Welcome to the February Studio AE Blog Hop From Technique Tuesday.

Technique Tuesday offers a monthly stamp club that features a limited edition stamp set designed by me each month. You can check out past stamp sets (some are still available) here.

Say hello to the stamp set I designed for this month: Wow

Here's a look at the layout I created this month:

I like to use stamps to create background patterns. Sometimes, as was the case here, they become a very subtle texture under the star vellum.

Here's a step by step:

AE_ThankYouForTrying1

1. I used Momento Luxe ink in Pear Tart and the Wow stamp set to create a background. I  added three of the stamps that come with this set to a block and then stamped them over and over again to create a background pattern. I wanted it to not be too dark so I stamped onto another piece of paper first and then stamped onto this backgound cardstock about three times in a row before adding more ink.

2. Cut star vellum to 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches and adhere with just a bit of rolling adhesive to keep it in place.

AE_ThankYouForTrying3

3. Add a 5.5 inch x 8.5 inch piece of white cardstock to the top.

AE_ThankYouForTrying4

4. Add a 4x6 photo. I printed mine here at home using an Epson PictureMate printer. I used RadLab to create the color effect.

AE_ThankYouForTrying7

5. Cut "thank you for trying" using green vellum (included in this Lemon Lush vellum pack from Studio Calico) and the Silhouette.

AE_ThankYouForTrying8

6. Run the title through a sewing machine.

7. Add a vellum phrase sticker to the left edge of the photo.

AE_ThankYouForTrying9

8. Use a 1.5 inch circle punch to cut out the "son" circle from this set of journal cards: Family Cards By Paislee Press.

AE_ThankYouForTrying10

9. Stitch around the outer edge with a sewing machine.

10. Add a label sticker.

11. Add three wood grain stars.

11. Use a rolling date stamp to add the date.

AE_ThankYouForTrying11

12. Add journaling to the label sticker.

One of the things I played around with on this layout was creating an animated gif to show the steps of building this page. It's not exactly one step at a time but I thought it might be fun for you to get a peek at the order in which I tend to add things to my layouts.

I love how you repeat things. I've seen the stamped background technique before, and never tried it. Now I'm inspired to just go and do it. Super cool layout! And good for Simon! He's so grown up now!

I especially love the hand-drawn star/heart stamps. I frequently use stamps like that to go around an entire mini-book page or layout. I can imagine them becoming part of my basket of "use-'em-all-the-time" stamps. :-)

I have several of your stamp sets, Ali. I use them frequently and can testify that they are really superior quality!

The gif was fun. Cute idea! I always love how "simple" your layouts are. Clean, creative... It doesn't ever look like you just (excuse the term) barfed embellishments on the page, and just so happen to have a design degree so they are arranged in a nice but meaningless way.

Really nice page - and I liked the gif, too! Quick question - how do you get the same width in different font sizes so they line up perfectly? It looks like you used the same font for your title in 3 different sizes. How did you get them the same width? Thanks!

I just adjust the type size until each word is the same width (and sometimes adjust the spacing between the letters - called kerning). I also use rulers in Illustrator (the program I use to design word art) which helps line it all up.

Your layout is so nice and shows how supportive you are of your kids. That's a neat idea to stamp a layout background. The gif was a cool idea. Awesome new set too. Thank you for a chance to win. Michelle t

What a great page with an awesome saying. How many times should we thank our kids for trying? I get caught up in the day to day and forget how hard it can be for them. Thanks for the reminder to thank them for trying! Thanks for the giveaway also.

I've been on a hiatus from scrapbooking for quite a while now, but I feel the mojo coming back. Including the gif is really neat. I look forward to seeing more of the process "in action". I love this layout.

Anytime that I whittle down my SB supplies, I don't even CONSIDER getting rid of the AE/TT stamps. They're classic and great quality.

In this layout I'm loving the subtle masculine feel with the blue & green, as well as the (you're a) STAR vellum. TFS!
