (I just won't be there to answer questions, etc).

I would totally love to do this! Unfortunately the budget says no :(
Would this be available as a self-paced class afterwards?

Hi Jen - no, this won't be a self-paced class at least for a few years, if at all. These bigger classes sometimes get turned into self-paced ones, but I don't have any specifics on when that would happen.

I would love to sign up for your class. I find your layouts and journaling so inspiring. We will be on vacation on and off through out the summer. Would it effect my experience if I wasn't able to work on the class for a few days at a time?

    Thanks Ali!

Nope - should be fine. Content delivery will be one day per week - on that day you'll get an email that there is new stuff in the classroom (handout, videos, downloads, etc). There's no specific time you need to be available :).

Hi Ali. I hate to ask the obvious but I am assuming this will be all new content and ideas from your other journaling classes correct? I've taken other classes from you and just wanted to doublecheck. I love everything you do. Thanks Ali!

Sorry Ali. I should have read your description closer before asking. I jumped the gun on that..

Hi Cindy - I tried to make that clear in the description above. This is all new content coming at it from a different approach this time. It's still about the words but it's more about using design techniques as strategies for assisting us in getting stories told. You'll see me using some of the same writing styles as I have in the past with a different focus (repeatable structures that help us organize the words).

Hello - this class sounds wonderful. Just wondering if the layouts will all be traditional or if there will be some traditional and some digital? Thanks Ali.

Hi Therese - for this class I'll be doing traditional pages. For me that usually includes some printable elements or word art on my photos, but not fully digital pages.

I am SUPER EXCITED about this class!! When you announced it last fall, the word STORY hit me right then and I knew it would be my OLW this year. Thank you for that, I've enjoyed telling more stories and ways of telling them this year.

From your peek above it looks like you went back a few years on this layout. Is this going to happen a lot during the class? Should we be getting older and newer pictures ready ahead of time? What should we be thinking or getting ready for when it comes time for class?

Can't wait for class to start!! The price is high for me but I'm tucking little bits away each week and will have enough hopefully just in time when it starts! Crossing my fingers nothing else breaks in our house till then.

Hi Dawn! The assignments will be general enough for you to adapt them to stories you want to tell. There's no really anything you need to do to prepare in advance - thinking about and making a list of stories you'd like to tell would be a good idea if you don't have one already but my guess is that the examples will spur additional ideas.

You can definitely join in I just won't be providing templates as a part of the class. I will be including PNG/printable files that can be used each week. The storytelling concepts can be used for any style of memory keeping - I'll be presenting one concept each week and talking about different ideas for using each storytelling structure.
