For The Love Of Sweet Lily Girl
Our sweet Lily girl passed away peacefully yesterday after an awesome last run on the beach she loved so much.
She was the most fabulous friend and we will miss her everyday. She had a wonderfully full life during her 12+ years with us. She especially loved going hunting with Chris or my Dad, running on the beach, and hanging out with me in my office.
She was my constant companion and was by my side during all the best and most challenging times. I had the thought today that maybe she stayed around (she was very sick in the summer of 2011 but pulled through) to be with me during the time I needed her most.
I am so thankful she was a part of my life.
Love you Lily girl. Thank you.
See more photos and read a post from 2011 about her story here.
So sorry to hear that about Lily. She will be missed by so many but your family most of all.

Thank you, Ali, for sharing bits of life with Lily with us over the years, as well as her final beach run. Our lab is just over a year old, and is already such an essential part of our family. I think letting a dog into your heart is one of the most "open" things a person can do, since you know you are likely going to have to bare the pain of letting the dog go. And yet their companionship makes it worth it. I know our Duke has already made me a better human.

So sorry to hear about Lily passing away. It is amazing how a pet becomes like family and how hard it is too let them go. Thinking of you.

Ali,
So very sorry to hear of your loss. Losing your dog is truly one of the hardest things. These little furry beings work their way deep into your heart. They provide comfort to us and do not fail us like people can. I know both what a friend a dog can be in dark times and how devastating it can be to say goodbye. My thoughts are with you and your family.

How is George the cat taking it? If I remember, they were pretty good buddies. It sounds like this wasn't a surprise--like you gave her a last good run on the beach and then made the choice to let her go. Either way it is sad, but I hope it wasn't a shock and Lily wasn't in any distress.

It's strange how sometimes they just know. They know when they need to stick around and when they can go home peacefully and leave us here. They know that now, after the initial grief, we will be ok. I have witnessed this 3 times in my life and I feel your pain. But, like Lily knew, it will be ok.

I feel very deeply for you. Our chocolate lab, Lucca is 12.5 and I know our days with her are numbered. It breaks my heart to think of life without her. But, like Lily, she has been the best dog and my constant companion, (even with being blind for more than half her life).
And, even though the sadness must be overwhelming, I'm sure another little ball of labrador fur will be in your lives again at some point. Until then, cherish all of the memories you've had with your beautiful Lily girl.

I cry as I read your post, we lost our golden retriever honey last week at only 10. They leave such a huge hole, I feel your sorrow right now....I presume it gets easier as all things do with time.
Sending the biggest hugs your way

Ali,
I am so very sorry to hear about your sweet baby. I lost one of my dearest companions, my Mandy Lynn, a kitty I had for 16 years, just two months ago. It is heart wrenching. I also have a dog who looks so much like your Lily, and know she will not be with me forever as well. It brings tears to my eyes to know your heartache. I was devastated when my Mandy passed. She was also with my daughter and I through a divorce and I believe too that she was meant to be there for us when we needed her most. I hope you will find comfort in the fact that it was time for her to go play with the angels after she gave you everything she had and you gave her a beautiful life as well. Thinking about you and your sweet children today.

I have no doubt Lily stayed around to help you. Our furry family members are very intuitive. I lost my beloved pit bull Toro 3 years ago. He was such a kind and gentle soul. He helped me with my fathers death. I communicated with him the way we must have communicated with each other back when where was no written or spoken words. Crazy huh. It was so hard to let him go but it was the right thing to do. I owed him that. I will miss him every day. He is up there somewhere with a ball in his mouth waiting for me to throw it. God bless.

Oh, Ali, I'm so sorry. I loved whenever you mentioned Lily, or she snuck into a picture you posted. Dogs are such wonderful companions. They are empathetic, loving, loyal, and warm bodies when we need them.
Our golden retriever passed away last year, 457 days ago. Ahem. I might be keeping count. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him. He will forever be my first dog. My wonderful furry friend.
I wish you peace at this time. Lily had a great life, she had a good Momma and a loving family. I hope my Tucker greeted her and shows her around doggy heaven.
