December Daily 2013™ | Looking back at December 10th

DD_Lookingback

Katie had the fun idea to take a look back at a specific day in my December Daily™ albums over the past six years to see what sorts of stories I told. Last year we went through and made a list of all the different stories I've told over the years - you can check that out here.

She picked December 10th as the day to review (totally random) and here's what we found:

Simon's first soccer practice. This is a great example of the times when I've simply included an everyday life story vs. a holiday story. It doesn't have to be something seasonal each day. Make it work for you so you have motivation to follow through with it.

The journaling for this page was written on a card and added to a pattern transparency.

This spread features a strip of photos of an ornament that my parents gave to Simon and the details of that story are printed on the right had side of the page.

Simon and I had a date to see Fantastic Mr. Fox at the movie theater. I also added a page from the newspaper that shows what the weather was like on this particular day.

This spread tells the story of Katie and Anna making ornaments. The right hand side is a full page, close-up photo of the ornaments. The printed transparency is a page on it's own between the right and left hand pages. The left page includes the journaling and some of the original painting Anna was doing was added as a strip along the bottom.

A visit with Santa. That photo on the left is one of my favorites. Love the contrast between the photo I took and the professional one.

This spread includes a Hello December Day card (from my Christmas Story Journal Cards set), "let your heart be light" word art printed on vellum and a photo of Anna playing with a bunch of her little people and animals. I actually loved that 4x6 size for my album last year as I felt it helped me keep things simple.

WHAT DO YOU CARE ABOUT MOST? As you check out all kinds of December album examples online I invite you to think through what you care about most during the holiday season. What stories do you want to capture? How can you set yourself up for success?

December Daily™ is not about making the coolest page with the newest products, it's about celebrating the season, finding the joy and being thankful for all the blessings we have in our lives.

Thanks for the reminder Ali. It's easy to get caught up in the frenzy of making the perfect page - when upon reflection, each page is perfect as you look back on them. Excited to start the DD again this year.

    Hi Ali,
It was lovely spending time with you in China, a most wonderful adventure of a lifetime.
    Thanks for today's post,
it is what I needed to hear right now
and your quote is right on.
I am struggling this season with the many life changes that have occurred with in our family and how different our holiday season will be. Just last night Isaid to my DH, maybe we should skip Christmas, not decorate this year, just be very low key and put my SC DD kit away to keep it for another year.
And then what to my surprise, I read your posting this morning and it touched my heart deeply.
Yes, life is different and letting go of long standing traditions with be part of this season but certainly a way to navigate and enjoy this year will be to pay attention to the blessings within my life.
Thank you sweet Ali for your beautiful words today.
    Hugs,
    Catherine

I only just started Project LIfe and i'm planning on participating in December Daily in my PL album. Loved getting some inspiration from this post. Especially the every day stories and the newspaper clipping about the weather! Such great ideas :)

Great post! I love your picture of the kids with Santa! I think it's a way better perspective than the professional one and the contrast was a great thing to include!

Would you consider making your DD quote as a free download? I'd love to add it to my album this year.

This is my 6th year of doing a DD album and it continues to be my favourite project of the year. Just last week, as I was prepping this year's pages, I took a stroll through my previous albums. What a fantastic experience. Thank you for creating this meaningful project. You have blessed many with your inspiration and I am truly grateful.

A great reminder. Thanks. And also for the idea of looking back and taking time to understand what stories we care about the most. I don't need much of an excuse to revel in those books from past years. ; )

Love this! I really like the quote graphic at the end. Any chance you could share that as a download? It would be great on a title or ending page in my Dec Daily album. :)

    Ali, How fun!
Numero Uno though, Katie is definitely a keeper!
Numero Dos, I so remember the year of Simon's indoor soccer experience! Oy!
Numero Tres, while we're on the subject of wonderful first born sons, Charlie has an article for your reading pleasure, publicly available: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/02783193.2013.829549

That should do it. It's about debunking the right brain/left brain myth. I hope it works, he sent me the link....

So if you and Simon ever make it out here we'll have to introduce Simon and Charlie! And bring Anna, I'm sure she and Sarah would hit it off too! Dancing and fairies and fashion and stuff. :) And painting -- Sarah is taking a drawing class to enhance her painting!

Ali, I love seeing these past memories and remember them all! It's amazing to us seeing your kids grow and share this holiday with you thru December Daily. Thanks so much for bringing this to us and letting us share ours.

Tell Katie she gets a high five for this great walk down memory idea. Will have to do this myself but with my PL instead, I only have a few DD and last years is still sitting here half done.

I'm with the others, this would be a great download for us, PLEASE!!

Great message - this is such a fun project and there are so many great projects on-line, but I know for me to finish it I really need to focus on what I most want to capture, because I really will not have time to do much more than that during the busy holiday season.

Thank you for more inspiration for December Daily. I've decided to do a true December Daily album and take a vacation from my Project Life album. In my mind it will be sort of a reward for actually completing my first year! I still have some weeks to complete (all pics are printed!) & I can use December to do that while focusing on my December Daily album. I will add to the other requests for a free download of that quote. Thank you Ali for all your inspiration!!
